Husband Kimmel was the United States Commander in Chief of the Pacific fleet. He was born February 26, 1882, in the state of Kentucky. Kimmel was blamed for the attack on Pearl Harbor along with his fellow Army leader General Walter Short. These to were accused of being unprepared for this attack. Kimmel proved himself worthy of his position as commander in chief of the pacific fleet after driving multiple battle ships in winning wars. He is graduated from the Naval Academy and became part of the Navy. On December 7, 1941, Kimmel allowed the Japanese to attack Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He never took the blame for it always pushing it off to Roosevelt or Short. In doing so, he needs to keep in mind the leadership trait of “remember: your organization …show more content…
There was a number of times where people had told him and Short to prepare and they had expected nothing to happen. They believed they were not the first priority for the Japanese. They were very bad leaders because they were unprepared for this attack. Kimmel thought he was doing the right thing but he wasn't listening to anyone nor did he look at the facts. This causes him to violate a leadership trait. “When making a decision, understand the facts, consider various solutions and their consequences, make sure that the decision is consistent with your objectives, and effectively communicate your judgment.” He still does not show this leadership trait because he had been provided with facts, and he understood the consequence if there was an attack, but he still decided against preparation. He chose not to effectively communicate and thought he and Short would be right. This shows that he was not a good leader because he didn't communicate properly. He also didn't take anyone else's input and didn't care what they told him. He thought he knew right even though a countless number of people told him he was wrong and he brought shame to himself and our country. Him thinking he was right caused one of the biggest up roars in our country and we allowed a terrible attack to take place. Kimmel needs to be smarter when making decisions and make sure he understands everything about the

The Gender Trap

...Kia Villarreal “The Gender Trap” Book Review California State University, Bakersfield Kristen Gibson October 14, 2015 Gender issues have recently hit the surface pretty hard and has made life changing impacts, nationally. Some political topics have been on same-sex marriage and restrooms for transgendered students. The nation is divided in regards to gender issues. The recent awareness has forced the government to step in and back up laws that are for and against these issues. Analyzing our lives on a daily basis seems easy, but after reading The Gender Trap: Parents and Pitfalls of Raising Boys and Girls by Emily Kane, I didn't realize how much I actually gender my children and how it could affect them in the future. Interviews are not easy to get. I believe Kane did a great job with the participants she had. Kane argued that parents are the ones who construct their children and although their parenting is safe they have the ability to stay away from the pitfall of the gender trap. The bigger picture? It can demolish a lifelong practice that gender injustice takes on. The strong notion is assuming because your child is a female she will recognize herself as a girl, or if it is a male he will recognize himself as a boy and if he or she doesn't, some parents feel disappointed as Haley's dad did from one of the YouTube video's in one of the lectures. He felt that he left his “son” down and was disappointed in himself because Haley did not recognize herself as a boy...

...the context of contributions within this special issue but also more broadly within the field of gender and entrepreneurship research. Design/methodology/approach – The authors adopt a feminist perspective and analyse the different framings of identity within gender and entrepreneurship literature and their contributions to our understandings of the concepts of both power and gendered identities. Findings – The paper finds that power and identity are configured in different contexts in ways that open arenas for future analysis. Originality/value – The paper highlights the importance of considering masculinities within gender and entrepreneurship research offering support for further analyses of entrepreneurial masculinities by examining two studies that expose entrepreneurial masculinities as shifting subjectivities influenced by men’s social power, but also by interactions between men and women and broader cultural contexts and transitions. In so doing, it contributes to the research agenda in relation to gender and entrepreneurship in different contexts. Explain How Theories of Masculinity Have Transformed the Sociology of the Family?

...has changed and shifted roles in past decades. Before going into detail about masculinity and how it has changed by looking at theories of fatherhood, work, and unemployment and Hegemonic masculinity. Finally I will finish by looking at the main advantages and disadvantages of this change in masculinity in recent decades looking also at how it has changed the sociology of family. When looking at the sociology of family we see that it is an extremely broad field of study and can really be split into four main theories of which to look at the sociology of family, these being: 1. “Functionalist theory: Looks at the essential tasks provided by the family e.g. Socialisation: Regulation of sexual activity. Social placement: Material and emotional security. 2. Marxist theory: focuses on the way in which the family perpetuates and enables the continuity of the capitalist system and inequality. 3. Feminist theory: Emphasises gender inequalities in the family, such as, unequal division of power between husband and wife, domestic violence and sexual abuse. 4. Postmodern theories: Emphasise the plurality of family forms in...

