What JMJ is, what we do, promote that in the community to help secure volunterrs, fundin,g, promote awareness. Do a lot of strategic planning on how we're gonna grow. Trying to figure out what addicitonal programs we can offer. And then go out and do the speaking and build awareness. Various churches, youth ministries, and drink beer too. Whatever we need to do, oh I'll do it. I'm also an event planner. It's wonderful. Up until july, I was an engineer. Doing it for 11 years. Involved in JMJ, I loved everything about it, I was just busy. I had 3 little kids and work and all kinds of stuff going on. Not as involved as wanted to be. In April, our previous exec director wanted to retire. Looked at husband and said wanted to do this. Very fufilling. Transition into role. Completely new to me. So much fun and so awesome to be able to effect people's lives everyday. See the joy and gratefullness. Beautiful experence. Do you like your job? What do you like about it? I think the biggest thing is to be able to affect people in a positive way. As an enginner, I got to talk to oeopel and develop code, it was kind of boring and wasn't fulfilling. It was comfortable, I appreciated being paid very well. That was the hesitation. Once I made the jump, I realized that to be able to interact with people...

...been the type to own up to them right off the bat. I find it awkward and sometimes too far off, raising a problem when ignoring it was all you probably needed. The thing is I still think about it. You’re not a idiot; it’s pretty obvious. I think you’re amazing and that won’t change no matter what this manages to morph itself into. And in my opinion, it doesn’t need to. But I think about the song, I think about the poems, I think about the unfinished story rotting because I’ve lost what motivated me to complete it. A story is a what-could-have-been right? When we daydream about our futures, daydream about bravery and acceptance and victory, it’s just a fantasy story of our lives. Sometimes I just have to write it down to make sure I don’t lose it. Don’t forget it. Understand that once upon a time, I was such and such. People say in the future, they’ll look back and laugh. I won’t laugh; I’ll understand. Perhaps not why, why you, why this time, why so silent and why so demanding but I’ll understand the circumstances. I’ll understand what drove me and what tore it apart. My entire life’s story out there for everyone to see. Sometimes I feel so exposed. It’s weaving together assumptions that are sometimes so out there, right in the open. But that’s okay, because even things I write a month ago, I no longer understand. I don’t know whom I was so pissed off at and what made me write a passage on loneliness. I don’t need to. It’s all in the moment. &...

...I am 47 years old and I live in Texarkana, Texas. I moved to Texarkana about twelve years ago to get away from the craziness in Houston, Texas. So, I decided to move to the country where I now live with my boyfriend, two, toypoodles, a ferret and my boyfriends parents. We all live in the country on 5 ½ acres. Our home is 2 homes in one which are both separated, the parents live on one side and we live on the other. Once you have been use to living the city life and move to the country it can be quite an adjustment because there is not much to do in Texarkana, Tx compared to Houston. For instance, simple things for me like driving to town seem like such a chore. Since moving to the country instead of going shopping for dinner no more then a mile from home I now have to drive over fifteen miles to town. Sometimes i feel like I have wasted my entire day. The up side of living in the country is that it is quite peaceful and you do not have your neighbor in your back yard. I have four children 2 girls and 2 boys. My girls are Diana my oldest 29 who has two children My grandchildren Makelia 7 and Baby Juan 4. My daughter Mary is 28 and she has 3 boys Vince 8, Louie, 3, and Baby Luke who is 1 ½ . ...The Reason Why I Started To Eat Carrots It is Sunday afternoon; I’m hungry and I can’t take off my mind the carrot cake that I eat each year on my birthday. I’m gazing at the splendid vista that my huge picture window offers. It is winter now, and as far I can see, there is no green anywhere in the woods, only the desolate gray that is scattered among the crunchy branches, the dead frozen grass that doesn’t lure the deer to come by and say hi to the window. But here I am, the time is passing, and I have the feeling of being part of a movie playing in slow motion, one that shows my life passing by in front of my eyes, and I can’t touch it. Walking with my head down, suddenly, a sparkle of light on the ground calls my attention; it is a distortion of the sun that deceives me with a fractured hint of a gem that becomes the most important thing to me for the next three seconds. It is a leaf. Here is when the shining leaf took me back to a big moment, that moment in the past that everyone remembers once in a while. Those memories that transport us back to times of happiness. The shining leaf I had rescued has the same brown glazed color of a carrot cake. Those memories are ‘messing’ in my head, just to cause my emotions to emerge. Was this weird or just coincidence? The golden brown color in a carrot cake is the only thing I can think about right now. Yeah, life gives surprises and on this occasion it gives me a trip to the past. I was just five years old. The memories come back...

