...Lucid Dreaming Ayeisa Chavez SPCH 1311 MW 8:30 am Irma Garcia March 6, 2013 Imagine going to bed one night only to wake up in a whole other world where anything your heart and mind desired became reality. Flying over clouds, breathing underwater, going to any part of the world or even getting to be with that person you so much desire wasn’t impossible anymore. Well there is a way that can be done, and that’s through something called lucid dreaming. After listening to this presentation I hope you will have a better understanding of the world of lucid dreaming and how it can be done. I will begin by explaining to you in detail what it is exactly. Then, you will learn a few of the benefits gained by this experience and some dangers. Last, I will give you a few simple steps to how it can be done. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it? I know I was! As explained in an article by Rebecca Turner, Lucid dreaming is the proven ability to become aware while you’re dreaming, to consciously “wake up” inside the dream world and control your dreams. In other words, it’s being able to do as you please while you dream. Marshall Brain researched that when you sleep, your brain goes through several stages of a sleep cycle. The cycle that deals with dreams is REM or rapid eye movement which takes up 20 to 25% of sleep and your brain is basically shut off during this period of time. Your body becomes paralyzed except for the eyelids and the part of the brain that deals with logic is shut...

...My Smothered Life 2015 has passed, and it seems to have passed in a jiffy. Fresh out of an engineering college in 2014, I thought and probably many like me thought too, that life is going to be fun. After all, we had a B.Tech degree, a job and our confidence and hopes as an added advantage; far better than many others. Well, yeah, isn’t it. ? But hold on, life wasn’t that easy. If you are reading this,” a new blogger’s post”, probably you are an avid reader, or have absolutely nothing to do, or maybe you are someone like me; fresh out from your dream world to reality. Life was copying assignments, bunking lectures, sleeping on the last bench (not to forget the talent to sleep on the first bench with eyes open), crazy dance nights at hostel with friends, love at first sight, friendships, relationships, break-ups, patch-ups, surprise birthday celebrations, birthday treats, one night studies, movies (especially horror movies watched at night in groups on laptops), discussions about novels, music and of course so many series,...

...Descartes' Methodic Doubt René Descartes (1596-1650) is an example of a rationalist. According to Descartes, before we can describe the nature of reality (as is done in metaphysics) or say what it means for something to be or exist (which is the focus of ontology), we must first consider what we mean when we say we know what reality, being, or existence is. He suggests that it is pointless to claim that something is real or exists unless we first know how such a claim could be known as a justified true belief. But to say that our beliefs are justified, we have to be able to base them ultimately on a belief that is itself indubitable. Such a belief could then provide a firm foundation on which all subsequent beliefs are grounded and could thus be known as true. This way of thinking about knowledge is called foundationalism. In his Meditations on First Philosophy (1641), Descartes indicates how we are able to guarantee our beliefs about reality by limiting what we believe to what is indubitable or is based on what is indubitable. That involves him in a series of six "meditations" (of which we will focus on only the first two) about the proper method of philosophical reflection and the conclusions that can be drawn from using that method. Throughout these Meditations Descartes insists that (1) we should claim to know only that for which we have justification, (2) we cannot appeal to anything outside of our ideas for such justification, and (3) we judge our ideas using a method...

...My Future Goals What are my future goals? Well, let me say that I am dreaming big. I do not wish to become the President or even a CEO of a big business. I just want to be able to make a difference in the life of another. I will be attending my college in the fall and studying to become a pharmacist. After three years there, I will transfer to the actual pharmacy school for another two years. There, I will complete my Pharm D degree, also known as a Doctorate of Pharmacy. I would like to start my career in a pharmacy getting to work with and talk to patients one on one. This will help me better understand how some diseases affect people and which diseases are top priorities to eliminate. It would also be very enjoyable to work with the pharmacy technicians as well. Eventually, I want to obtain a PhD in Pharmacy. By receiving my PhD, I am able to participate in lab research. It is a dream of mine to be able to partake in finding cures for diseases like AIDS and even cancers. I would love to travel the world and assist those in need and provide medicines for those whom cannot acquire it on their own. By being a recipient of this scholarship I am able to go to school for the necessary amount of years and achieve my goals in life. Not only would this award benefit my studies, but also those whom I hope to help in the future. Thank you for your time and considering me for this...

