The poetic devices we used in our children’s story, Fergus Builds a Sandcastle are hyperbole, repetition, and alliteration. We used the device, hyperbole when we explained that the castle was so big that they could not reach the top to put on the flag. This is an example of hyperbole because they would be unable to make the castle that high if we were not exaggerating. Hyperbole is a very effective literary device because it makes the story humourous, yet still somewhat believable and also provides a problem in the story when they are unable to reach the top of the sandcastle.
