...William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet - Haste In the play, Romeo and Juliet, everything happens very quickly, this is why one of the main themes in Romeo and Juliet is haste. As a result of haste, Romeo and Juliet wind up married and dead within the course of five days. Throughout this play, three characters stand out when it comes to haste; Capulet, Juliet, and of course Romeo. Once Capulet decides that he wants Paris and Juliet to be married, he tries to move things along very quickly. At first, Capulet wants Paris to wait two years before he marries Juliet because she is so young. “My child is yet a stranger in the world, / She hath not seen the change of fourteen years; / Let two more summers wither in their pride, / Ere we may think her ripe to be a bride” (Shakespeare, 1.2.8-11). Capulet then changes his mind but is furious when Juliet does not want to marry Paris. “Is she not proud? doth she not count her blest, / Unworthy as she is, that we have wrought / So worthy a gentleman to be her bride?” (3.5.143-145), “Hang thee, young baggage, disobedient wretch! / I tell thee what: get thee to church a’Thursday, / Or never after look me in the face” (3.5.160-162). Although Juliet does not agree to marry Paris, Capulet agrees for her and makes the wedding date Thursday. Capulet is so anxious for this marriage to happen, that when Juliet finally agrees, he changes the date to Wednesday. Capulet is very quick to make this wedding happen as a result of haste. Due...

...Friar Lawrence knew that Romeo and Juliet’s relationship was bad all along. So if he didn’t stop it shouldn’t he be guilty too? Well, Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story of that ends with the couple suiciding themselves, although, everybody wonders who are guilty for Romeo and Juliet’s death. I think Friar Lawrence is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death because he married them when he knew it was wrong, he could have told the families what was happening, but instead he kept it all secret, his plans were not thoughtful and he ruined everything. One of the non wise choices that the Friar Lawrence did was to marry Romeo and Juliet. ”Go wisely and slowly. Those who rush stumble and fall.”This quote shows us that Friar Lawrence knew that Romeo and Juliet’s relationship was bad all along. Friar knew that Romeo was desperate for love and wanted to rapidly wanted to marry Juliet. ”I love rich Capulet’s daughter. I love her, and she loves me. We’re bound to each other in every possible way, except we need you to marry us. I’ll tell you more later about when and where we met, how we fell in love, and how...

...Shakespeare Essay Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story that includes many heartbreaking events. Capulets and Montagues hate each other and the family feud is turning people against each other, causing many unexpected deaths. When Romeo: a Montague, and Juliet: a Capulet, decide to get married. That will create much tragedy in the near future knowing they will have to hide their marriage. Especially because the Capulets are pressuring Juliet to marry Paris. The family feud is responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Had there not been a family feud, Romeo and Juliet would not need to conceal their love while still wanting to keep their good reputations in the family. Also, Friar Laurence would not have to devise a plan to help the lovers escape. In the end, two young, innocent lovers will die, through not fault of their own. In the beginning of Act I Romeo was in love with Rosaline. Immediately when he saw Juliet he lost...

...“The Power of Love” Many may argue that hate is stronger than love, but love is definitely stronger than hate. First of all, in the play, Romeo & Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, the love for two people can pull anyone together, even if it means death. The two star-crossed lovers’ gruesome families have had an ancient mutiny between each other which has caused the death of their children and many others. Though the two families have strong hatred towards each other, in the end both of families finally understand the true meaning of love and reunite with each other. Finally, love is stronger than hate because Romeo only killed Tybalt because of his strong love for Mercutio and Romeo shows a great amount of passionate love towards Juliet no matter what happens to him. Firstly, love is stronger than hate because Romeo killed Tybalt only for the sake of his dying friend Mercutio who he loved...

...The Story of ROMEO & JULIET Based on the play by William Shakespeare, as told by Bart Marks In the town of Verona lived two families, the Capulets and the Montagues, engaged in a bitter feud. Among the Montagues was Romeo, a hot-blooded lad with an eye for the ladies. One day, Romeo was recounting for his friends his love for Rosaline, a haughty beauty from a well-to-do family. Romeo's friends chided him for his "love of love" but agreed to a plan to attend the feast of the Capulets', a costume party where Rosaline was expected to make an appearance. The disguises would provide Romeo and his friends a bit of sport and the opportunity to gaze undetected upon the fair Rosaline. Once there, however, Romeo's eyes fell upon Juliet, and he thought of Rosaline no more. Asking around to learn the identity of Juliet, Romeo's voice is recognized by Tybalt, a member of the Capulet clan. Tybalt calls for his sword, but the elder Capulet intervenes, insisting that no blood be shed in his home. So Romeo is tolerated long enough to find an opportunity to speak to Juliet alone, still unaware of her identity. He begs for an opportunity to kiss her hand. She relents. He presses his case, desiring her lips. She has no breath to stop him. Interrupted by the girl's nurse, Romeo learns the name of his heart's desire: Juliet Capulet. The vision of Juliet now invades his every thought. Unable to sleep, Romeo returns late that night to the bedroom window of his love, hiding in the bushes...