...Genesis 1:26 Then God said: "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and the cattle, and over all the wild animals and all the creatures that crawl on the ground." Isaiah 9:6 His dominion is vast and forever peaceful, From David's throne, and over his kingdom, which he confirms and sustains By judgment and justice, both now and forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this! Malachi 3;1 Lo, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me; And suddenly there will come to the temple the LORD whom you seek, And the messenger of the covenant whom you desire. ...reality while giving new hope to his readers. He actually tries to withdraw from his previous conclusions claiming that he could have used senses rather than thinking and therefore this round he withdraws totally from senses through a process of methodological doubt. He creates a sense of doubt in other scholars work by disputing their line of thinking with a distinguished line of logic. He sheds off any criticism directed at him and urges his readers to argue along his line of logic to get his concept and reason. HOW OR WHY THE COGITO EGO SUM IS HOPEFUL. Descartes concludes that he cannot doubt his existence. He argues that doing so would mean that even the idea of doubting would not exist and as far as it exists, then its source is him, his mind. However, the existence of the body puts him in a situation of doubt. He thinks that the idea of a mind implanted in a body is a deception and forms a basis of argument and cross psychological analysis. He goes ahead to state that this would be demons work of deceiving him or it can be that God was praying tricks on him, something he really doesn’t conquer with. God being perfect, He would not do that. ‘I think, therefore I am’ in the Discourse on method is hopeful because it brings out the picture of knowledge, that the mind can know itself better than it can do to anything else. Descartes is certain that he can only support his own existence presently (that is in the present tense, “I think, therefore I am’) and not in the past (the...

...morning on a gloomy Wednesday, as I am half asleep I heard a sobbing that I will never forget. I am laying in bed thinking that I am just dreaming. I hear my mom crying hysterically, so I quickly rush to her room. Unable to get her to calm down, I panicked. Seeing her cry made my heart sink. She received a call from my aunt that lives three thousand miles away from home that my dad was in critical condition. Doctors are saying he is not responding. While driving, he had a stroke that caused him to have a car accident. He crashed into a tree. My mom ended up going to El Salvador two weeks later to take care of him due to complications she had. They were both gone for four months. Life was hard without either of my parents at home. Home didn’t feel like home. It felt empty. I felt like my world came crashing down. I felt alone and depressed. My dad was on the edge of dying and I could not do anything about it. I...

...I Want to Know … What is Your Dream? Are you willing to lay hold of your dreams? I'm not talking about a wish – a wish is usually only a passing thought that most people never act on. But a dream is something that captures your heart and spirit. It ignites your imagination and fills you with an unquenchable hope. It becomes something you can't easily set aside. Dreams consume your thinking and fuel your excitement and passion. It can happen in a single moment, or it can captivate your thoughts for years. Sometimes when the dream is really big, you embrace it, and somehow it feels like the dream embraces you. Our dreams are often about experiencing a better life, about achieving greater things … they are pictures we have of the future that reveal a part of our lives that will be greater than the past. It takes courage to dream. Any time you dare to dream, there are risks involved. What if it never happens? What if it costs too much? What if people laugh at you? It's hard to hold on to your dreams. It's hard to believe when the world and those around you give you no reason to press in and press on. I've been blessed to realize many dreams in my life and ministry, and I'm convinced that a dream only happens when two things take place: 1. You live with expectant faith that the dream will happen. 2. You refuse to let go of the dream - regardless of the circumstances in your life. When God put the dream in my heart to acquire a sports arena as the location for Lakewood...

...Hey Baby Boo I have something to tell you. You're always lighting up my heart with the things you do and say. I feel so happy just being with you this way. You're my baby, and will forever be my baby. You will always be the love of my life, and please never give up, always have faith in yourself and you will gain the greatest gift of all, the gift of hope and love you righteously deserve. Every time I think of you my heart misses a beat. You're my theme or a dream! Every moment we share together we grow closer. I'm simply hanging by a moment, waiting to see you again so you can hold me so tight that all else fades, I thought after you left you would fade away from my mind, but still, everyday I wake up dreaming of our time together. I will never forget you. I hope you still think of me too. I love you with all that I am, all that I was and all that I will ever be. Please know that my love and I are inseparable and I would want it no other way and if time could express my love for you then it's forever and a day. I can't wait to be with you, see your smile, look in your eyes, feel your sweet touch, hear your perfect words and kiss your perfect lips. The way I feel about you some people call crazy, some call it insane, but I call it true love. I really love...

...New Day It is an early morning in the middle of a warm summer. I am on my familiar route heading to the beach. It usually takes me 5 minutes to walk there from home. Everything is still immersed in the darkness and coldness. The night’s dew remains on the leaves. The chilly winds gently rustle through the swaying coconut trees, and the waves crash the shore. These are the only sounds I can hear. In front of me looms a vast blue sea. It cannot be easier for me to find a good position to observe the sunrise at this time. While people are dreaming their dreams, I am enjoying my favorite part of a day. I leisurely settle down and wait with the excitement. A red streak is appearing at the horizon, growing until it spreads into an iridescent pink path. The sun is there, pink and round, still with the beauty just like the first time I ever saw it. Everything around me seems to not exist. The bigger and higher the fireball is, the more red and dazzling it is. The moment the sun changes its color from pink, red, into white happens in just a few seconds, and I never doubt that it is worth every milliseconds. I regret moving my eyes away from the source of light, down from the sky to the sea. The light starts covering a larger area and becomes too dazzling to observe. The darkness disappears into the nothingness to make room for more radiant colors of the blue sea, white sand, green coconut trees, and golden sunshine. I feel completely relaxed in this beautiful natural place. The fresh...
