Impact of Slowdown to Asia

...1. The impact of slowdown to Asia – economic variables, import and export of Asia The degree of impact of China’s slowdown on Malaysian companies vary depending on the price competitiveness, availability of substitution, type of business and the management’s ability to minimise the impact (Malaysia Chronicle, 2015). 1. Export The slowdown in China’s economy will ultimately impact Malaysia’s exports demand. China is Malaysia’s second largest export market, accounting for 15 percent of its export economy (Springfield, n.d.), Malaysia-China two-way trade topped $100 billion in 2014 (Kurlantzick, 2015). Both goods and services industries are affected in line with slowdown in China’s domestic demand, namely key export products such as electronic component, transport equipment and palm oil, manufacturing sector; and services industries including trading, shipping and tourism which are externally oriented (Singapore Business Review, 2013). Slowdown in China’s economic growth also weakened its currency, thus consumers will consumed more locally-produced goods as imported goods becomes more expensive (Kok, 2015). 2. Import 1% drop in China’s growth rate is due to 4% appreciation in RMB as an act of shifting demand from export to consumption and 1% increase in wage. As labour cost and RMB becomes more expensive, China exports price rises, thus Malaysia import price increases, contributing to capital outflow and increased CPI (Bokyeong, n.d.). 3. Growth The fall in exports...

...Malaysian Airlines: A Business Turnover Name: Course: Instructor: Date: Malaysian Airlines: A Business Turnover Summary Malaysia Airlines ranks among the top government-run agencies in Malaysia. The organization is the national carrier for the country flying to over 100 destinations in six continents across the world. It is based at the Kuala Lampur International Airport where its core operations are run, and recent statistics indicate that it has the strongest influence in East and south Asia regions. However, it is also important to note that its influence is also growing in Europe and Australia, which technocrats believe to be the growing influence in the kangaroo routes leading to Australia and the pacific (Alamdari & Fagan, 2005). The organization has undergone tremendous changes to position itself strategically in the rapidly changing world of air transport. and political stability.” Since 1970s FDI inflows increased in Malaysia reaching its peak around the 1990s and since then fluctuating and recently experiencing outflows of foreign funds. (TheGlobalEconomy, 2016). The objective of this essay is to discuss factors influencing a decrease in FDI in Malaysia. Slow economic growth is one of the factors that have affected FDI in Malaysia. According to Hill, Cronk & Wickramasekera (2013), “Economic growth is an increase in the productive capacity and national output of a country, measured by the rate of increase of GDP”. China being Malaysia’s second biggest export market after Singapore has a direct impact on the Malaysian economy. (Hui, 2014). Because of a lower economic growth in China, demand for Malaysian goods and services have declined in the Chinese market. This resulted in a fall in the Malaysia’s trade balance of RM 4.2bil in December 2015. (Aruna, 2016). Export growth, identified as a major component of economic growth in Malaysia has eventually had an impact on the economy. (Lonik, 2006).
