The imagery used in Catch the Moon reveals Judith Ortiz Coffer’s purpose to persuade readers that beauty and character can inspire one to soften and improve their behavior. During the very end of the story, after searching for days, Luis finds Naomi’s hubcap, “It was the perfect match for Naomi’s drawing, the moon-shaped wheel cover for her car, Cinderella’s shoe.” The author refers to the hubcap as Cinderella’s shoe signifying that by finding Naomi’s hubcap, Luis has discovered the key to her heart and he loves her. This is similar to when the Prince found Cinderella’s shoe and once returned to her they fell in love instantly. In addition, the reference to Cinderella’s glass slipper symbolizes that Naomi is as pure and sincere as Cinderella.