...because they have different taste. For example, my mom likes steak while my dad likes salad. If I would choose 3 favorite foods of mine, those are Kimchi, sandwiches and seasoned rice cakes. First, I consider Kimchi to be one of my favorite foods. When I was in my mom’s belly, my mom ate Kimchi a lot. Thus, I suppose this is why I like Kimchi so much. Actually, Kimchi is spicy and smells stinky, however it gets along with our daily food such as rice, noodle and soup adding refresh taste. Next, another one of my favorite foods is sandwiches. My mom has made different types of sandwiches since I was little by inserting my favorite foods in the sandwiches such as cheese, hams, eggs and potatoes. ...celebration with a meal, presents, and the popular cutting of the birthday cake. However, I believe that Paul Goodman’s “Birthday Cake” depicts a painful and upsetting scene with the celebration of a birthday. Through his choice of words, images portrayed in the poem, and symbols, Goodman reveals a dark point of view on this special day: birthdays celebrate death rather than life for the old. The first clue of the painful reminder of death is the use of anaphora in the first stanza. Goodman repeats “too many” four times in three quick lines: when the candles on the icing are one two too many too many to blow out too many to count too many The first time the phrase is used, Goodman is referring to the candles on the cake—there are too many candles. Candles on a birthday cake represent the age of the birthday person; too many candles indicate old age. Goodman emphasizes the amount of candles with a pun by using the words two and too, successively. The speaker is reminded of his old age with the excessive amount of candles. Anaphora continues when Goodman reiterates, “now isn’t it time,” in the first and last line of the stanza. This first stanza ends in a rhetorical question, “isn’t it time to give up this ritual?” I noticed Goodman used ritual as opposed to celebration, or any positive...

...Have you ever heard of a sand dune? Well, if you haven’t, I will tell you about them in this report. I will also tell you how I made a tasty model of a coastal sand dune. So….start reading! Sand dunes are fragile and formed by wind and water moving and sculpting the sand. The dune starts with wind that moves the sand. The wind moves it into piles just like a snow drift. The sand will build up on itself layer upon layer. Each new wind can make the dune larger and each new pile of sand can grow into a huge dune. Sand dunes form around stuff on the beach like rocks, drift wood and stuff that washes up on the beach during high tide. Inside sand dunes there are plant roots, which hold the sand together. This helps protect the sand dune from being destroyed. A dune holds the sand on the beach to help cut down erosion. Dunes are very important, without them the beaches would disappear. Coastal sand dunes can be found in North Carolina, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Maryland, Florida, Georgia and Texas. Dunes on the Georgia coast normally grow 10 to 12 feet tall and can be found all along Georgia’s barrier islands. These Dunes and islands have protected Georgia from the ocean tide. Plants are an important part of a dune. Plants that are on the fore dune must be able to take salt sprays, strong winds and burial by blowing sand. Plants like sea rocket, beach croton and Russian thistle grow here. On top of the dunes grass such as salt meadow cord grass...

...very special day, moon cakes are definitely the star on the dinner table for people across China. And here in the capital, the unique Beijing-style moon cakes have satisfied the taste buds(味蕾) of locals for generations. They may not look as fancy as Cantonese-style moon cakes, but the Beijing versions have their own unique features. The handmade, hard-crusted moon cakes are made of rock sugar, walnut kernels(核桃仁), pumpkin seeds(南瓜子) and qinghongsi(青红丝), or candied tangerine peel(陈皮) slices. "The most popular ones among Beijingers are zilaihong and zilaibai. Zilaihong uses red sugar in the dough, while zilaibai uses white sugar. The taste is simple but pure," said Chi Xiangdong, former Owner of Dao Xiang Cun. And there’s an interesting story behind zilaibai and zilaihong. Legend has that long ago a serious plague hit Beijing. To help the sick people, Chang’e the mythical Moon Goddess sent her servant the Jade Rabbit, which made two kinds of medicine, one red and one white. The medicine gradually evolved into zilaibai and zilaihong moon cakes, which preserved the red and white colors. Although it’s just a legend, ever since then, zilaibai and zilaihong moon cakes have always been linked to rabbits. "It’s actually a kind of toy for the kids, but it evokes memories from the past and definitely adds more fun to the festival," Chi Xiangdong said. Now, with more variations of moon cakes on the market, traditional Beijing moon cakes have begun to fade from...

