Introduction
Tesco is known as an impressive company in the world which is founded by Jack Cohen in 1919. Currently, this British-based international grocery and general merchandising retail group operates 4331 stores across 14 countries (the United Kingdom, Ireland, the U.S., China, India, Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Turkey, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia) , employs 472,000 people, and recently generated $513million in 2012 sales. Furthermore, Tesco is the largest private sector employer in the United Kingdom, and is recognized as the third largest global retailer based on revenue and the second largest measured by profit.

Over the years Tesco has been transformed from a group of market stalls to a world-leading retail group. While it originally specialized in supplying food and drink, it now offers an increasing range of non-food products including clothing and consumer electronics and provides a wide range of services such as, financial services health, telecoms, Internet, and insurance. Besides of it’s stores, Tesco has also dominated in online grocery market with annual sales exceeding $5 billion and Tesco.com is acknowledged as the world’s largest online grocer which providing other things groceries, home retailing, and music downloads. Impressively, Tesco was still performing extremely well with a 15.1% growth in annual sales and a 5.5% growth in profits even amidst the global financial crisis in recent years.

Carrefour is a famous hypermarket chain who selling a wide range of grocery products ranging from frozen goods and fresh products to textiles products, clothes and shoes, as well as electrical goods such as home kitchen items, furniture and audio. Besides, Carrefour is considered as a convenient store in most of the countries. It provides daily goods for housewives and students. Carrefour is a French international retailer who is the largest hypermarket chains and the second largest retail group in the world. Besides, Carrefour is the third largest in profit after Wal-mart and Tesco ( scribd. n.d). The total revenue of Carrefour in year 2011 is approximate 82,764 millions of euros (Ecobook.eu, n.d). Carrefour is a multinational company with a presence in 34 countries and it generates more than 55% of the sales from outside France. Carrefour retail store operates mainly in Europe, Argentina, Brazil, China, Dominican Republic, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, and also has some stores in North Africa and Asia. Currently, Carrefour Malaysia has more than 4,000 employees in nationwide, and an average of 250 workers per stores. One of the objectives of Carrefour is to provide high quality product to the customer at lower and reasonable prices. Other than marking profit, Carrefour also emphasizes on corporate social responsibility. They always make sure that their business operation consistent with its corporate values in nurturing a Positive, Caring and Committed company.
For this assignment, we select Tesco and Carrefour as both of them are the leaders in the retail market. We are going to analyze some of the contemporary organizational behavior issues and the problems regarding organizational structure and change, motivation and job satisfaction, workforce diversity, and opportunities and challenges.
