MGT210 Group Presentation: 1. What are the most common sources of work/family conflict? How do they specifically impact the employee? How do they specifically impact the firm? Work from home option. As the title points out that employee can have a full-time salary but work at home. This new form of work organization is neither necessarily corrosive of character, nor does it provide individual with unlimited opportunity to shape the work process beyond organizational control. From the graphic we can easily know that work from home options are Increasingly popular; has Powerful hardware support; and Relates to all occupation Time is a central factor in shaping the experience of work. Work time and life time used to be clearly separated. While in modern days, technological innovations, together with changing managerial strategies, create new opportunities to relocate parts of the production process into culturally different spheres, including that of ‘home’. Impact on the employees Positive: The individual is said to benefit by increased autonomy, balancing work and life, and saving in cost and time in commuting.
The biggest advantage of working from home is that you have the ability to create your working environment. Another benefit of working from home is that you save a lot of time commuting back and forth to work. You can spend extra time with your children or spouse, read the newspaper instead of sitting in traffic. Place, therefore, becomes less significant as an external referent. Individuals are seen as knowing human agents, who are continuously engaged in working at their self-identity. Negative: Solitary confinement; Technical issue; Low discipline;24 Hour job!
Work at from is like solitary confinement, people crave interactions and sometimes video conferences and phone calls won’t satisfy this need. Even though you can get in touch with your office, you no longer have the constant support of your colleagues and supervisors. Tech-issue such like computer cuts out and you can’t get the same level of support as you were in the office. Can we have the same discipline as we were in office, we may spend more time on surfing the Internet and hard to focus on work content. When you work from home your work day never ends. Since it starts and stops in the same place you may find yourself working later into the evening not realizing what time it is. Impact on the firm: Positive: The employment organization benefits in terms of reduced estate costs, increases in efficiency, creating and maintaining good morale among the workforce. Negative: -low motivation for career growth.-Slow feedback.-Without Social network.
Being around intelligent people might motivate you. A competitive environment might encourage you to perform better, helping you to excel in your field and ultimately your place in the company. If you have questions in work, you can have immediate feedback from your colleagues without those digital products, see them face to face, use an actual whiteboard. Having a social life is very important and for many their coworkers are their social network. Having lunch with your coworkers, catching up with one another, going out for happy hour, these are all positive and rewarding activities.