...Taste of Tradition King cake during Mardi Gras season is like hot dogs at a baseball stadium, they always go together. Every true New Orleans native knows from the beginning of January to Ash Wednesday is the time to eat as many king cakes as possible before they disappear until the next year. Everyone has their favorite bakery to get one from weather it be Randazzos, Haydels , or Gambino’s just to name a few of the top places to get that delicious treat. They come in all sizes and some with fillings like cream cheese or different types of berries Strawberry cream cheese being my favorite of course. King Cake dates back to 1870, and thought to be from France. It is a mix between a coffee cake and French pastry. The cake is topped with colored sugar, each of which having a different meaning, Purple is for Justice, green for faith, and gold for power (Eplett 1). The Colors were chosen to represent a jeweled crown for the three wise men, “The three Kings,” where the name King’s Cake came from. Inside each cake there is a plastic baby hidden inside for the person to find. The person is then named “King” for the day, and has to buy the next king cake ("Randazzo's Camellia City Bakery | Lagniappe"). I’ve tried King Cakes from all many different bakeries, from Louisiana to Alabama. Each with different textures and taste, while some had filling and some did not. I love when Mardi Gras season comes around every year just so I can get my hands on a great king cake. One of my most Memorable...

...AND POST YOUR COMMENTS. I picked the episode on Daisy Cakes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVM-RuLh2KI Kim Nelson from Spartanburg, South Carolina made her appearance on Shark Tank asking for $50,000 for 25% equity of her company. Daisy cakes features old family recipes (from her grandmother and great aunt Daisy) of homemade cakes made from scratch with no preservatives, made by Kim and her mother in their commercial kitchen, packaged in a cake tin, dry ice packed and shipped nationwide. Daisy cakes are made with hand sifted flour, farm fresh eggs and every cake is hand iced with homemade icing. The Nelson family has invested $93,000 to date with a $27,000 return in a 3 month window October through December of the previous year after attending only 3 trade shows. Each cake costs approximately $18 to make, while charging an average of $44.50 per cake plus delivery expenses. Kim hands out samples of her cakes to each of the 5 “sharks” all rave and state that it is the best cake they have ever tasted. All of the male “sharks” drop out stating that the business was to small to invest in. The remaining “shark” Barbra Corcoran offers Kim the $50,000 under two conditions: 1 For each cake sold she would receive $1.00 and 2 That Kim’s mother had to attend every possible trade show and hustle the Daisy Cake Samples. Kim agreed to the terms I personally picked this episode because I love cake and thought it would be interesting to watch. I personally think that after...

...Adventures In Cake and College The idea of going to college never seemed to be much of a reality when I graduated from high school fourteen years ago, instead I found myself in the position of starting a family. Now that I am in my mid-thirties, with three teenage children, I feel like a kid again with a new passion for things. I have recently found a new passion in my life that apparently I am pretty talented at, which is the wonderful world of cake decorating. I have always been a very crafty person who also loves to cook and bake. A favorite thing to do as a family is to watch all of the cake shows on television, so a little over a year ago when my son turned thirteen I decided I would try my hand at making him a fancy cake like they do on television. I have never had any type of formal training, and really had no idea what I was doing, but I was going to make it work somehow. I did tons of research on the internet, as well as watching several shows to learn as much as I could before I attempted anything. Finally it was time to bake. My son is a what some people would call a legomaniac, so my husband and I decided to make his cake look like Lego blocks that spelled out the number thirteen. It actually turned out to be really cute! Once I had that one under my belt, I did a couple more cakes for family members birthdays over the next couple of months, as well as a couple of carry-in events that we had attended. That is when everything really started to take off. I started...
