The film that I have chosen is “The Departed”. My overall all impression is a great drma, great story, great ending, and best of all, great cast. This movie had several of my personal favorite actors who are also at the top of Hollywood as well; Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, and more.
The plot is basically corrupt police in a very crime infested community. A hard working kid meets the main criminal of the community and is lured into doing some dirty work. He grows up to become a police officer however is still very in touch with his criminal family and friends. He gets a lot of things they need via the police force. Then there is also a cop who goes undercover with them. Eventually, both sides catch wind that there is some people playing on both sides. Without spoiling, things get crazy!
The cast was superb! I’m talking actors that fit it so well you would think they were cops or crooks. But what really made me respect the acting was mostly Matt Damon and Leo, they played the nice guy and bad guy which showed in their speech, their dialogue and there overall expressions. The acting was spectacular!
The only thing that stood out to me about visual effects, music, dialogue, sound etc. was the music and dialogue. The music was very suiting and all the background music wasn’t noticeable therefore worked perfectly. The best song they used was during the opening titles, “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” by the “Dropkick Murphy’s”, very suiting to the setting of the movie and to the characters. Also, the dialogue was very understandable, straight forward, and best of all, suiting. They fulfilled the gang-like character quite well by using accents, slang and curses. Good stuff I say, good stuff.
The plot, the ending, and the cast selection all stood out to me. The plot was just so straight forward but with twists and turns. It had so many main characters but it was eas6 to remember who did what and who hated who etc. Very well thought out. The ending was absolutely phenomenal; very intense, straight to the point, and best of all, violent. Finally, the cast selection was clearly amazing… a lot of huge actors in this film. Caught my eye in the trailer and they lived up to the expectations.
