The CPCE Libraries Catalogue helps you: • locate library materials; • locate information from electronic resources, including ejournal articles, and view the full text/image of the article whenever available; • place hold on materials on loan to others; • check your loan status or renew a loan; • view your Reading History; • execute the preferred search statement(s) that you previously saved; • search/transfer your search to the PolyU Pao Yue-kong Library catalogue.

Guide
• With the desired item displayed, click on the Request button on the top of the screen. • Key in your Library Number and Library PIN (Personal Identification Number), then click on the Submit button. • Select an item, and click on the Request Selected Item button. • You will be notified by email when the requested item is ready for you to pick up. Please check the email account provided to you by the College regularly; address of this email account is shown at myRecord (see “myRecord” below). • You may cancel your hold after logging in myRecord.
Subject • The library uses standard subject headings as established by the Library of Congress. e.g. Environmental management -- Standards Keyword • Key in a distinctive word or phrase from the author, title or subject field, or from the table of content. e.g. computer aided design • To search by fields, select a field from the drop down list. • To search for topics that have two or more concepts, select AND from the drop down list, or type AND between them. e.g. computer aided design and fashion • To look for items with terms that are related, select OR from the drop down list, or type OR between the terms. e.g. (computer aided design or cad) and fashion • To exclude unwanted word, select AND NOT from the drop down list, or type AND NOT before it. e.g. amazon and not river • To find all words that begin with the same root, add ** after the root. e.g. hotel** and comput** • Use NEAR to specify words close to each other, in any order. e.g. nursing near community Limiting / Modifying • Click on the Limit This Search or Modify Search button on the top of the screen, after you have conducted a search. • To limit results to available items, check the box on the browse list. Journal Articles and Electronic Resources Searching • At http://lib.cpce-polyu.edu.hk/, click on the title of the resource under Electronic Resources. • Follow the instruction shown on the screen to start searching the desired databases. For details, check the corresponding user guide available.
myRecord
At the main menu of the library catalogue, select myRecord. You may log in myRecord with your Library Number and Library PIN to • view your loan status and the due dates; • renew a loan; • cancel the hold you placed but not yet filled; • view your fine status; • view your Reading History; • execute the preferred search(es) you previously saved; • check the address of your email account for receiving library notices. Library Number (Barcode) • For students, your Library Number is your student number, plus the last replacement digit. Please leave out any space. Both numbers are printed on your Student Card. e.g. 04123456G0 • For staff, your Library Number is printed on your Staff Card below your name. • For other users, your Library Number is usually printed on your Library Ticket. Library PIN (Personal Identification Number) • There is no default Library PIN for you. If you have not specified a PIN before, while logging in myRecord, leave the PIN box empty, and then click on the Submit button. You will be prompted to input a PIN. • The PIN can be up to 30 alphanumeric characters.
Remote Access
The library catalogue can be accessed freely via the World Wide Web at http://lib.cpce-polyu.edu.hk. The electronic resources can be accessed at the library catalogue with your Library Number and Library PIN (Personal Identification Number) (see “myRecord” below).
Searching
You can search in and display both English and Chinese characters. Author • Type last name first e.g. gates roger e.g. 厲以寧 • Use this option to search for names of organizations or conferences. e.g. united nations Title • It is not necessary to enter the entire title, but the first few words must be accurate. e.g. to search for Gone with the wind, type the entire title, or just gone with • Omit initial articles, such as A, An, The. e.g. to search for The King and I , type king and i
Placing Hold / Requesting
• You can only place hold on those items on loan to another user. Reserve and Audio Visual items are not requestable.
• To modify your PIN, click on Modify your PIN after logging in myRecord. • If you forget your PIN, ask the library staff at the Counter to delete your old PIN. You can then set up a new one.

Viewing / Renewing Loans
• At the main menu of the library catalogue, select myRecord. • Key in your Library Number and Library PIN. Then click on the Submit button. • You may then display the items checked out by you. • Mark the items and click on the Renew Selected Items button to renew. • You can only renew an item twice if it is not requested by another user. The new due date will be shown on screen after renewal is accepted.
on the leftmost of the record, or click on Save All On Page to mark all the records that are displayed on the page. Then click on the Save Marked Records button. Click on the Export Saved List button on the top of the screen. To email the records, input your complete email address, then click on the Submit button. To save the records to a disk, select Local Disk, then click on the Submit button. Choose Save to save the records in a file, then input a file name.

• Searching PolyU Pao Yue-kong Library Catalogue At the Go To box at the bottom of the main menu of the library catalogue, select One Stop Search : CPCE Libraries & PolyU Pao Yue-kong Library to search both catalogues of the CPCE and the PolyU Pao Yue-kong libraries simultaneously, or PolyU Pao Yue-kong Library to go to the PolyU Pao Yue-kong Library catalogue to carry out searches. • Transferring Current Search to PolyU Pao Yue-kong Library Catalogue After doing a search, click on the PolyU Lib button on the right hand side of the result display screen. The current search statement will then be transferred and executed at the PolyU Pao Yue-kong Library catalogue.
My Reading History
• Log in myRecord at the main menu of the library catalogue with your Library Number and Library PIN. • Click on the My Reading History button. • Click on the Opt-In button. • The items that you check out afterwards will be kept in a list for your perusal. • You may delete any item(s) in the list. • To remove the history and disable the keeping, click on the Opt-Out button. • To enable the keeping of your checked out history again, click on the Opt-In button.
Preferred Searches
• Log in myRecord with your Library Number and Library PIN. • Click on the Search Catalogue button to do searching. • Save the search statement by clicking on the Save as preferred search button at the result display screen. • To execute the search statement later, log in myRecord click on the Preferred Searches button select Search on the right hand side of the search statement.
