Comprehensive Grammar Answer Form

...that I have attended in the past have all required me to use the APA style of writing. As I recall my high school years, the APA style of writing also seemed to be a favorite amongst my high school teachers. They all required that term papers be written in APA style as well. This type of writing actually does not differ much from the ones included in the text reading. The text mentioned the APA style of writing several times. In my opinion, it appears to be the most popular style of writing, especially amongst college students. Based on the results of the quizzes, my grammar skills were actually a little better than average. I actually had expected to do better, but I guess my grammar skills are not as good as I thought they were. In any event I feel very confident when it comes to spelling, as I have always been a great speller. Even in grade school, I was a good speller. I learned at a very young age to challenge myself when it comes to spelling. Challenging my-self in that area really paid off as I became older, as I’ve never had a problem with spelling. However, I feel that I need more help with run on sentences and with thought patterns. Though I proof read my paper several times, it’s hard for me to see that I have several run on sentences until after I get my grade back. In general, I feel that my writing is just mediocre. However, I also believe that when it comes to writing, I am my own worst critic. Reason being, I am never satisfied with my work. I always...

Personal Narrative: What I Learned In My Writing Class

...This class wasn’t exactly what I expected, I was not ready and misjudged myself. The way I write isn’t any different, in my opinion, besides the fact I think more about what I’m writing if it's good, and having someone proofread it. This class showed me that I am not a writer, and don’t want to be one. I did not grow as much as expected as a writer, I thought I was going to get better with comma splices, but no improvement. I could improve more on my sentence structure, paragraph transitions, word choice, and my ideas could be more organized. I don’t know how I will compensate for this in the future, I honestly don’t. I guess when I have someone check it, to go over it with me on what I’m struggling with. From what I did learn, it would...

Essay's Are the Best or Nah?

...teachers. The fact that most people hate essays have raised the question can this issue be solved? First of all teachers hate grading essays. It’s very time consuming, student papers highly outnumber the teachers. College essays can be long as 100 pages. Grading a 100 page essay for 15-20 students can get extra stressful if you ask me. Not to mention that they actually have a life to live. Rebecca stated in her article that “I’ve graded drafts and assigned rewrites, and that helps the good students get better, but the bad students, the ones I’m trying to help, just fail to turn in any drafts at all. Meanwhile, I come up for air and realize that with all this extra grading, I’m making 75 cents an hour.” I can definitely sympathize with teachers on this issue. To fix this problem I would suggest that the teachers could assign grading assistants (Students that actually like writing and are top of the class) this would allow the teachers more time to live life, tutor and relieve some of the stresses of grading. Although essays are assigned students still are not learning to write factual papers. Looking back at Schuman’s article she quotes that her “friends who actually work in such fields assure me that most of their colleagues are borderline-illiterate.” For example my personal experiences with essays throughout school (high school to college) have been horrible. I have had some A’s but I have also received D’s for papers I thought deserved at least a B-, while I’ve witnessed...

Example of a Cip Paper for Com

...Crystal Peraza CIP Paper Susan Owens Com 110-020 February 1st, 2012 My parents have always told me that even as a little girl I was never shy about speaking my mind or saying hello to perfect strangers. In grocery stores I would announce my doubt at my father’s excuse for not buying my favorite cereal; “What do you mean you have no money?! You have a job!” I suppose you could say I embarrassed him quite a few times. As I’ve gotten older, I’m much more mindful of the things I say and to whom I say them. However, I’m just as outgoing, if not more. I am a “perfect” balance of being shy and putting myself out there. It all depends on the context in which interaction is happening. At work, I meet strangers everyday and I don’t mind making conversation with them as I walk them to a table and talking to them as if I’d known them for years. In a new classroom setting, I don’t generally mind being myself—but the shyness of the people around me makes me feel even more reserved. I’m generally very comfortable talking to new people and absolutely love listening and learning about others. It has always been strange to me that as much as I love talking to people, I’m absolutely terrified of speaking in front of them. I’m typically bubbly and fun and the second the spotlight is on me, I get very quiet and feel terribly awkward. As I go on with the speech, it gets worse because I’m worried that people see me as some shaky freak. One thing that I would hope this class could...

