...Implementing New Technology: Success or Failure Taira D. McJimson University of Phoenix Implementing New Technology: Success or Failure In an effort to make this company more competitive within our industry I have decided to implement a few new technology solutions to improve our communication, productivity, accountability and profitability. Through several steps I will insure that all parties involved are comfortable with this pending change. Tech research, group discussion, IT feed-back, tech implementation, training, and support all play a part. Know your Tech The first part of implementing any new technology is to research the technology. Often times managers or other administrative members go out and purchase technology without a full understanding of its uses or what benefit it has for their particular organization, I will not fall into this trap as I will do all the research necessary to determine the best course of action. Several factors are needed to determine the tech needs and the products ability to meet those needs. Accessibility is important due to the fact that no technology is viable if the people who need it cannot access it. Having a laptop on your desk does you no good if you’re on the road (Salvatore). The ability for important information to be correctly sent and received depends on the accessibility of the technology. In this respect I will look for lightweight portable devices that will be easy to carry and provide the connections that we need....

...IT Project Implementation Failures Input your name here Health Care Information Systems /HCS483 Input instructors name here Input date here IT Project Implementation Failures When an organization implements new information technology systems there are many steps that an organization should follow. If the steps are not followed correctly an organization could leave out the necessary steps or try to make short-cuts resulting in failure of implementing the new information technology system. There are 5 main reasons that cause information technology system to fail, which includes poor clarity of the project, poor leadership, lack of candor in the organization, initiatives undernourishments, and implementing untested systems instead of using systems that have been proven to be successful. Poor Clarity It is extremely important that an organization clearly states what the new project is about and what is expected out of the employees paying close attention to providing everyone with the organizations goals when implementing the new information technology system. When an organization lacks clarity when implementing a new project the organization will have employees that do not understand the new project and how it will benefit the employees and the organization (Wager, 2007). Poor Leadership According to Wager (2007), “leaders are in charge of time management, organization, and planning as well as making sure that the budget is set to accomplish goals...

...January 13, 2014 Introduction There takes a great deal of time, and much planning, when implementing the process of selecting and acquiring an information system (IS) in a health care organization. This process may vary from organization to organization, but still remains highly crucial to the success of the organization. Medical professionals must be informed on the details prior to beginning the process of acquiring an information system, how the organization’s goals drive the selection process and the roles each organization’s stakeholders play in the selection and acquisition process. One of the most important decisions to be made is whether to choose between outsourcing the information system and/or to bring in Information Technology (IT) technicians to work within the organization. The considering organization must ask, “What expense are we willing to spend on implementing this new process and what are the benefits from each choice, outsourcing or in house?” The answers from these two questions will help guide the organization into the correct direction of implementing a new information system. “In the health sector, the incorporation of new medical technologies brings new challenges for IT managers to gather more and more information about patients.” (Correia, Chiodoni, Dalfovo, Silva, Teske, 2013) Goals should be set as to what is wanted and needed out of this new information system. Listed should include the goals of employees individually and as a whole, the...

...Technology Impact Paper TEC/401 Human Factors in Technology May 14, 2012 Technology Impact Paper Technology is a fundamental part of our lives; from the largest urban areas to remote populations, we rely on technology to live and work. As our dependence on technology grows, so does our thirst for innovation. As emerging technologies are introduced to the market, users respond with both adulation and acceptance. Although our tech-savvy society eagerly anticipates new technological releases; at times there can be a resistance to innovation. The impact of technology on consumers can be affected by several variables. The method of introduction of the technology to customers, the added value of the technology relative to the technology currently being utilized, the support plan emplaced to address questions and concerns from customers and the importance of new partnerships with technology partners each plays an important role in how technology impacts clients. The method of introduction of new products to customers can be the defining characteristic of a brand; strategically marketed product launches can foster anticipation for new technology. Conversely, radically implemented or poorly released products, (regardless of their value) can be met with opposition. The impact of a poorly introduced product can be greatly affected by the method of introduction. Introduction foul-ups occur when the organization has not clearly defined their respective audience; additional...

