“Mommy Tasi pulled my hair!" "I want some cookies now mommy!". I am a happy mother in the mid-thirties who is playing with my 02 little kids before leaving for the 10-year ceremony of the DSU-MBA Course in Vietnam. It’s already 10 years since 2010. Time really flies! Looking back on the last 10 years, I am so happy with the all the wonderful achievements I had and the right decisions I made for my life.
The first major milestone would be my MBA degree in 2012. The program itself provided me not only a range of new skills and business knowledge, but more importantly a “bigger picture” understanding, a different view on the world, which I found very helpful in all the jobs I have been doing until now. The degree also played an important part in the evolution of my career. After six years working at Cisco, an IT company, I moved to Ford Motor as the Marketing Manager in 2013 with a total new business environment in a consumer market. My following 4 years in Ford gave me opportunities to further practice the skills I learnt from this MBA course, especially the strategic thinking and leadership skill.
The second key achievement I made was the decision to open my very own business, “Gam Restaurant” in 2017. I still remember the early days with a lot of challenges and how difficult it was for me to decide to leave a multinational company for this private business. I have learnt many good lessons along the way to bring the restaurant become one of the best choice of Vietnamese food in town and then to open the 2nd “Gam Restaurant” today. A look back to the past 03 years, I think my biggest “secret” is “Passion”. Passion for the good, passion to learn, passion to grow people… and passion to be the best. I am so proud of the passionate team who has been working together with me for the brand of “Gam Restaurant”.
Last but not least, during the past 10 years a little “miracle” happened to me. I got a family with a great husband and 02 little angles calling me “Mom”. I call this a “miracle” because I feel that I am so lucky to have them. We have been through all the paths of life together, visiting Europe and South Africa which have always been my dream since college, running charity programs for the unfortunate kids in Hanoi, and developing the restaurant business. I am so proud of my family and they really give me strength in achieving my goals.
There are many things to remember over the last 10 years. Looking back at all the paths and achievements I have made, I realize that true happiness is found along the way. I do have some plans for the next 10 years. I never know the future; life can change on a moment’s notice. However, I believe in using the talents, gifts and blessings I have been given to make plans to take steps to achieve great things — one step at a time. I am enjoying the entire process.