Gendered Museums

...women’s movement has largely bypassed museums’ (Glaser & Zeneton 1994). Even with noticeable changes to gender perspectives in Western society, women have much to remodel in a museological world that is still dipped in a long-established and well-governed androcentrism. Museums are extraordinarily powerful institutions across the globe today. They present the past and present in ways that rule entire schools of thought, dictate truth and notions of common sense, and shape the ways in which people perceive and interpret meaning through culture and history. In assessing the status of modern museum culture, it is important to understand the politics by which an institution runs and governs itself. This issue is often overlooked in museum studies; historically museums have acted at their own discretion without much, if any, cultural, political, or social supervision; thus, despite a reputation for being objective, museums are themselves very subjective inventions of modern civilisation (Hooper-Greenhill 1992:3). Upon personal or organisational taste, certain objects are represented and interpreted, revealing what a widely respected educational machine values as important and true. It is through feminist critique of the museum that we see, like most structures in society, the museum is a...

Disciplining the Body

...ARTICLES Sociology o Sport Journal, 1998, 15, 1-20 f O 1998 Human Kinetics Publishers, Inc. "Disciplining the Body": HIV-Positive Male Athletes, Media Surveillance, and the Policing of Sexuality Shari Lee Dworkin and Faye Linda Wachs University of Southern California This paper analyzes how mainstream print media polices sexuality through framings of HIV-positive male athletes. We analyze the HN-positive announcements of Magic Johnson, Greg Louganis, and Tommy Morrison. Specifically, we discuss differences between the framing of gay men (Louganis) and self-identifiedheterosexual men (Johnson and Morrison). First, there is an extensive search for the ways Magic Johnson and Tommy Morrison contracted HIVIAIDS. Media coverage emphasizes that "straights can get it too" through promiscuity and a "fast lane" lifestyle. Consistent with the historically automatic conflation of HIVIAIDS with gay identity, the media pose no inquiries into the cause of Louganis' HIV transmission. We close our discussion by focusing on the meaning of extending the signifier of HIVIAIDS beyond gay bodies to include working class and black male bodies. Media surveillance of sexual identity and the body reinforces hegemonic masculinity in sport while feeding into the current sexual hierarchy in U.S. culture. Consumer Behaviour and Target Audience Decisions

...C H A PTE R CONSUMER BEHAVIOUR AND TARGET AUDIENCE DECISIONS 3 Chapter Objectives • To understand the consumer decision-making process and how it varies for different types of purchases. • To understand various internal psychological processes, their influence on consumer decision making, and implications for advertising and promotion. • To understand the similarities and differences of target market and target audience. • To understand the various options for making a target audience decision for marketing communication. Marketers Seeking 50-Plus Consumers Nintendo is famous for its video games. DaimlerChrysler features a wide selection of car brands. Tabi is known for its classic women’s clothing. While seemingly unrelated, these brands have recently shared a similar strategy. As these established companies expanded beyond their current customer base, each brand attempted new marketing communication programs containing a more emotional message aimed at the 50-plus demographic. The 50-plus crowd not only is a sizable market, but also is a very lucrative one; they control 55 percent of all discretionary spending in Canada due to their relatively high net worth. And while the brands all looked toward the fifty-plus market, additional segmentation based on an understanding of consumer behaviour revealed subtle differences in their approach. For Nintendo, the saturated youth market proved to be a no-growth avenue. With industry sales hitting the billion-dollar level...

...IGOROTS * Home * IGOROT SONGS * IGOROT DANCE * IGOROT TRADITIONS * MONEY ON THE MOUNTAIN IGOROT TRADITIONS IGOROT TRADITIONS When we talk about Igorot identity and culture, we also have to consider the time. My point is that: what I am going to share in this article concerning the Igorot culture might not be the same practiced by the Igorots of today. It has made variations by the passing of time, which is also normally happening to many other cultures, but the main core of respect and reverence to ancestors and to those who had just passed is still there. The Igorot culture that I like to share is about our practices and beliefs during the "time of Death". Death is part of the cycle of life. Igorots practice this part of life cycle with a great meaning and importance. Before the advent of Christianity in the Igorotlandia, the Igorots or the people of the Cordilleran region in the Philippines were animist or pagans. Our reverence or the importance of giving honor to our ancestors is a part of our daily activities. We consider our ancestors still to be with us, only that they exist in another world or dimension. Whenever we have some special feasts (e.g., occasions during death, wedding, family gathering, etc.), when we undertake something special (like going somewhere to look for a job or during thanksgiving), we perform some special offer. We call this "Menpalti/ Menkanyaw", an act of butchering and offering animals. During these times we call them...
