...Being an honors student is a privilege and an honor. It can be difficult for some people to keep good grades and high test scores. For most kids, being an honors student is an accomplishment. Honors students work very hard and always try their best. In this essay, I will be explaining the three main characteristics of an honors student; Good grades, hard working, and never giving up. First I will be reviewing about having good grades as an honors student. If you do not push yourself and have good grades, then you can not be an honors student. If you are an honors student with bad grades, it shows that you are not tying in school. Having good grades shows a lot about your character. It shows that you work hard and you are serious about your...

...Controversy of Honor Codes Schools generally agree to have some sort of honor code to keep students from cheating, but should this be necessary? They are enforced to keep student’s behavior in line and keep them out of trouble. The code has students thinking for themselves, making them think independently and originally. Students are obligated to report those who are violating the honor code making them feel active in a community. These are just some reasons I feel as though schools should have their own type of honor code. Expulsion can be a result of students not following the honor code they have agreed to. Being entirely kicked from a school is not something that anyone wants to happen in their life. This strikes a fear into the student keeping them on their best behavior. Nobody would want to have to tell their family that they were expelled from the school they worked hard to...

...The discourse communities that I chose to focus on in my paper were my involvement in Appalachian State’s Student Government Association (SGA) and my membership in Appalachian State’s Honors College. One of my main successes writing this paper was deciding on the two best discourse communities to use. SGA and the Honors College proved to be obvious choices due to amount of time I spend attending meetings for SGA and studying to stay in good academic standing with the Honors College. Another one of the successes that I had while writing this paper was reflecting on the “so what” component of my literacy in my discourse communities....

...I am applying to the UNCW Honors College to gain valuable experiences, learn from my peers, and to have a more engaged academic environment. I truly believe this program allows me to be the best student I can be while participating and learning in the Honors community. I hope the in-depth level of conversation in the smaller classes offered to honors students will deepen my understanding of certain subjects. I am driven to succeed and want to be surrounded by other like-minded students. I see know I will reach my full potential and push myself to achieve my goals in the Honors program. I will contribute things such as a global perspective, goal-oriented mindset, and the willingness to put myself out there whether that be a new service opportunity...

...Being involved in Honors Program, I had a chance to take some classes that are not available for everyone. Studying in smaller groups and going deeper in the subjects, I felt special. I really enjoyed such classes as Calculus for Business (HON) and Becoming a Global Manager (HON) that totally related to my Business major. I feel really honored to have had such a great chance of taking those classes. It was also great because the professors focused on each student in particular, which gave an opportunity to grasp every aspect, every detail of the classes. Now, I feel confident about my ability to communicate with different people (especially with those who are more talented or more intelligent in some way). I am definitely able to develop a way more various topics and support almost any discussion. That is how Honors Program has helped me so far. It gave me some motivation to strive to higher levels of both education and everyday life. Being surrounded by the Honors students, I feel that I want to belong to this society, to feel that I am not worse or weaker in any field, any area of studies. Today, I think I know what ambitions and what friends I should have. What I have noticed is that students are obsessed with their GPA height and willingness to be one of the best according to their exam results’ percentages. I personally do not think that exam results are the best way to reflect students’ knowledge; especially, when a final grade is made out not from just quizzes...

...Is the honor code necessary if many students refuse to even recognize the legitimacy of their honor code? High schools and colleges are trying to enforce this system of set rules to prevent plagiarism among students but it does not seem to be quite effective . Therefore whether schools maintain, revise, or eliminate the honor code, I believe our school should revise the honor code because if it is not student enforced, students will choose to ignore it and will not be effective. The honor code is not effective if students see it as just another rule to obey. I noticed that many students at my school are not fully aware of the honor code or even the penalties that follow it. A student senator from Lawrence Academy says that, “ Many students thought that a pledge of honor for each piece of paper submitted was excessive, but a less frequent pledge of honor could be a helpful reminder of their responsibilities.” (Source B) This shows that the student driven revision helped to gain student approval for the honor code. Research done at Rutgers University by professor Donald L. McCabe, says that “ students at colleges with honor codes—typically student-enforced—cheat less than their counterparts elsewhere do.” Although this is a college source, the evidence still applies to all students because everyone sets the same expectations for their...

...Throughout my childhood, I took life way too easy. I never really found school to be much important in life when compared to the football or baseball games that came on TV. Yet, I still worked really hard, finishing my homework each night, but I never really found true success, like getting all A’s in a school year. I was always jealous of my younger brother who never got below a 100% on anything that he did. He finished second in a law day contest in the state, and achieved high success (perfect scores) on the NJ ASK. On the other hand, I was really lazy. I got honor roll sometimes, but this wasn’t good enough. A lot of cousins didn’t really think I was going to succeed academically in life. I always thought to myself, I’m going to get that high honor roll next year, but sadly I kept on being hesitant, procrastinated all the time, and got even more sad....

