The Lombard location was the first Hyatt Place-branded hotel to open following Global Hyatt Corporation’s recent acquisition of AmeriSuites, an upscale chain of all-suite business-class hotels, from affiliates of the Blackstone Group hotel chain. The hotel corporation was scheduled to open more than 140 additional Hyatt Place hotels that year and the next in the United States as many AmeriSuites properties continued to undergo renovation and repositioning under Hyatt’s newest selectservice brand. After acquiring AmeriSuites and rebranding it, the leadership of Global Hyatt Corporation was also thinking about the internationalization of new brands. “Growth potential in the upscale limited service category is significant both in the U.S. and internationally. ...MAJESTICA HOTEL IN SHANGHAI? On March 20, 2005, Richard Roy, executive vicepresident of Majestica Hotels Inc., was in China, for negotiations with Commercial Properties of Shanghai Limited (CPS). They were discussing a possible management contract under which Majestica would be the operator of a new luxury hotel there owned by Shanghai Industrial Holdings. Majestica Hotels Inc. was one of the world’s leading operators of luxury hotels. The expansion into mainland China had been on management’s agenda since 1999. The opportunity emerged in late 2003 when a close friend of Majestica’s chief executive officer (CEO) revealed that CPS was looking for an operator for its new luxury hotel under construction in Shanghai. Majestica immediately sent representatives to Shanghai to explore the possibility of becoming the operator. Majestica’s proposal was welcomed by CPS, and a letter of intent was signed on August 20, 2004. However, in discussions regarding the management contract, the two parties had reached a deadlock. The key issues to be resolved were the contract term, and the responsibilities and rights of Majestica as the operator, and CPS as the owner, of the hotel. This Shanghai deal was important for Majestica’s global expansion. It would not only provide Majestica with the opportunity to enter the China market but could also set a precedent for Majestica’s future expansion in other emerging markets. MAJESTICA HOTELS INC. Majestica was founded in 1970 in Western...

Economies of Scope: as product scope I selected the cross selling Product Scope: I realized that most of the Hyatt Park hotels have Spa, so they aren’t just focus on selling the room but also the spa in order to get more money. Because as we seen today its most of the times is better to have two products together than two separately in order to reduce costs and increase the profit. Market Scope: As most of the Hotels around the world are doing there are more than one price even for the same room, we have the seasonality issue than the rack rate corporative rate travel agencies rate, internet rate and partners as booking.com rate. ...INTERNATIONAL MARKETING INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT VIPP Vipp is a Danish company producing high-end and high quality products, from dust bins and toilet brushes to whole kitchen sets. The Vipp story begins with Holger Nielsen's metal factory, where in the 1940's he created their most iconic product, which is now famous all around the globe: the Vipp pedal bin. He created it for his wife's hairdresser's salon, who needed a functional and sturdy bin. Later, dentist's offices and clinics adopted this pedal bin on account of its design and practicality. However, the conmpany Vipp was established after Holger's death in 1992, when his daughter Jette Egelund with her two childern Kasper and decided to start selling the bins not only to professional market, but to the public as well. Until present day, the company has expanded their product line from pedal bins only to wide array of bathroom and kitchen products ranging from espresso cups, laundry baskets, mirrors to towels and toilet brushes. Holger's philosophy can be summed up in one sentence: “Good design never goes out of fashion”. Vipp still continues to design and manufacture products based on the design of the first pedal bin, inspired by the 1950's and 1960's. Their product lines are currently offered to individuals who seek everyday products of supreme quality and classic design and are willing to pay the high-end price for them, to illustrate; their prices for the smallest pedal bins start at around 1600 DK (about 215€)...

...MGMT530 – Conference Decision Week 1 Case Analysis Template Katrina Johnson Management 530 Managerial Decision-Making 1) Define the decision problem? This case is about an Accounting System User’s Conference that was to be held in New Orleans, LA. However, due to Hurricane Katrina, the hotel is no longer able to accommodate the conference. Management must decide whether to move the conference to a different venue or change the dates to a later time, giving registrants’ limited notice. 2) What is the general nature of the problem? Competition for participants to take part in this conference is critical for customer retention, product development and product enhancements. Due to the magnitude of the destruction left in the wake of the hurricane, there is a strong likelihood that the conference will not be held. In addition, switching locations could possibly result in a loss of customers and the reputation of the hotel. 3) What event triggered the situation? Although Hurricane Katrina was the root cause of the dilemma, a natural disaster is a foreseeable event. Management should have had a backup plan in place, therefore the triggering event in my opinion is the lack of preparation on behalf of management, conference organizers, and hotel management. 4) What are the imposed constraints on the situation? As stated in the case, all attendees have prepaid their registration fees. They have to decide whether they want to still attend the...

...Fear and Loathing at the Super Bowl, 1973, PG 607 This article was written by Hunter S. Thompson in January of 1973 about this event that took place in Houston, Texas. Hyatt Regency Hotel is where Thompson stayed. Unlike some other bard, Hyatt Regency’s bar closed at 2a.m. Drunks, hookers, gamblers, and more crowded together in the lobby. He hadn’t planned to be there at all. He doesn’t know what made him want to preach a sermon from the Book of Revelations on Super Sunday. For thirty minutes, he spent his time saying how criminals should be thrown into the lake of fire. The people didn’t have much of a reaction, except for sleepiness and boredom. While sitting alone, he felt something heavy going up his back. His first thought was a huge leech. He felt it was a sign to deliver the sermon and to write his lead for the Super Bowl story before anything happened to him. In online research, I found that Hunter S. Thompson started his journalism career after he served for the air force. He was a very good known writer and he covered more ground in four paragraphs then most writers could in many books and he penned what many people call “Gonzo Journalism.” Thompson had some health problems and at the age of 67 he committed suicide. Honestly, I only understood some of the article. Thompson must have been a great writer. When I was looking up information on Thompson, I was hoping to find out more about him talking about the sermon, but I couldn’t find anything. If someone was preaching...

...Ethical Dilemma in the Park Hyatt The Park Hyatt Hotel has been going through a lot of ethical dilemmas for the past two years with their union workers. The hotel workers are organized by the national Union Here labor union, which most hotel workers are part of. (i.e. Hilton, Intercontinental, and Starwood) But the Hyatt workers have gone on strike in this past month, because of the outsourcing practices and working conditions that the workers go through. The workers claim that they are being treated unfairly and with excessive amounts of workloads. The Union Here and Hyatt have been at a two-year discussion about the contract that the workers are under. But the workers are saying they do not care about the wages at all but the working conditions that are being upheld. With how management has not done anything about the situation is unethical behavior, because your workers are the ones that are making your customers satisfied about staying at the Hyatt. Which the Hyatt has been rated top 5 hotels to stay in the nation. But the union has said that the hotel has the worst record among national hotel chains when it comes to working conditions. The housekeepers at the Hyatt are saying that there workload is too much to handle in one day, and want to see a change with how many rooms to clean in a day. The union should fix the rules and regulations on the workers if it came to the point of all the workers picketing about how they are being treated. With my own experience...