...Many people are often accountable for all kinds of outcomes. “Romeo and Juliet,” by William Shakespeare, is a darkened romantic tragedy faced by two star-crossed lovers, in which guilt is drawn from each characteristic of the play. While many reasons exist for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, such as fate, certain characters play a key role in their disappointment in love. The characters that are most to blame, for many obvious reasons, are the Capulets, the Nurse and the guiltiest of all, Tybalt, for the unfortunate deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Firstly, the Capulets are partly responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet’s death. As Juliet had developed love for Romeo, she refuses to marry Paris. After hearing this, Capulet...

...The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet speak as indirect characterization to provide a better understanding of characters. By using many examples of juxtaposition, Shakespeare adds complexity to each character. Romeo’s confusion about love makes him a complex character. In response to a one way love affair, Romeo is left questioning love: “This love feel I, that feel no love in this” (1.1.175). Romeo does not understand the true meaning of love, yet he wonders why he cannot be loved. Romeo often mistakes beauty for love which leaves confusion. Romeo is caught up in Juliet’s beauty before she even opens her mouth. Romeo’s perspective...

...Romeo and Juliet Essay (Character Analysis) Have you ever wondered why Romeo and Juliet ended it like they did? Romeo and Juliet each killed themselves over sadness of not being able to live with each other. Maybe it was irrational or immature, but that’s not what I blame for their deaths. I blame the feud between both families to be the cause of Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. If Juliet’s family hadn’t continued the feud this wouldn’t have happened. If Lord Capulet had given Romeo a chance to be with Juliet rather than dismissing the idea right away or instead of automatically giving her to Paris Juliet wouldn’t have died. Also, if Juliet’s cousin hadn’t attacked Romeo and Mercutio, Romeo wouldn’t have been pushed to kill him and by doing so get banished. For instance, Romeo refused to fight Juliet’s cousin, but he did not care, he kept attacking Romeo and even stabbed Mercutio for stepping in at Romeo’s defense. Finally, if Lady Capulet had given Juliet more choices outside of the Capulets family and friends then she wouldn’t have been driven to faking her own death....

...Nicholas Aleixo Ms. Ritchie ENG 1D1-01 April 23 2010 Family Ties where Love Never Dies Young love has often been ridiculed and often seen as vain or “puppy love” but no story demonstrates how strong these feelings can be better than Romeo and Juliet. Mohandas Gandhi once said “Hatred always kills, love never dies”. This quote accurately demonstrates itself within the story of Romeo and Juliet, because between the hatred of the Montague’s and the Capulet’s Romeo’s and Juliet’s love dose not sever. This is best shown when Romeo finds out that Juliet is a Capulet but does not lose his love for her. This love has also been seen in this story when Romeo and Juliet get married. Lastly this love is demonstrated when Romeo and Juliet commit suicide. When Romeo finds out that Juliet is a Capulet at the Capulet ball he becomes torn between his obligations to his family and his love for Juliet. “Is she a Capulet? O dear account! My life is my foe’s debt” (1.5.117). Romeo says this to the Nurse after she tells Romeo that Juliet is a Capulet. This quote shows that Romeo loves Juliet even though she is his family’s enemy. When Juliet says, “My only love sprung from my only hate too early seen unknown and known too late prodigious birth of love it is to me that I must love a loathed enemy” (1.5.137-140) it shows that she feels the same way about him. But not every Capulet at the ball was in love with Romeo, “This, by his voice, should be a Montague. Fetch me my rapier, boy. What dares...

