...being open to find resolutions to problems faster. Village Inn uses the simple organizational structure because it is a small business and only a few number of employees work at the company therefor it is more manageable for upper management to keep a close eye on the evaluation of the business. The second organization that I will be comparing is IHOP, the international house of pancakes. I personally have worked at both and have been able to evaluate what makes them so different yet so similar. To talk about IHOP first since it was the first restaurant that I worked for. Working there for six years really gave me an inside of a customer service company. Then moving to Village Inn I quickly realized that, that particular company had a really good idea of how to run a successful business. Grant it that IHOP is very successful also, what the difference was, what was their goal and how were they trying to achieve it. At both restaurants they actually sell very similar dishes that include breakfast, lunch and dinner, and some dishes were even named the same. Both of the restaurants have similar desert options that they try and push. IHOP is known for their famous different styles of...

Manassas, VA 20110 October 25, 2012 Josh Carter 231 Liberty Avenue Manassas, VA 20110 Dear Mr. Carter: Pet Friendly Restaurant Policy Our motto at IHOP is “Come Hungry, Leave Happy”. It is not just a saying but also an idea that we hope is validated with each one of our customers. We take pride in satisfying our customers and in making their dining experience with us a pleasurable one. IHOP constantly listens to each customer when it comes to implementing change in our services and restaurants. Your suggestion of converting our facility into a pet friendly restaurant has been discussed in our most recent board meeting. The idea of allowing your pets to join you in our restaurants poses some concerns that were addressed. Sanitation concerns were at the top of our list as it relates to the pet hair and potential fleas, ticks and other diseases that our four legged friends can be carrying. In addition, we must take into consideration all of our customers needs and the fact that some may have allergies and/or be afraid of animals. While we want to improve your dining experience as well, we have to cater to the dining experience of everyone and make the best decision for the majority of our customers. Based upon these concerns, we are unable to accommodate your request to become a pet friendly facility. However, during our board meeting, we did take some time to compose a proposal to submit to our corporate office to invest in adding...

Consumer Buying Process

...Demographic and psychographic researches are important components to a brands marketing strategy. First of all a brand has to understand who is buying their product. This is very detailed process and covers a wide range of attributes from family size to annual income to education and the list can go on. Psychographics is considerably more difficult to determine since “it deals with beliefs, interests, hobbies and things that are important to us” (Brauer, 2014). IHOP’s demographic pool is hard to determine company wide since the brand is franchised. However, despite this difficulty the brand’s demographic pool is primarily made up of the baby boomer generation and Hispanic families with children. The psychographic makeup of the IHOP consumer includes but is not limited, to those who are more health conscious and find value important. IHOP’s understanding of the demographic and psychographic makeup of their consumers allows them to know who their target audience is. When a brand understands their target audience they are then able to formulate a marketing strategy designed for that specific audience. When a consumer is considering a purchase they go through a process known as the consumer buying process. The consumer buying process is “a mental state that a consumer enters into when they are about to make a purchasing decision (Brauer,2014) Within this process there are 5 steps the steps are as follows 1. Problem/Need Recognition- When you are hungry or thirsty or even have a...

Work

...I am the overnight manager at the local IHOP restaurant. The normal everyday life of the restaurant is quite dull and boring. We are open Sunday through Thursday from 6 A.M. until midnight. On Friday and Saturdays we are open twenty-four hours a day. When the witching hour hits at midnight on these two nights, in particular, it is like being one of the main characters in a Tim Burton movie, maybe perhaps, “A Nightmare at IHOP”. The first of the stragglers start to uproot themselves from their graves around 2:30 A.M. This is when the majority of the clubs start to shut down all over Birmingham. You know what kind of night you are going to have when you see the first of your guests trying to detangle themselves from the restraints of their cars. If it takes them twenty minutes just to exit the vehicle you know you’re in for a bumpy ride. The next thing you notice is the clothing of the people that are about to enter the restaurant. Clothes make up a huge part of this chilling experience. These girls have also rummaged into a t-shirt drawer and decided that a t-shirt will be the choice dress of the night. The t-shirt barely covers the back of their hairy upper thighs. But hey, the mirror that they looked into before they left their house for the night said, “Girl, you look damn sexy”. Glittery makeup is acceptable when it is worn on the eyelids but when you have liberally powdered your entire upper body it is only accentuating...

Stable Marrige Problem

I Am Sam

...showed her. Sam’s lawyer just needed to take the time to listen to her son. A particular scene from the film, I Am Sam, characterizes how characters show nonverbal and relationship element of communication. In the movie, I Am Sam, there are two key elements of communication that I found interesting. Let’s take a look at the two key elements; Relation Dialectics and Eye Contact throughout the film I Am Sam. Relation Dialectics is the first communication I am going to talk about. I found the following while watching the movie: closeness and openness, autonomy and connection, and novelty and predictability (DeVito, 2009, 2007, pp.220-221). The first scene that used relation dialectic communication is when Sam and his daughter, Lucy, are at the IHOP restaurant. This scene shows novelty and predictability. Sam is predictable by always ordering the same thing. Lucy shows novelty because she wants to try a new restaurant that she has never been at before. According to our book, The Interpersonal Communication, “each individual in a relationship may experience a...