...Individual Assignment Technology Implementation Gustavo A. Matus Tec 401 July 11, 2012 Instructor: Summiya Mahdi, MBA/TM University of Phoenix Today’s economy has a very large impact on how and when companies or organizations implement new technologies, the order of the day is how to reduce cost by al means necessary and that perspective in most of the times involved personnel reduction. This approach and bad business practice has been applied for many years; but now a day with the technological advancements it is possible to modify that approach by maximizing capacity and efficiency and staying on top with state of the art technology that will boost the vision and mission of any particular company. According to Reagan, E. A., & O'Connor, B. N. (2002), “the premise here is that IT has the potential to increase performance in more ways than simply enabling work to be done faster and/or more easily”. “IT can support better communications, more informed decisions, and worker creativity”. (p.296) Now a day not only we are able to be more effective and efficient with new technology but we also have the ability to be mobile, with the use of new technology, employees have the option to work from home or also keep working on a project. The world of high-tech communication also has provide us with a great tool which are our smart phones, the communication process becomes uninterrupted and the distance barriers are not longer in place because on the digital highway...

...1. What types of technology could big retailers use to prevent identity thieves from purchasing merchandise? They could use the Authentication and authorization technologies that can help the big retailers to identify if the user that logged in is the real user. The new technology such as biometrics would not allow a person to have access once it recognizes the user’s either voice or face or iris or handwriting. This piece of technology is much more accurate to identify theft since the simple logins or passwords could be stolen so easily. If the retailer notices any suspicious information on his system, he should immediately contact the customer either through email or phone to verify if it was the correct user or not. 2. What can organizations do to protect themselves from hackers looking to steal account data? The man, who downloaded all the data freely by sitting outside a Best Buy Store, can do much with the social security numbers of the people he received. Identity theft has been just such a major issue. Once someone is trapped in it, it is just terribly hard to prove that you were innocent. The first step in information security is people. People should be acknowledged about the threats of using online software, how to avoid them, about phishing and pharming. The second step is technology including: Authentication and authorization Prevention and resistance - content filtering, encryption, firewalls Detection and response - antivirus software 3. What...

...Information System Briefing The process of selecting and acquiring an information system (IS) takes a great deal of time and a lot of planning. Each organization is different and must be able to suit their needs in order for them to be successful. An organization must decide if it wants to outsource their IS or to bring in information technology (IT) to work within the facility. But before an organization can even think about what system they want to implement they must be able to ask a couple of questions that will be able to narrow it down to what they need. First, the organization must ask “What expense are we willing to spend on implementing this new process and what are the benefits from each choice, outsourcing or in house?” (Hicks, N.D.). By answering these questions honestly, it will give the organization a better understanding of selecting an IS. Secondly, an organization must set up goals as to what it wants and needs in the new system. Within these goals should be listed the wants of the employees, the goals from the senior management level and all participating physicians, and of course the goals needed to achieve patient satisfaction. By having these goals established will give a better idea of what the organization needs to focus on to achieve maximum results. An organization’s strategic goals can influence what type of IS they will get. It heavily depends on what they need it for, what are they trying to accomplish, and to decide to either outsource or keep...

As such, implementation of innovation technology is often a complex task that involves careful planning. In essence, the technological innovation aims at making a healthcare facility attain the status of high reliability organizations (HRO). One of the main challenges that healthcare organization report, when adopting a new technology, lies in the implementing of the decision to acquire a new technology. Managers employ different strategies in implementing decisions at their organizations; the success of these decisions is dependent on the chosen decision approach. Thakur, Hsu, and Fontenot (2011) observed that managers...

People are spending their money in other areas and less in tourism and retail activity. As a result, this generated less sales tax revenue. To offset the budget deficit, the California Legislature passed a bill requiring cities to transfer 20% of their gross property tax revenues to the state. The city is looking for ways to save money and one of those areas is technology. It is impossible to eliminate technology such as computers all together because it’s a big part of the city daily operations. One of the potential options is virtualization of city’s physical servers, storage devices, and end user computers would result in significant savings in cost to the city of Seabreeze.
