...outlet me. I find comfort in writing to getting my feelings and emotions down on paper. Once I get into thought about a topic the words just flow and I maintain a good rhythm. I really enjoy writing, however, critiquing my own writing, as well as correcting can be a struggle for me at times, but I have come a long way from where I first started, when my first semester in college. As I began to look through my grades for my writing in human behavior and the social environment, I found they were pretty good grades. Out of the five assignments that I compared my average grade was an 86. which breaks down to two 90’s and two 83’s and one 84. I am satisfied with these grades and they seem fair. This semester was the first time I have used APA formatting. Using APA format has...

...Motivation Inventory Paper your name PSY/430 November 25, 2013 Robin Goins, Instructor Motivation This paper is a response describing what I have learned about myself pertaining to motivation. I'll describe how this new knowledge affects the way I interact in a group setting. There have been things that I have noticed that I may want to change in the future. Based on my results on my motivation inventory I can make a few changes which we will talk about. While doing this project I have thought about what can or would make me more inclined on doing a better job, or even motivate me to do better in a group. Making changes have been a consideration that I had no thought about until now. Learning About Myself The group that I worked with has been a great group. I thought that this was the best team ever! Until I read their post in our resent paper. This information took me completely by surprise. Why I say this is because I thought that we were all in the right page, and I seen that some thought they were doing the majority of the work. I learned that I tend to not want to take the lead or be in control. I thought about this and came to the conclusion that the reason I have come to being this way. In my line of work you don't get promoted because of what you know, usually its by how many points you have, and who you know. So I have gotten discouraged because of former leaders being in a position that they have little experience with. So basically I chose not to jump into...

...some reason people mistakenly think if something can’t be mastered on the first try, it’s too hard to fool with. But there’s no reason to master macarons on the first try. Unless you just burn the crap out of them, they’re going to taste phenomenal regardless of their flaws. It’s like leaning to ride a bike, except that when you “fail” you get delicious cookies instead of a skinned knee. So relax. Tell yourself it’s okay if they don’t have feet, it’s okay if they crack, it’s okay if they’re hollow. Each time one of those things happen, you have a chance to learn about what went wrong with your technique if you want to learn. If you don’t care about learning, focus on flavor, have fun making a tasty cookie and leave obsessive perfectionism to the professionals. If this is your first time making macarons, read through these posts to familiarize yourself with some common problems and mistakes. ...very paper needs an introduction. In fact, the introduction is the most important part of your paper, because few of your readers will ever read beyond it. And there's not much hope that any of them will if you don't grab their attention from the start. So it's a mystery why so many papers begin with twaddle like this excerpt from a conference on high performance computing. Massively parallel computers (MPCs), characterized by their scalable architectures, are a viable platform on which to solve the so-called grand-challenge problems. These distributed-memory systems are expandable and can achieve a proportional performance increase without changing the basic architecture. In order to take full advantage of scalable hardware, the application software must also be scalable to exploit the increased computing capacity. If you find your thoughts drifting away, don't feel bad; we have evidence that the authors felt the same way - consider the near-meaninglessness of the second sentence. The real weakness, though, is that this extreme form of ``grandmothering'' has no other function than to tell you something you already know, and wouldn't be comprehensible if you didn't already know. The paragraph is entirely superfluous to any reader who knows the meanings of ``scalable'' and ``grand-challenge problems.'' Other readers, who don't know the buzzwords, are discouraged from continuing. Everybody loses. I'm not going to give you the usual advice that you fuss and fret over...

...your age don’t like to read or write. I say don't the authors make reading and writing interesting. Because I think kids would see the fun in reading and writing plus at the time kids would be gaining knowledge and having fun at the same time. First, do you know these kids out here on the street because they dropped out of school as soon as they could because they can’t read or write on the skill level they were supposed to be on. And kids were probably got bullied and teased. The reason they probably didn’t find the fun or interest in reading and writing. People these days that drop out of school always go out on the street and selling dope trying to get paper. And they would get shot, like a policeman did to Michael Newby and got shot coldblooded. Secondly, if kids these days would read and write more they could achieve a goal once in their life. They would be proud and would feel good about themselves knowing they could achieve something in life. And another thing if your parents tell you to read just do it because you’re gaining more knowledge and it’s fulfilling your mind not theirs. And they tell you to read because they love you and want you to live a better life. I know that reading and writing is not fun but the authors could make books that maybe you like sports or music. Or maybe in school whoever makes that writing prompts make them on something you would like to write about. Not all this boring stuff they are doing these days. So why not why don’t we ask...

