...Demand Quantification for Fuel Requirements, Energy Source, Conversion Technology and Siting, and Powerplant Design in the Province of Iloilo Design Paper by Gino P. Jardinico BS Mechanical Engineering Student: 2011-15731 Submitted to the Department of Mechanical Engineering College of Engineering University of the Philippines In Partial Fulfilment of the Requirements of ME 188 Power Plant Engineering Department of Mechanical Engineering College of Engineering University of the Philippines Diliman Quezon City December 2015 ii Abstract The study is aimed (1) to quantify the demand for fuel requirements and powerplant capacity in the province of Iloilo for the next 30 years, and (2) prioritize the energy sources, conversion technologies and powerplant sites available in the province. Electricity consumption from the five sectors (residential, commercial, transportation, industrial, and agricultural) were calculated using different models and assumptions. These values were projected to the year 2045 in order to predict the total electricity demand on the daily, weekly, monthly and yearly bases. There is an average of 262.28 MW demand from the computed consumptions which was translated to fuel requirements considering the existing, upcoming, decommissioning, and the reserve. A total of 284.77 MW plant capacity was calculated for 2045. Assuming that bituminous coal will be used as the main fuel for running a Coal-fired powerplant in the future, a fuel requirement of 12.25...

...THE PROPOSED 200-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Concepcion, Iloilo is on track in time for calls to put up additional electricity sources in the light of the acute power shortage in Mindanao. Iloilo Provincial Administrator Raul N. Banias said he met with top officials of Palm Concepcion Power Corp. (PCPC) in Metro Manila to discuss development status of the proposed coal-fired power plant project. A former mayor of Concepcion, Banias was instrumental in helping DM Consunji, Inc. (DMCI) Power Corp., the original proponent of the plant, in getting public acceptance for the power plant. Although the Department of Environment and Natural Resources already issued and environmental compliance certificate (ECC) to the project sometime in 2007, DMCI did not initiate construction after failing to secure power supple agreements with distribution utilities in Western Visayas. In November 2010, A. Brown Co., Inc. (ABCI), through subsidiaries Palm Thermal Consolidated Holdings Corp. and Panay Consolidated Holdings Corp., bought DMCI Power Corp.’s proposed coal-fired power plant in Concepcion. The new owners then formed subsidiary PCPC to spearhead the future construction and operation of the plant. ABCI is the investment arm of businessman Walter Brown which is primarily engaged in the business of real estate development but has interests in power, property development and investments in other companies. In February 2012, A. Brown announced that it has tapped BDO Capital and Investment...

...The Father of Kinaray-a Music By: Salvy Jessa M. Arnaiz Mr. Bernie Salcedo an Antiqueño from Anini-y, is known as the “Father of Kinaray-a Music” because he started the trend of composing Kinaray-a songs. Although he is a mechanical engineer, Salcedo loved to compose songs. He began writing Kinaray-a songs when he was just a teenager back in 1969. He composed Kinaray-a songs on his own and from his heart. His first composition was “Daw sa Kanami Lang” which talks about commitment through friendship and love and how it makes relationships worth keeping. It was then followed by “Mamingaw nga Mata”, a slow, soft, wistful song about the things and memories that we leave behind in the past and remember when we grow older. He also wrote a song for Antique’s hero, Evelio B. Javier, entitled “Ang Bata.” Salcedo got his inspiration on many subjects, themes and topics. He has written songs about his wife, on friendships, relationships and the sentimentalism of the Antiqueños as a people. He also tackles issues about the environment and social actualities like poverty and oppression. In 1977 he wrote the first part of trilogy about the history of Antique which he entitled “Maragtas.” In 1982, he wrote the second and third parts of the story. The musical was done from 1984-1988 and most songs were revised in 1998-1999 when the plot in the script was updated. Salcedo was also considered as the Father of Kinaray-a Music because he virtually influenced the Original Kinaray-a Music (OKM) writers...

...CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION Brief Background “Rice,” first used in the middle of the 13th century, undergoes a long journey on derivation of its name. It is written to have originated from the Old French, “ris,” which came from the Italian “riso,” which in turn from the Latin “oriza.” Despite having a series of appellation, rice is simply the seed of the monocot plants Oryzasativa (Asian rice) or Oryzaglaberrima (African rice), considered to be the most utterly consumed staple food for a vast portion of the world’s human population, specifically in Asia and the second-highest with the most number of production, after corn, based on the 2010 data of FAOSTAT, the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations. Notwithstanding the association, Oryzasativaand Oryzaglaberrimaare two different species. The former is more predominantly acknowledged than the latter because of its popularity in cereal biology. Great subspecies with variety of kinds have been widely generated because of its easy genetic modification for the reason that it contains the largest genome, consisting of 430 Mb across 12 chromosomes, among the cereal plant(Linares, 2002). One of its speciesis the sticky, short grained Japonica or Sinica variety, usually cultivated in dry fields, in temperate East Asia, upland areas of Southeast Asia and high elevations in South Asia. Second is the non-stick, long-grained Indica varietywhich is mainly lowland rice, grown mostly submerged, throughout tropical Asia...

...To analyze a firm’s costs, we have to take into account what type of firm it is, what sources of revenue are present and what choices have to be made in order to maximize profit. That is what we will be doing in analyzing the costs that The Daily Guardian incurs. The Daily Guardian is a daily newspaper based primarily in Iloilo City at the same time circulating in Manila, Capiz, Aklan and Bacolod. It’s a firm that has 2 sources of income. One is through the distribution of the paper itself and the other is through the publishing of ads and press releases. Both have a very particular relationship that a balance must be held in terms of the efforts of the firm. It’s true that the ads portion of the revenue greatly outmatches that of the subscriber distribution but the number of subscribers determine the number of people who want their business to be advertised in the paper. If efforts were shifted more to getting more advertisers rather than keeping and gaining more subscribers, there would be an opportunity cost incurred. Instead of gaining more subscribers, the firm would presumably gain more advertisers. Now the problem with that is, although more revenue can be generated with advertisements, advertisers would prefer to partner with papers that have many subscribers. It makes sense. They want word of their promos or events to reach the most number of people possible. But a firm doesn’t really just want to increase its gross profit but its net profit. Now how do we know which...

...villages, languages, cultures etc. Combining a country such complicated into five regions will definitely create problems on multiple levels. The administrative divisions in India are districts, talukas, blocks and then villages. This is followed in every state of India. Such a complicated hierarchy is already difficult to manage when the number of states are twenty nine, therefore the complicacy of this system will become three-fold when these twenty nine states are combined to form five regions because each state will have just one Chief Minister, so that person would now be responsible for the administration of almost 6 times the area he administers today. It would be similar to what Pakistan is facing right now, which created four provinces out of twenty six and it is facing same situation today. This would escalate to having problems in maintenance of law and order in the region. All states in India, today, have an official language. Same would be the case when the given proposal is accepted. When five regions are formed, there would be several languages being spoken in the same region. Choosing one language over others as official language will create conflict in different communities similar to that Tamil and Sinhalese communities in Sri Lanka. This is why the concept of linguistic states came up. It was done to promote better administration and to create a further sense of identity. Therefore, in my opinion, it is not in the best interest of the nation to erase border...

...Margarethe Nitzsche --- 345830/82 --- 23.09.2009 Italy The institution of Region in Italy and the case of Lombardy Assessed essay for the lecture “Italian Politics and European Integration” Supervisor: Prof. Rugge 1. The institution of Region The formation of the regional order in Italy had a revolutionary meaning, fated to scar a new era in the history of the Italian State. While drawing up the Constitution Project (from July, 20th 1946 to January, 31st 1947), the constituents were fully conscious of it and singled out the matter: the topic of autonomies was immediately identified with the one of the State’s structure, and there was tangible harmony, in the constituents’ opinion, between the problem of autonomies and the one of Region. 1 The initial position of the constituents was divided into those who were for the Region and those who were against – a ridge dividing the parties themselves. Two facts are to be pointed out: firstly, in the Commission there was an overrepresentation of Sicilians, Sardinians and Valle d’Aosta’s representatives, which influenced the Commission’s attitude towards the regional matter because of the cultural and historical reasons of the autonomy claimed by their areas; secondly, nearly all the parties placed in the Commission the most autonomist among their commissioners, evenly convinced that they were the most prepared on that topic. Another interesting element is that nobody defended the administrative centralizing thesis as a...