...at parties have read my novels or short stories or feature articles; when they ask, "Have I seen any of your stuff?" I shrug and the conversation moves on. If I want attention for an hour or so, however, I'll tell them my horrible secret — for several years I made much of my freelance income writing term papers. I always wanted to be writer, but was told from an early age that such a dream was futile. After all, nobody ever puts a classified ad in the paper that reads “Writers Wanted.” Then, in the Village Voice, I saw just such an ad. Writers wanted, to write short pieces on business, economics, and literature. It was from a term paper mill, and they ran the ad at the beginning of each semester. Writing model term papers is above-board and perfectly legal. Thanks to the First Amendment, it’s protected speech, right up there with neo-Nazi rallies, tobacco company press releases, and those "9/11 Was An Inside Job" bumper stickers. It's custom-made Cliff Notes. Virtually any subject, almost any length, all levels of education — indulgent parents even buy papers for children too young for credit cards of their own. You name it, I've done it. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the plurality of clients was business administration majors, but both elementary education majors and would-be social workers showed up aplenty. Even the assignments for what in my college days were the obvious gut courses crossed my desk. "Race in The Matrix" was a fashionable subject. The term paper biz is managed...

Time Management Challenges

...the worst I would have to say that I am at a two. For me that means I have no clue what that even means any more now that I have children. I have three children, go to school and work two jobs. Don’t get me wrong I would love to be able to only do one thing at a time but it seems to be impossible with what all I have to deal with and do in a days’ time. With that being said if I ever wanted to do one thing at a time I would have to learn how to do it all over again and get out of the mindset that I need to get everything done and get it done right away. I am willing to try to learn it all over again but chances are I will have to practice when the kids are not home so I do not get distracted. The other thing is I need to not watch tv when I am doing other tasks or even doing homework. This would be the biggest problem for me is always having the tv on where ever I am at. * Switching between tasks takes time even if we are not aware that it does and what our minds are required to do (page 75). It also says in some cases multitasking can be very dangerous (page 76). Chances are you can and will get more done and be safer if you just focus on one task at a time (page 76). It says in the book it would be a very good skill for me to learn if I have small children (page 76) which I do have one small child. She is a one year old. Doing one thing at a time is a good start on working to cut down your stress level (page 77). * When it comes to doing one thing at a time I am not very...

Plagiarism Not Fit for School

...part of an existing problem of academic dishonesty. A third of high school students acknowledge copying from the internet for a paper (Facts & Stats). We live in an age where information is freely available. The internet has made that possible, also making cheating a task that is easily accomplished. People download music and movies the same way they can download a term paper. You can download a song, burn it to a CD, and put it in your car and listen to it without any realistic consequences. So why can’t you borrow a few lines from an article and put them in your paper without acknowledging the source? Turns out a lot of students do this. The same as downloading music, they don’t suffer any realistic consequences. Plagiarism is “the act of using another person's words or ideas without giving credit to that person” (Merriam-Webster). According to this definition, plagiarism extends far beyond just academia or writing. It is also prevalent in TV and radio. One notable case is joke theft. George Lopez, a Mexican-American comedian, confronted fellow comedian Carlos Mencia for stealing his jokes (Joke Theft). The act of joke theft amongst comedians has been around as long as stand up comedy has been popular. TV and radio broadcasters plagiarize every day. They read a story on the air without acknowledging the source. I think this form of plagiarism is actually borderline criminal. They are making a profit off of the information they are plagiarizing without sharing the profits with...

...Taylor By Michael C. Munger Most academics, including administrators, spend much of our time writing. But we aren't as good at it as we should be. I have never understood why our trade values, but rarely teaches, nonfiction writing. In my nearly 30 years at universities, I have seen a lot of very talented people fail because they couldn't, or didn't, write. And some much less talented people (I see one in the mirror every morning) have done OK because they learned how to write. It starts in graduate school. There is a real transformation, approaching an inversion, as people switch from taking courses to writing. Many of the graduate students who were stars in the classroom during the first two years—the people everyone admired and looked up to—suddenly aren't so stellar anymore. And a few of the marginal students—the ones who didn't care that much about pleasing the professors by reading every page of every assignment—are suddenly sending their own papers off to journals, getting published, and transforming themselves into professional scholars. The difference is not complicated. It's writing. Rachel Toor and other writers on these pages have talked about how hard it is to write well, and of course that's true. Fortunately, the standards of writing in most disciplines are so low that you don't need to write well. What I have tried to produce below are 10 tips on scholarly nonfiction writing that might help people write less badly. 1. Writing is an exercise. You get better...

Free Argumentative Essays-The Removal Of Native Americans

...The Removal of the Native Americans Many believe than when the United States passed the Indian removal act, they were actually trying to protect the Native Americans. However, some speculate that they may have just been trying to get them out of the way. The United States government only looks out for their own self interests. When they kicked out the Native Americans, they claimed it was for the good of the Indians even though it was only so they could take their land. The truth is that in 2018 the United States government is still only looking out for its own interests. If the government wants to build a highway through where you house is, they will make you move. Some may argue that the government would be willing to pay high sums for you...