...Within the tragic story of Romeo and Juliet, we see two houses both emanating hate for one another. Multiple events arose along with every different possible outcome and within these situations, had Romeo chose to act differently and thought more rationally than impulsively, perhaps his seed of love with Juliet could’ve blossomed into a magnificent flower. If Romeo has chosen to realize that time is the only barrier to love, not to spite the Capulets, and to have truly understood Juliet’s heart, this tragedy may have averted. Different events and contributions led to the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, yet some factors stand out better than the others like a beacon in the midst of the dark night. Romeo may have been a Montague, but he did not hate nor despise the Capulet. He proposed marriage upon their second meeting disregarding their parental relationship. He spent less than 3 nights with Juliet and has not yet acquired the knowledge of Juliet’s thoughts. He acted irrationally choosing marriage despite the conflict revolving around the two houses, the Capulets and the Montagues. With this in mind, he should have known that any form of involvement...

...5/6 March 2012 Capulet Everyone loves a good play. Plays captivate the emotions of their audience when the audience connects with a character. William Shakespeare knew human nature and used that knowledge in his writings. One of Shakespeare’s most famous plays is Romeo and Juliet, a tragic story of two minors who fall in love in the midst of their families’ rivalry. In this story, one of Shakespeare’s characters is Capulet who plays the important role of Juliet’s father. Capulet is a dynamic character in Romeo and Juliet. Capulet is dynamic because he loves his daughter, is a good host and is easily angered. In the second scene of the first act, Capulet demonstrates his love for his daughter Juliet. Paris asks for her hand in marriage, but Capulet refuses to allow her to marry at age thirteen and tells Paris to “Let two more summers wither in their pride/ Ere we may think her ripe to be a bride” (I, ii, 10-11). When Paris protests that girls thirteen-years-old are already mothers, Capulet replies that “…too soon marred are those so early made” (I, ii, 13). He worries that she will die in childbirth at such a young age. Juliet is Capulet’s only living child and his hope for the future. Another positive trait is Capulet is a cordial party host. Capulet greets all his guests with a warm welcome in scene five. He keeps his guests loose and comfortable. “Ladies that have their toes/ Unplagued with corns will walk a bout (dance) with you” (I, v, 15-16), Capulet teases his female...

...Romeo and Juliet In the play Romeo and Juliet the tragic demise of the main character is ultimately caused by Romeo. Romeos role in the play it to come across as a foolish youth whose heart was heavy with love for Rosaline, as she has sworn to die a virgin. In his despair he has turned to Juliet a beautiful young lady who is his enemy’s daughter not out of love but out of lust as he fell in love with her as soon as they meet without any knowledge of Juliet who she is as a person nor how she will think of him when she finds out that he is the enemies son. Romeo has decided to ask her hand in marriage without the blessing of their family’s they decided to do the wedding secretly. I believe Romeo is to blame as he has let his heart fall foolishly in love with Rosaline. Romeo has fell to deeply for Rosaline, which has caused him to feel depressed. (“It is sad that cupid, blind s he is, can still shoot his arrow into my heart and make me a slave to it … what appears to be good is not! What is light is heavy, smoke is bright, fire cold and health, sick! Asleep but awake- is this what it is so much love but I receive none” pg. 53 lines 160- 170)by feeling like this he has caused himself to be an easy target for lust not love. As soon as Romeo saw Juliet he started to comment on her beauty, (“what lady is that who makes beautiful the hand of the knights over there”. Pg. 56 line 40).(“ oh her beauty is brighter than the torches! She stands against the night like a rare jewel in...

...decisions in their lifetime. In the play Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, almost every character makes a rash decision - from the star-crossed lovers getting married immediately after meeting, to Tybalt kills Mercutio, and Romeo killing himself when he thinks Juliet is dead. Juliet Capulet is a beautiful, kind person that is always wondering about how the world works or how to get out of something cleverly. She too makes rash decisions, but she is the one character to really think about choosing carefully throughout the play. The readers are able to see that Juliet is a very thoughtful, logical character through a convincing instinct Juliet has, the balcony scene monologue, and her soliloquy before taking the vile. Every teenager tries to influence their parents. Juliet tries to influence them by...

...The characters to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s death are themselves, along with Friar Lawrence. Romeo and Juliet are both to blame because of their impatient attitude and quick decision making, along with their adolescence. I believe that several characters are to blame for other than Romeo and Juliet, but if I had to choose, it would be Friar Lawrence. His encouragement towards Romeo and Juliet being together was a huge impact on how the story turned out. In my opinion, Friar Lawrence is most to blame for the death of Romeo and Juliet. From the beginning of the play, Friar was the one to agree to marry the two of them. Friar should’ve been the practical one, knowing that it was a bad idea to have Romeo and Juliet together, but instead he...
