INSTRUCTIONS

Each page contains a multiple-choice question. Read the question and the four possible answers carefully. Try to select the key word that best completes the sentence. For additional help, there is a synonym of the missing word at the end of the sentence. Use the free KINDLE dictionary to learn more about the meaning and usage of unknown words.

11

12

When you have selected an answer choice, turn to the next page so as to get immediate feedback whether you were right or wrong. The wrong distractors are crossed out and you are provided with an example sentence of the key word and synonyms. The example sentences have been meticulously researched and edited to provide models of correct and natural usage for your own speech or writing.

13

Bookmark or highlight the sentences that you need to revise. You can, then, turn page so as to continue with the rest of the exercise. After completing the exercises in this interactive eBook, you will have met each key word many times. According to research, frequent revision is one of the most effective ways to acquire new vocabulary Don’t worry, even if you make many mistakes in the beginning; the point of this activity is to learn or revise vocabulary, as well as study the definitions and example sentences of the key words. Repeat the exercise a few times until you feel you have memorised the words. A key component of our approach is that key words are constantly recycled in every exercise. As a result, after completing all exercises in this eBook, you can memorise the meanings of most key words. Be persistent and… GOOD LUCK!

PIEDAD, JESIRYL V. CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Rationale English, the second language in Philippines plays an important role as a means of communication in many parts of the world, and is considered important in order to absorb and develop technology, art and culture and also to maintain good relationship with foreign country. English is also the tool to communicate and interact with foreign people and international audiences. English has been acknowledged as the medium of great deal of the world’s knowledge (Crystal, 1999). In this case, the educational institution plays an important role in supporting the teaching of English. In learning English, there are four language skills that have to be mastered by learner. According Ronny (2009), we have to learn at least four language skills: (1) listening (2) speaking (3) reading (4) writing. ...ready to take the IELTS exam. In interpreting your score, there are a number of points you should bear in mind. Your performance in the real IELTS test will be reported in two ways: there will be a Band Score from 1 to 9 for each of the modules and an Overall Band Score from 1 to 9, which is the average of your scores in the four modules. However, institutions considering your application are advised to look at both the Overall Band and the Bands for each module. They do this in order to see if you have the language skills needed for a particular course of study. For example, if your course has a lot of reading and writing, but no lectures, listening comprehension might be less important and a score of 5 in Listening might be acceptable if the Overall Band Score was 7. However, for a course where there are lots of lectures and spoken instructions, a score of 5 in Listening might be unacceptable even though the Overall Band Score was 7. Once you have marked your papers you should have some idea of whether your Listening and Reading skills are good enough for you to try the real IELTS test. If you did well enough in one module but not in others, you will have to decide for yourself whether you are ready to take the proper test yet. The Practice Tests have been checked so that they are about the same level of difficulty as the real IELTS test. However, we cannot guarantee that your score in the Practice Test papers will be reflected in the real IELTS test. The Practice...

...ork2012 - 2013 Catalog A Message from the President “Sullivan University is truly a unique and student success focused institution.” I have shared that statement with numerous groups and it simply summarizes my basic philosophy of what Sullivan is all about. When I say that Sullivan is “student success focused,” I feel as President that I owe a definition of this statement to all who are considering Sullivan University. First, Sullivan is unique among institutions of higher education with its innovative, career-first curriculum. You can earn a career diploma or certificate in a year or less and then accept employment while still being able to complete your associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree by attending during the day, evenings, weekends, or online. Business and industry do not expand or hire new employees only in May or June each year. Yet most institutions of higher education operate on a nine-month school year with almost everyone graduating in May. We remained focused on your success and education, and continue to offer our students the opportunity to begin classes or to graduate four times a year with our flexible, year-round full-time schedule of classes. If you really want to attend a school where your needs (your real needs) come first, consider Sullivan University. I believe we can help you exceed your expectations. Since words cannot fully describe the atmosphere at Sullivan University, please accept my personal invitation to visit and experience...
