...Book review of I am number Four The book I have been reading is I am number Four by Pittacus Lore. In I am number Four we are following the story about a young man named John Smith. I know, his name is very normal but you will understand later why he is called that. The truth is that John isn’t human – he is an alien from the planet Lorien. Ten years ago he and other eight children where fled from the planet Lorien and landed on Earth. They fled because there was another alien race, called The Mogadarians, who took over their planet and destroyed everything. These nine children are known as Legacies and as they grow into adults they acquire the same special powers as their parents were gifted with. These powers are the only thing that can stop The Mogadarians. Together with his guardian, Henri, John is traveling through America to escape facing with The Mogadarians. They can’t stay in one place for too long because then it would get easier for The Mogadarians to find them. The Mogadarians must kill every one of the nine Legacy children in order. And now they have already killed Number One, Number Two and Number Three. John is Number Four. Pittacus Lore, the author, words are very easy to understand. So for me, who speaks Swedish, had no problem understanding what it stood in the text. He also wrote very modern, no difficult words that you had to look in a dictionary. It was written as a teenage book should be. But there was something that bothered me with his...

...Over the past month I chose to read the science fiction novel I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore. This book details the life of Four, or John Smith, an alien from the planet Lorien who has fled to Earth with his guardian Henri in an effort to escape the Mogadorians, who are an evil alien race that demolished almost everyone from John’s home planet. It is explained that nine aliens from Lorien were sent with their guardians to Earth for protection, but if they are found by the Mogadorians they must be killed in the order of their numbers. The first scene that is described in the book illustrates the murder of number Three, signaling number Four that he is next. John, or Four, and Henri have to constantly move around to avoid being caught by the Mogadorians so when the find out Three is dead,...

...opinion is deciding who will receive the procured organ. I was given the task of deciding who would receive a liver from a list of four potential recipients in an imaginary scenario. The four patients all have a rare tissue type and it is unlikely that another liver will be available that will match for months or even years. Patient number one is a 65-year-old male with four adult children whose wife depends on him for care of a debilitating illness. His liver was damaged by cirrhosis due to alcoholism. Patient number two is a 35-year-old female who is married with two small children. Her liver damage was caused by a chronic illness. Patient number three is a 21-year-old single male whose liver was damaged by a Tylenol overdose. Patient number four is a 28-year-old female who is married with 5 children under the age of 10. She is an illegal immigrant farm worker whose liver was damaged due to exposure to a chemical that was sprayed on the crops where she works. Very little information was given on each person. The first piece of information that would be a real deciding factor for me that was not mentioned was how compliant each patient would be with medical treatments. Without knowing this, it is very difficult to try to predict outcomes after surgery. So, given the little information that I have, here is how I came up with my decision. I decided to eliminate patient number one right off the bat. I realize that...

...shipping document number: RA213865 The Megablitz Drill that was arranged to be shipped to me on Tuesday September 17, 2013, through your airlines to the above address did not arrive, and was sent on the wrong flight. Consequently I am requesting reimbursement of the extra expenses I incurred due to the fact drill I ordered needed to be rented in my city. I am a supervisor with Multiple Development Industries Inc. I am supervising the installation of environmental equipment at a new office here in Thunder. This large project required the Megablitz 400 drill, in which I needed your services to fly this drill from Chicago to Thunder Bay. The Megablitz 400 drill was supposed to be shipped to me in Thunder Bay on last Tuesday on the 6:15 am flight. My company rented the drill to me and was to be used round-the-clock for 48 hours and the returned on Friday morning. (MDI rental number; MDI 3546) After a four-hour delay I found out that it had been shipped to Seoul, South Korea, and would not arrive until Friday. The Multiple Development Industries Inc. (MDI) in Chicago sent a special five-person drilling crew as well as hired eight other drillers from Thunder Bay for the project, through Morton Installers. The MDI drillers were paid $600 per person each day, and the local drillers $200, $4600 per day for all of them. I now had 13 expensive drillers in Thunder Bay with nothing to do and no drill to do anything with. Considering there was no drill, I would now be paying...

...the first thing I did was to read through it several times to determine what it is asking. My interpretation was that I needed to find the grams of iron in this food and then convert it to milligrams. To do this, the first thing I did was to convert 0.00125% of iron to a decimal by moving the decimal point two places to the right which gave me a decimal of 0.0000125. I then multiplied 0.0000125 by 87.0 grams to find the percent of iron in a serving of food. I plugged 0.0000125 x 87.0 into a calculator and got the answer of 0.0010875 which means...

...twenty-four, and twenty. Three numbers, what do they mean? Well let us humor a few ideas. Fifteen percent of Americans use online dating sites, twenty-four thousand dollars could buy you a new Kia Optima, and twenty percent of people voted against their usual party this election. Pretty interesting facts and I suppose that is what I could be referring to. However, I am sure you know I am not writing to inform the public about EHarmony or Kia’s new interior, and I am certainly not going to attempt to decipher what the hell happened this past election. So, what do these numbers really mean? Well, if you look deep enough, if you just try hard enough, what you might find out the truth behind these numbers and what they tell us about...

..." REFLECTION As I take this time to reflect on my accomplishments during this course, the one area that stands out the most for me is mixed numbers. Through this course I was re-introduced to just how much mixed numbers is a prevalent part of everyday life. Now I take notice of the key areas within my own life that I use mixed numbers, like cooking for my family of four (4); banking transactions and even the time when I am called to be the home handy person. The two (2) concepts that I have struggled with to date are prime numbers and factorizations. Even though I have studied and practiced these concepts regularly, I still struggle with just how to solve the equations. For the most part just when I think I understand, a new twist is presented and I am right back where I started. I am not sure what the barriers are but I will keep working through the challenges. The action step or steps that I would take to overcome my struggles with prime numbers and factorizations are (1) study, (2) practice, and (3) ask for help, (4) study, (5) practice and (6) ask for help. With all of the studying and practicing that I have been doing, I am not sure why I am struggling so much. My biggest fear is that after all of this I will still unsuccessful in my quest to win the battle of mastering these concepts. But before I let this get the best of me, me and my soon to be tutor are going to become the best student and tutor...

...Over the years, FFA members have been criticized for the number of days they are not in a school classroom. Some Staff and non-FFA students believe that we are just skipping school. Contrary to their beliefs, we are learning skills outside of the classroom that will help us later in life. I have missed ten to fifteen days of school because I am involved in agriculture groups. 4-H and FFA have greatly shaped my life. In September, I miss four days of school because I was attending a conference in Wisconsin learning about my role in the dairy industry. In those four days, I had the chance to network with young adults from over twenty-three states and Canada. I do believe I can develop social skills in high school; however, statistics say an individual will cut ties with ninety percent of your high school peers. Also, my social skills would be limited to the individuals in a rural town. By associating at the conference, it is my duty to keep in contact and put forth effort to talk to my fellow delegates....