...National Honor Society is one of the nation's most well-known organizations because it honors students with outstanding academic skills. With that being said, since the start of my high school career I had wanted to be a part of this prestigious club. And, not just because members got to wear an extra tassel at graduation, but instead because of the opportunities that came with membership. To lay the foundation for this essay, I want to be a member of NHS because it builds character, shows leadership, provides services and looks good on a college application. First off, this club helps build and improve one's character which is important for all job fields and especially for those that involve teamwork. This because having character means that I’d have the ability to show respect and empathy, which in turn will help me foster positive working relationships. Furthermore, it is especially important in a team because you need to collaborate in order to get the job done, and when you can’t respect a co-worker, you’ll create more problems than end...

...school was to become a member of National Honor Society. I always admired the individuals that were inducted because they were known for being diligent workers, intelligent, and selfless. It has been an enormous honor to be part of this organization for which I worked exhaustingly to get into. The four pillars of National Honor Society represent a whole embodiment of virtue one must poses to qualify for this distinction, but the true representation of the four pillars is how they build one’s character to prepare them for the future. First, the pillar of scholarship represents an intellectual student. It is through time, dedication, and commitment to learning that a student gains knowledge. This pillar has motivated me to understand that in order to gain the most out of education you must be willing to spend time studying and reading to comprehend the subject. However, the pillar of scholarship does not restrict to school. By committing myself to earn the best grades is a representation of the dedication...

...As I continue my studies at the University of Alabama, I want to maintain a 4.0 GPA and furthermore graduate with honors. Although this goal seems farfetched in many ways, I believe my best effort and hard work can truly make this goal a reality as long as I keep my priorities straight. I enjoy the challenge of a class and I believe it is important to take a step beyond simply going to class and memorizing material for a test. There is so much more to be gained by actually comprehending the material that can further translate to a better understanding of the world as well as becoming a well-rounded person. I also want to take courses in the remainder of my time at the University of Alabama that I would not necessarily consider myself to be interested in. Being at college gives students a chance to diversify and take interest in subjects that they had not been presented with before, and I fully plan on accomplishing that....

...many and most students my age, this is a very stressful time in our lives. Writing essays, filling out applications, keeping up relationships, and making important decisions is the only thing on our brains. In all of this chaos we tend to forget to ask ourselves, “Why am I doing all of this?” The essay prompt presented by Trinity’s Honors Program was a good reminder of what education means to me and why I want to dedicate the next phase of my life to furthering my education. What you choose to spend your time doing in college is more than just a “phase.” These years are pivotal to the decisions and life choices that students will make. Choices like this can be handled frivolously or with great care. The course of how they are handled often goes hand in hand with discipline. For me, throughout high school, I feel as if I have been extremely disciplined in my studies and extra-curricular programs. I would say this is a crucial trait to have going into any major, but especially when dealing with God’s Word. This is something that can’t just have some dedication; it can’t be taken lightly. As I plan on entering the MDiv program, I know that I need to have this discipline and dedication. I am...

...Candidate Number 120 As a student at West Clermont High School, I feel that I have worked long and hard for the opportunity to be apart of The National Honor Society. Being apart of this amazing group is a very important thing to me. It not only shows the hard work I have put forth but it also shows colleges my hard work. Standing out from other students is a huge thing that colleges look for nowadays. The National Honors Society allows me to do this by not only making my name look good but also making me become a better person. I have very big plans on what I want to achieve later in life and this is a step closer to being there. I would love the chance to be an individual in this group. My morals are something I am most proud of as a person. I believe that I am able to make intelligent decisions. I know the impact that most decisions will have on me and the consequences I may or may not need to face because of it. Honesty is a very important quality to a person. If someone is dishonest about something, the image someone has in their head about this person is then destroyed. How someone views me is very important. I just like anyone want to be thought of as a nice, friendly and smart. To be thought of like this you have to embody these things. I take pride in being helpful and nice to anyone I can be. My time is...

...Honor policies within school systems have faced mere judgements of rants from the student body due to the overwhelming strict ideas enforced. Students who seem to be completing their own work at their best ability are under a shadow of deceit and pure lies. This current development has been growing at a rapid rate due to the easiness of prior work from alumni within grasp of the suspected students. Computer access is one of the leading causes for plagiarizing in the new generation, copying is usually an effort which has been deteriorated during these preceding years since the results are staggering and punishments increasing as the cycle rages on. Therefore, school administrators and student officials should take in data results from questionnaires...

To be inducted into NHS has always been an academic dream of mine. I know this organization would be beneficial to my Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service aspirations throughout my high school and college careers.
