8 September 2008 If I Won the Lottery Life is difficult for most people. We all work very hard, trying to survive in a very hectic world. It is not easy to wake up early every morning and face the same routine, whether it is the work we have to do in school or putting up with our bosses and all the responsibilities of our jobs. That is why most of us dream of becoming millionaires. But, how can we achieve this? Some people are lucky to marry a person with huge sums of money. Others are able to work their way to success. However, not everyone is so lucky, and most individuals dream of instant luck. Many people play the lottery, and some are even fortunate enough to win. The chances are slim, of course, but, as the saying goes, all you need is “a dollar and a dream.” If I won the lottery, I would buy a huge house and open my own spa. The first thing I would do with my winnings is buy the home I have always dreamt of. I have always lived in an apartment, which isn’t too bad, but, after a while, a person starts to want more space. My home would be quite large. It would consist of two floors: the first floor would be the kitchen, living room, and dining room. I would also have a den where I could be as messy as I want because when I had visitors, I’d always leave the door to that room closed. The living room would be the place where most of my visitors would spend their time, so it would have a wide-screen television, where everyone could be entertained. My furniture would be very unique, too. My sofas would be red velvet, which would match the red velvet curtains on the five windows that surround the room. This would allow for sunlight to enter, but it would also allow for some privacy, just in case I have some of those “special” guests. The second floor would consist of six bedrooms, with mine, of course, being the largest. I would have a king-size bed, and I’d make sure my maid would change my linen sheets each day. My room would be my oasis. It would consist of antique furniture and a huge picture window, where I could sit and relax each morning before I start my day. The guest bedrooms would also be nice, but they would not compare with mine. Each room would have its private bathroom, with a toilet, a sink, and a bathtub, but my private bathroom would have a Jacuzzi. If I were feeling generous, I may invite some of my guests to join me, but I think I’d rather unwind, by myself, at the end of the day. It would be a bubble bath for me each night! Although most people would want to quit their jobs if they won millions, I would not want to stop working. I would definitely tell my boss what I think of him and quit, but it would be important to me to continue to hold a job—only I’d be my own boss. My greatest pleasure is to make people feel beautiful and good about themselves because I believe if someone likes the way he or she looks, then that will change a person’s attitude about life in general. Therefore, I’d open my own spa and call it “A Little Bit of Heaven.” Some of the services would include manicures, pedicures, and hair styling. There is nothing more rewarding to a woman, especially, when she leaves a salon with a new cut and color, and I’d make sure that my employees were well-trained in that area, so that each customer would walk away satisfied, happy, and willing to come back. Since I would have enough money, I’d also try to make the prices affordable. It’s not fair that only the rich can afford such luxuries. This would be my chance to help ordinary people pamper themselves for a while. Massages would be another feature my spa would offer both men and women. During each session, my customers would listen to soft music, and each room would be painted in soft pastel colors that would soothe the senses. In addition to massages, however, after each session, the customer would receive a complimentary salad and mineral water, served in the “parlor.” This would give them the chance to further treat their bodies well and to meet other people in the spa. They could exchange stories of how they enjoyed their experience and perhaps make a date to come back together the next time. Winning the lottery would be wonderful because I would buy a beautiful home and open up my own business. My home would have enough space and be furnished to my taste, and it would also welcome my friends and family. My spa would help people feel beautiful and enhance their view of themselves. Each customer would be treated as if he or she were the most special person in the universe. I doubt I will ever win the lottery; millions play, and so few actually ever see any money. For now, I suppose I will have to continue working and struggling, but it does not hurt to dream.