Unit 2

...but at what cost? In my opinion we have sacrificed a lot just to use technology. Technology has made life easier to an extent but at same time it has made some people too dependent on it. Life is only going to get more difficult with technology advancing the way it is. How technology makes life more difficult? With all of our advancement in technology things are getting more simplified to the point of difficulty. For example eBooks they are more difficult to use n read while doing your school work, but at the same time it’s cheaper and more available for students. Another good example of how technology has made things difficult is with the gps systems. The new advancements in gps makes some people think without it they couldn’t go anywhere without getting lost. How much is too much for technology? I got a lot of information from news articles. There are only few you will need to know are gps, and eBook. Gps is a graphical position system used to add a destination and find routes to it or just to know where you currently are. EBooks are the new way most students are having to get the books called an electronic book. There are no other key definitions needed for this paper. I have tried to find someone articles with good rebuttals. But most people seem to agree with my position on this paper that technology does in fact make life more difficult some times. We just keep finding ways to complicate things to try to make it easier so we don’t have to think. There is many ways technology...

Phil201 Response Paper Advice

...Here's what I am looking for (and perhaps more importantly what I don't want to see). First of all, you must follow, thoroughly and exactly, all of the precise directions in the "Response Paper Instructions" document, which can be found under Course Content > Assignment Instructions. There is no substitute for reading and following all of the Instructions there. After you have read that Instructions document, you can move on to consider what I share below. I want you to succeed. The following is to help you avoid some common mistakes and shortcomings I've seen from past students. Note the following dos and don’ts.... 1. DO stick with the outline in the Instructions: you could even turn the five questions into headings (and sub-headings if necessary). DON’T go down rabbit trails. Avoid peripheral issues. I do not want to see a general article on the existence of God, I want to see an article responding precisely to the points that were specified. 2. DO focus on understanding and applying the arguments and concepts in the course materials. DON’T just repeat arguments verbatim from the book. I want you to refer to the book in your answers, however I don’t want you to just copy an argument out of the book and feel like you answered the objection. Explain how this argument from the book answers this particular claim. 3. DO take the article seriously and treat all “sides”...

Compare and Contrast

...and Contrast After the reading the two papers I would defiantly have to say that the second paper is the better of the two. The author stuck to the guidelines of the paper better then the first author in a number of different ways. The author also did a much better job of letting the reader actually understand what was going on in Russia during the time period that was being discussed. The author of the first paper did not follow the format that was set for the paper to being with. In the directions it was clearly stated that the pages needed to be numbered and the author failed to do that. The directions also said too not use to many quotations from the reading and the paper was full of them from beginning to end. Something else about the format I noticed was the the paper required four pages, and it was only four in a half. I don't know how strictly the professor will stand by his/her requirements but the author did not write the required length. The author of the first paper also did not really seem like they were using to many sources. They seemed they took most of their information from a series of short stories written by the same author, whereas on the other hand the author of the second paper took their information from a variety of sources. The author also went much more in depth on the outcome of the new laws and systems the ruling party of Russia put into place, where the first author just talked about the laws. I also like how the second author told us the...

My Dog

...stole my cookie. I made a giant sugar cookie and frosted it and turned around to get milk and I turn around and his front feet are on the counter and he’s running away with my delicious cookie (with a glut of sugar in it. I guess it was good I didn’t get to eat it?) Anyways, I’ve had a productive day. Yesterday (Saturday), after sitting on my floor using my iPod and texting, going on social media, and playing mobile-phone games all day, I realized that - even though I could succumb to sitting on my floor doing nothing (which is a lot easier than doing something way more interesting) – actually doing something productive with my life makes me feel a lot better about myself. Now I like to switch back and forth from different times as I write. Like right now I can hear people playing softball at the school, each one of them vying for their team to win. And the fact that my dog stole my cookie has left me discombobulated and not being able to focus on a single sentence, as I long for that cookie, with its not-so-subtle sugary flavor. I even put blue food coloring on the dough so I could have a blue cookie and nope my dog ate it. Thanks jasper. He steals everything though. We’ve tried everything, but he still steals. He even sole one of those metal sponges! And not only does he steal everything (and I’m not lying, he steals everything), he eats it too! HE ATE A METAL, WIRE SPONGE. HOW DID THAT FEEL GOING DOWN HIS ESOPHOGAS. I BET NOT THAT GOOD. ANYWAYS, I FORGOT TO TURN CAPS...
