Introduction
Over the last thirty years or so, there has been a steady movement towards an economy based on services. Because of this, it has become increasingly important for companies to deploy strategies that make effective use of their resources. In the following paper, I will show that HR can no longer be viewed as just another department in the organization, but instead a vital piece that links organizational goals with HR strategy to ensure that there is alignment of the people policies with that of the management objectives.
Recruiting and selection
Recruiting is the activity carried out by organization with the primary purpose of identifying and attracting potential employees. (Raymond) This will be achieved through the development of local and national recruiting plans, employing traditional sourcing strategies and resources as well as developing new, creative recruiting ideas. The Corporate Human Resources Recruiter will play a critical role in ensuring we are hiring the best possible talent. (Saez)
Recruiting staff is a very costly exercise. It is also an essential part of any business and it pays to do it properly. An organization may have all of the latest technology and the best physical resources, but if it does not have the right people it will struggle to achieve the results it desires. For that reason, the recruitment and selection process can become an extremely costly exercise, so it pays dividends to do it properly. When organizations choose the right people for the job, train them well and treat them appropriately, these people not only produce good results but also tend to stay with the organization longer. In such circumstances, the organization’s initial and ongoing investment in them is

Zappos Hrm

...In order to facilitate your learning in this course, a course project that allows you to research various HR functions at an organization of your choice has been developed. You can then practically apply the information you have learned to the chosen environment. The organization you select should be of interest to you. It can be where you are currently employed, or wish to be employed. It can also be something that interests you (for example, coffee drinkers can select Starbucks). This must be an organization that is researchable as you need to gather and analyze a variety of information in order to complete the components of your project. If you select an organization with which you are currently associated, it is important to remember that the various analyses you make during the completion of your project must be based on facts that can be documented rather than your personal opinion as an employee. Each project component requires you to research a different aspect of HRM. In addition to gathering the requisite data from the organization of your choice, you are required to research and employ a minimum of four resources (per assignment) to support the content of each assignment. Examples of acceptable choices include informational interviews, scholarly journals, and white papers from professional organizations such as the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). As you progress through the project and address the different HR issues covered in the class, you...

Project Management Paper

...Project Management According to Kerzner (2009), "A project can be considered to be any series of activities and tasks that have a specific objective to be completed within certain specifications, have a start/end dated, and have funds, human/non-human resources, and are multifunctional.” All projects have a beginning, the embryonic stage and at some point they come to an end which is the death of a project. However before a project can reach the final stage of death there is a life cycle that occurs which will be discussed as the understanding of a project is the focus of this paper. The life cycle of a project undergoes five major phases, and in order for a phase to be reached it must move in a sequential order. The five life cycle phases are conceptual, planning, testing, implementation and project closeout. The initiation phase also referred to as the conception of the project is the first of the five phases. The initiation phase in its most simplistic definition is starting the project. At the start of the project there are key elements that are identified such as the basics of who, what, when, where, and the proposed budget. The scope of work would also be presented at this conceptual phase. The second phase is the planning phase is basically a recap of the first phase but focuses more on the fine details. Those details would include but not limited to project milestones, how the resources will be allocated, the financial plan, how the communication will take place...

...MGT2 Task C.   A Brief Project Closure Report Discussion When all the deliverables, customer requirements and\or goals have been met in a project, in other words, at the closing of a project the Project Manager is responsible for compiling and delivering a Final Project Report, known as a Project Closure Report. A good project closure report will summarize the entire project from the beginning project plan and scope information to the lessons learned from the project. It should also include other information such as the changes to the project scope if there were any, the final project budget reconciliation, and “a recap of the performance metrics taken during the project; the budget and schedule reconciliations will provide the final project metrics”, (Mastering-project-management.com, 2009). The information for the report can be written in document format or compiled in a presentation using some type of software such as Microsoft PowerPoint. It is a good idea to have the written document even if the Project Sponsor has requested a presentation. The Project Closure Report should be submitted or presented to the Project Sponsor for final approval. Another document that would be useful when closing a project would be a Project Closing Review with fewer details of items such as budget information, used to inform the other key stakeholders of the project results and closing. The review should also provide management and the project team with insights gained as...

Risk Management on a Satellite Development Project

...Study 3: Risk Management on a Satellite Development Project Machelle L. Green Prof. N. Lattus Human Resource Project Management August 22, 2013 Importance of Having a Risk Plan Risk management involves performing SWOT analysis of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats relating to details of project planning, financing, construction, operation and transfer (Duff, 2013). The Satellite Development Project developed a risk plan early in the beginning of their project phase. They focused on four core unknowns such as cost, time, scope and resources. If the Development Project had not developed a risk plan that focused closely on avoiding issues with the four core unknowns, there are many risks that could have occur and delayed the project. The first risk involves whether the project has been properly planned, adequately priced and funded (Duff 2013). The cost of a project is an issue that definitely would have developed without the team being preparing for the risk. The cost of carrying out a project is largely dependent on the funding made available to secure the project. The idea of reducing the cost of funding for the project makes the stakeholders happy as well as all involved as it contributes to the success of the project. Time is as important as the plan itself. The Satellite Development Project had a tight time line for production. Often time lines are needed to give each development a chance to produce the final product without...
