Learning about different perspectives and biases will influence my life by helping me ask questions about everything around me. This course has shown me how biases can be present without you even noticing. Even though I like to think I am a kind person, I too have implicit bias. If I see a person that looks rude I will keep my distance, but at times people that look mean really aren't. It is a small judgement but I can still work on that it. Another topic that caught my interest was comfort foods and with the research provided it shows that people believe that comfort foods provide them with mood benefits, comfort foods do not provide comfort beyond that of other foods. I can use what I've learned about comfort foods and try to stay away from

Survey of Coffee Outlets

...Contents Final Project Report 1 Table of Contents 2 Background and Problem Statement 3 Methodology 4 Issues With Questionnaire 5 Questionnaire 5 Analysis 8 Results 9 Conclusion 15 Background and Problem Statement Coffee consumption in India has gradually increased in India over the years .Though it has been traditionally consumed in South India today urban India seems to be keen on greater consumption of coffee. To meet this requirement we see several coffee chains opening up around India. Coffee chains throughout the world position themselves as not just restaurants but places to for the youth to spend time, executives to complete work and in general create a more relaxed atmosphere which is not entirely focused on the food/drinks being consumed. Over the last 15 years India has seen large increase in the number of coffee chains. This can be attributed to the rising affordability among the Indian youth and urban middle class. Thus several players have entered the market and attract customers based on varied brand propositions. Café Coffee Day is a division of India's largest coffee conglomerate, Amalgamated Bean Coffee Trading Company Ltd. (ABCTCL). ABCTCL grows coffee in its own estates of 10,000 acres. The company is known for being vertically integrated to cut costs: from owning the plantations, growing the coffee, making the coffee machines to making the furniture for the outlets. It was named "most popular hangout joint amongst youth" at the 3rd Global...

Introduction to Psychology

...TPS 101: INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY TPS 101 serves as the beginning course in psychology; as such, it is broad in scope. The course will introduce students to the history of psychology, and current paradigms and theories. We will cover neuroscience, sensation, perception, memory, and language, stress and health psychology, personality and social psychology, intelligence, and developmental psychology. Because of time limitations, none of these topics can be covered in great depth. The reference textbooks and the material presented in class will serve as the primary sources for the material to be covered. INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY OF PSYCHOLOGY Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and mental processes. It is an academic and applied discipline involving the scientific study of mental processes and behaviour. Psychology also refers to the application of such knowledge to various spheres of human activity, including problems of individuals' daily lives and the treatment of mental illness. It is largely concerned with humans, although the behaviour and mental processes of animals can also be part of psychology research, either as a subject in its own right (e.g. animal cognition and ethnology), or somewhat more controversially, as a way of gaining an insight into human psychology by means of comparison (including comparative psychology). Origins of the psychology Near the end of 19th century things started drawing together. Questions raised by philosophers were being...

Financial Disclosure Management

...Financial Disclosure Management by Nonprofit Organizations1 Ranjani Krishnan, Michelle H. Yetman, Robert J. Yetman* Eli Broad College of Business, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI 48824. Tippie College of Business, The University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA 52240 ______________________________________________________________________________ Abstract This paper examines how nonprofit organizations respond to incentives to manage their publicly available financial information. Prior research identifies two operating ratios donors commonly use to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of nonprofits (i.e., the program service ratio, defined as the fraction of total expenses committed to advancing the charitable mission of the organization, and the fundraising ratio, defined as the ratio of fundraising expenses to donations revenue). Nonprofit managers have an incentive to over-report the expenses classified as program services and under-report the expenses classified as administrative and fundraising in order to improve these ratios. We examine whether nonprofits respond to these incentives, and we find evidence consistent with opportunistic cost shifting to improve the program service and fundraising ratios. Additional analysis finds that smaller nonprofits that are more reliant on donations revenue manipulate their operating ratios to a greater extent. Rhetorical modes simply mean the ways in which we can effectively communicate through language. This chapter covers nine common rhetorical modes. As you read about these nine modes, keep in mind that the rhetorical mode a writer chooses depends on his or her purpose for writing. Sometimes writers incorporate a variety of modes in one essay. A fictional story is a made-up, or imagined, story; the writer of a fictional story can create characters and events as he or she sees fit. Though for decades together, marketers have regarded ‘customer’ as the king and evolved all activities to satisfy this concept is gaining more momentum and importance today. This can largely be attributed to the prevailing market situation. Not only competition has become intense but over an above with the market being flooded with many products. The challenge before the marketers is to understand the diversity of consumer behavior and offer goods and services accordingly. Today the company image is built and made known by its customers.