...I’m a junior in highschool, I still write like a middle schooler. I thought taking English Composition would be difficult for me, and although it wasn’t always easy, the class wasn’t as bad as I expected. English Composition improved my writing craft and the length of my papers. When I first started this class I didn’t have much of an idea on how to create a well-written paper. I’m still not at the level I would like to be, but I have improved. I used to think that every paper written for school had to be formal, and you couldn’t start a sentence with “and” or “but” or with the same word for multiple sentences in a row. From taking this class I have learned that those are types of writer’s craft. Starting the sentence with the same word is an echo effect and it’s used for emphasis. The piece that I believe shows most of my improvement is my analysis. I chose to do this piece on a song called “Scars to Your Beautiful.” I wasn’t sure how to really write an analysis. At first I tried to write about a picture where there was a young girl who seemed to be overwhelmed by school. She was surrounded by books and there was tons of writing and equations on a chalkboard behind her. I had no idea where to even...

...Write a Term Paper or Thesis Michael A. Covington Artificial Intelligence Center The University of Georgia Athens, Georgia 30602 http://www.ai.uga.edu/mc Revised May 11, 2011 Abstract This is a basic style guide for writing scientific papers under my direction. It was written for internal use in the Artificial Intelligence Center. However, other science departments may find it helpful. You are encouraged to share it with colleagues. 1 What is a term paper or thesis? In the Middle Ages, in order to be admitted to a trade guild, a craftsman had to demonstrate his ability by producing a piece of work, called his masterpiece, for examination by the officers of the guild. He was then granted the title of Master of his trade. When universities were founded, they immediately emulated this practice and began to grant the degrees of Master and Doctor to people who had proved their ability to do scholarly work. A thesis or dissertation today serves the same purpose as a medieval craftsman’s masterpiece. It is proof of ability to do a certain kind of work. Specifically: • To get a doctor’s degree, you must become familiar with current scientific knowledge of your subject, add to this knowledge by making an original discovery, and then report the results in a dissertation. 1 • To get a master’s degree, it is sufficient to make a new synthesis or application of knowledge already available, and report the results in a thesis. • To pass certain courses, you must write a term paper, which demonstrates...

...Companies now offer combined services that not only cost less, but offer the convenience of a single bill. Called a Triple Play Package (Cable, Internet, and Phone), these combined service deals can save you a bundle. 2. SLOW DOWN YOUR INTERNET SERVICE. I went to the slower internet service option with my cable company and saved $15 per month. And I haven’t noticed a difference when surfing the Net. 3. CONVERT TO A GAS WATER HEATER. They are more efficient and will save you money in the long run. 4. REFINANCE YOU MORTGAGE. If you can reduce your interest rate by one percent or more, it is often beneficial to refinance. This is particularly true for those with high rates due to less than stellar credit scores. If your score has improved, you may qualify for a better rate. I would start by asking your current mortgage lender about lower rates. 5. GET YOUR BOOKS AND DVDS FROM THE LIBRARY. I love books and read every day. While I buy some of the books I read, most come from the library. Simply put, it’s hard to beat free. Many libraries now have movies on DVD that can be checked out. If your library offers this service, it sure beats paying Blockbuster or Netflix. 6. DON’T PAY INTEREST ON CREDIT CARDS. This is obvious, but I soon as you fail to pay off the credit card in full, the high interest payments start to eat away at your monthly budget. If the temptation to spend more than you can pay on a credit card is to great, get rid of the credit card (and ignore the previous...

