...The Impact of HR Focused TQM Practices on Employee Satisfaction & Loyalty in the Financial Sector of Pakistan Burhan Nawaz Butt, Aamir Daraz, Nauman Imtiaz, Junaid Jameel, Ali Raza, Zunair Akram, Tauqeer Ahmad, Farhat Abbas, Israr Khan Niazi, Javeria Mehmood, Irum Naz Department of Management Sciences, Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Islamabad, Pakistan Abstract: Introduction: * Research Objectives: * Financial Sector of Pakistan: Literature Review: * TQM and its Importance: It has been argued that the use of TQM practices has a synergistic impact on organizational performance (Schonberger, 1986; Cobb, 1993). Some studies have found that the use of TQM practices reduces manufacturing process variance, eliminates reworks and scraps, and improves quality performance (see Daniel and Reitsperger (1991), Flynn et al. (1995) and Schmenner and Cook (1985). In addition, there is considerable anecdotal evidence (Crosby, 1984; Hayes and Wheelwright, 1984; Gerwin, 1987; Harmon and Peterson, 1990) on the extent to which TQM initiatives enhance the potential for firms to improve their performance. More recently, empirical evidence suggests that there are direct and indirect relationships between the adoption of TQM practices and firms’ performance levels (Hendricks and Singhal, 2001; Kaynak, 2003). Fortune 1000 companies surveyed indicated that firms achieved greatest success when they pursued both TQM and employment involvement simultaneously. Kevin...

...Journal of Operations Management 17 Ž1998. 59–75 The TQM Paradox: Relations among TQM practices, plant performance, and customer satisfaction Thomas Y. Choi ) , Karen Eboch Department of Management, College of Business Administration, Bowling Green State UniÕersity, Bowling Green, OH 43403-0270, USA Received 14 January 1997; accepted 17 November 1997 Abstract We empirically examine a mediational model of TQM, in which TQM practices have a direct impact on customer satisfaction and an indirect impact mediated through plant performance. We adopt a survey approach using the data from 339 manufacturing companies. We first establish convergent validity, discriminant validity, and reliability of the constructs. We then examine the model using LISREL 8.10. The results suggest paradoxical relations among TQM practices, plant performance, and customer satisfaction. TQM practices have a stronger impact on customer satisfaction than they do on plant performance. Further, the plant performance, as described in the mediational model, fails to show a significant impact on customer satisfaction. This observation is explained based on an institutional argument that states that loose coupling may occur between TQM practices designed for customer demands and the activities on the plant floor designed for plant performance. q 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. ...1.0Title THE IMPACT OF TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT (TQM) ON CUSTOMER SATISFACTION AND COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE The proposed title for this research study is The Impact of Total Quality Management (TQM) to achieve competitive advantage in the Hospitality Sector. The research will give a background of information and literature review on TQM practices and how it enhances customer satisfaction by offering effective customer service. It will present various methodologies and approaches that will be used to achieve the research objectives. Total quality management has been evolving in the hospitality business since quality assurance was introduced in the 1980s (Breiter et al 1995) 2.0. Introduction The hospitality industry is a service based industry as services are produced and consumed in real time and are inherently variable – from customer to customer, from provider to provider and from time to time for the same customer and/or the same provider (John 2003). Total quality management (TQM) in the hospitality industry has risen to amazing levels due to preferences, customer behavior and competition to retain and attract new customers. This has resulted in the demand for quality service thus necessitating the need to implement TQM strategies to have a competitive edge over other players in the industry. Acceptance of TQM strategies in the hospitality industry (Raj Kumar, 2005), with service quality being an important factor for growth and survival is an integral part to achieve success...

...strategic maritime objectives. Research for this report includes evaluating the application on Lean and Total Quality Management (TQM) in logistics and supply chain networks to achieve Maritime Port Authority (MPA) objectives such as quality of service, competitiveness, reliability and efficiency. The major findings shows that lean implementation improves processing times achieving more work in less staff time and bringing services up to standard. (Radnor, Walley, Stephens, & Bucci, 2006). It also changes the focus of management from optimizing separate technologies, assets, and vertical departments to optimizing the flow of products and services through entire value streams that flow horizontally across technologies, assets, and departments to customers. Lean helps to eliminate waste along entire value streams, instead of at isolated points, creates processes that need less human effort, less space, less capital, and less time to make products and services at far less costs and with much fewer defects, compared with traditional business systems. Also, it requires keeping far less than half the needed inventory on site, results in many fewer defects and produces a greater and ever growing variety of productions. TQM Management can be a tool to support and create synergy for inducing a more competitive market among companies. Total quality management (TQM) may be considered as a management approach to long term success through continuous improvements in customer satisfaction...

University of Baroda, Vadodara, India Abstract Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present a set of total quality management (TQM) and supply chain management (SCM) practices through an extensive literature review and to identify the relationships among them by comparing the identified TQM and SCM practices. Design/methodology/approach – An extensive overview of the practices of TQM and SCM is carried out using published research papers and some major TQM and SCM practices were extracted. These identified practices are then compared to explore the relationship between them for better understanding and application. Findings – The results reveal six major TQM and SCM practices from as many as 50 TQM practices and 40 SCM practices. The paper further compares these practices and found that management support and commitment, customer focus, and supplier partnership are the most common practices found in both TQM and SCM literature, and have the strongest impact in the integration of TQM and SCM across organizations. Research limitations/implications – This paper focuses only on the literature review of previously published studies, further empirical study can be undertaken using these six identified practices which may allow...

...TQM and Performance in small medium enterprises The mediating effect of customer orientation and innovation 1. Literature Review The relationship between total quality management and performance The instrumental Role played by TQM in the assessment of production activities, in the standardization of processes and training, in competitive benchmarking, in measuring results and in increasing employee accountability has had the net effect of bringing down costs of defects and rework, reducing supervision and maintenance costs, managing inventory levels and stimulating innovation. Proponents of TQM maintained that if organizations of any size implemented it efficiently, they may generate many benefits including high quality products, reduced costs, improved communications, team work, customer and employee satisfaction and improved financial performance. It was found that firms which had effectively implemented a TQM environment outperformed non-TQM firms on measures such as profitability, revenues, costs, capital expenditure, total assets and employee turnover. Therefore, it is hypothesized that : H1. The higher the total quality management (TQM) implementation, the greater the performance of the firm. The relationship between TQM and consumer orientation Improving quality by itself is not sufficient, what matters is enhancing the customer’s perception of quality. This is particularly important since many quality improvement efforts have been criticized...

...TQM Research Paper Introduction The past two decades have witnessed the rise and fall of countless short-lived fads. Some have attracted a flurry of book, articles, and seminars; others have been completely discredited. Businesses have realized that there is a need to restructure their business practices and become more customer-focused. All recent business approaches and techniques have generally aimed at improving performance, increasing profits, gaining market share, and most importantly satisfying the customer who has become more educated and more demanding than ever. In the last two decades two organizational development models have dominated the business world for a considerable period of time namely Total Quality Management (TQM) and Business Process Reengineering (BPR). Statement of Objective This paper aims to shed a novel light on the two most recent and prominent management approaches, namely TQM and BPR. In an attempt to examine the interaction between radical BPR and incremental TQM with respect to change management, I shall briefly discuss the two constructs and contemplate the roots and basic tenets that underlie each. BPR has been referred to in the literature as “the successor” of TQM and has been treated as an equal. I shall treat the similarities and common grounds among the two, as well as the differences between them. Next, I shall touch upon the weaknesses and highlights that distinguish each, and then move on to construct an integrated model in an...
