Human resource managers have two basic functions which are overseeing department functions and managing employees. Human resource managers should be well trained in compensation and benefits, training and development, employee relations, and recruitment and selection. They are also responsible for motivating employees to give their best and formulating trustworthiness. They report to the human resource director or a C-level human resource executive in large companies. In small companies, some HR managers perform all of the department’s functions or work with an HR assistant. It is important that HR managers have the necessary skills to perform every HR function in the event it is needed. It is required that health care managers are aware of the different federal and state laws that affect the healthcare industry. It is their responsibility to provide the necessary training for all of their employees to understand how severe it would be to violate the laws. Employees should also be taught the differences between civil and criminal laws and the penalties that may be imposed for breaking those laws. There are federal and state laws and policies in place to protect both the healthcare provider and the healthcare consumer. Human resource managers must also discuss ethics in the workplace and develop a code of ethics for all employees to understand and abide by. Such training should be offered on a continual basis. Human resource management plays a very important role in any health care system. Human resource managers are faced with many different types of challenges. These challenges are reviewed and studied in many different ways by the organization to bring out the best solution. Studies have shown that good management techniques have the ability to improve the health of patients.