...language. I forget about grammatical rules like right syntax, verbs tenses, and some Filipino words that a native Filipino should know. I have studied Filipino language from Philippine Education system before I move to Hawaii. That means, I should have great extent of Filipino language skills but since I have to stop studying it and even practicing it, the Americanization in me has start and lose my mother language. I think its very important for anyone that is Filipino or other ethnic race to know the language of their race because its part of their identity. I remember the quote from Dr. Jose Rizal saying, “Kung sino man hindi lumingon sa pinangalinan ay hindi makararating sa paruronan.” It means, we have to know where we come from because they will help us to go to wherever we are going. This paper talks about how important it is for me to relearn the Filipino language and my experiences through the process. It all starts in my third year at UH Manoa when I have decided to take Filipino 401. The reason why I take the class is to regain what I gradually losing and that is my Filipino language. Before I have taken the class, I stop watching Filipino movies and shows, my friends are all local born that can’t speak Filipino, disconnect myself from Philippine current events, and don’t participate in any Filipino activities. Then, I feel that I’m losing a part of myself, which I really couldn’t care because I think I could live my life without it. Honestly, the real reason why I take...

...my life. I started taking Spanish 1A and 1B just because I needed electives for 7th and 8th grade and didn’t think I could suffer through anything else. I took Spanish 2 because I wanted another year with my favorite teacher. See, I’ve never really minded teachers. I always got along with them just fine. At the same time, I never really felt like I could relate to any of them either. They were friendly and they taught just fine. They just never really tried to level with their students. I feel like because of that, my grades weren’t exactly what they could’ve, should’ve, been. I never saw a reason to do the work. If my teacher didn’t care enough about me to ask why things weren’t getting done, then why should I do them? There was no real reason besides a grade. The motivation just wasn’t high enough to make me care. Then, I started taking a class with Mrs. Davis as my teacher. When I didn’t do the work, she asked why. She cared. She wanted to know me more than the other teachers seemed to. She wanted to see more than just another face in a desk everyday. She wanted that with all her students. She still does. So, I explained things to her. She listened. She paid attention. She remembered and always asked for a follow up. She still does. For the first time since I started school, one of my teachers really seemed to see something other than another face and another grade. I was important. I’d never felt like a teacher found me important. So I started doing the work. I started wanting...

...Purpose: This is a section that kind of combines introduction, motivation, and some background information. In that respect, in this section, I would like to see brief answers to the following questions: - what did you do in the lab (purpose), and - how did you do it? (The effects that rotation has on motion of geophysical fluids (ocean, atmosphere) was investigated through comparison of motions in a stationary tank (no rotation), and a rotating tank (to simulate rotation of the Earth). This tells me what the purpose was (examine effects of rotation), and what was done to study it. - what is it important for? (It is important to study these effects, because understanding the motion of the ocean and atmosphere is imperative to marine science. For example, the ocean currents and environments that depend on them determine the species diversity of a certain area, and knowing those greatly improves our understanding of marine biology.) Try to find a good reason for the lab - for example, studying sediments was important, because knowing our past climates can help us better predict the future and avoid or mitigate consequences of climate change. Or, knowing about sediment transport can help us predict how coastal environments might look in the future, so we are able to predict the kind of...

I can also always have a visual because it may help them understand whats going on if they have trouble reading. Positives there are a few positives in this for example it teaches you how to count because on each page it adds something for example on the first page theres 1 umbrella and on the second page theres 2 goggles then 3 bottles of sun screen and so on. This could be a fun way of learning how to count from 1 to 10 and also improving reading skills at the same time. it was done smartly because he makes the number out of the things he finds as shown in this picture. He finds 4 towels and places them in the shape of the number 4 It also has a small moral about never giving up and always trying our best. Negatives There are a few big words that could be tricky for younger kids to read. However they do have a button you can press and it reads it...

Or did you ever want to kick yourself for putting off that history project your instructor told you about at the beginning of the semester so that you ended up throwing together 15 pages of "garbage" just to get the report in on time? Or how about the time your computer crashed when you were wordprocessing your English paper the night before it was due, and your teacher said that your reason was simply a new version of "the dog ate my paper" excuse and gave you an "F"? If you have done any of the things mentioned on the previous page, you are like most people. We all have the ability to put off until tomorrow the things that we know we should be working on today. It's human nature. Unfortunately, ineffective time management doesn't help us much, in college or outside of college. .............In "Time Management for College Students," we will give you some guidelines to help you better manage your time. On the assumption that people who want help managing their time probably don't HAVE a lot of it, the guidelines will be short and to the point. They aren't "magic pills" that will suddenly make you super efficient and well organized, but if you use them gradually to improve the way you organize you time, you will probably find that your life is a little less stressful and, with any luck, you will have time to do more of the things that you enjoy outside of your college work. If you are a...
