On one end of the spectrum, Empiricism focuses on knowledge that is obtained through experience; on the contrary, rationalism strongly believes that knowledge is independently gained (Markie, 2013). Thus, the two opposing views continue generate controversy on the topic of scientific observations. In response to this weeks reading, I have chosen to reaffirm my position that both rationalism and empiricism are important for building scientific knowledge, and that empiricism...

...Assignment 1 The article “Diamonds in the Data Mine” specifically discusses the use of data analytics by Gary Loveman in generating data-driven marketing strategies for Harrah's Entertainment to increase its revenues. When other companies concentrated in constructing costly offerings, Harrah's used data to find patterns and solutions to improve each customer's satisfaction. Harrah's Entertainment used database marketing and decision-science based tools to gain competitive advantage. Using the data analytics, they proved one of the fundamentals of the casino business wrong i.e., treating one customer differently than they treat another. Without data analytics, this would not have been possible. Also, linking customer satisfaction with the workers scores. This attempt by Harrah has improved the customer service scores and successively improved customer loyalty. Overall the article discusses the importance of data analytics in a business to generate customer-centered marketing strategies. The article “Data Scientist: The Sexiest Job of the 21st Century” talks over the gaining importance of a data scientist in an organization. It explains the unique as well as collective skills they hold to perform their tasks. They are a new breed of scarce professionals who are in very high demand for companies wrestling with data. Data scientists are creative in data visualization and making the patterns they find clear and compelling. They are given freedom to work with the rest of the business...

...CHAPTER ONE 1.0 Introduction The invaluable role and contributions of education as an instrument for development and promotion of an individual, social, economic, political and cultural development of any nation can never be over-emphasized. According to Abdulkareem (2007), a nation’s growth and development is determined by its human resources. Science has been defined as an organized body of knowledge, a method of solving problems and it also serves as a search of explanation of natural objects and phenomena. In the demesne of science as a whole, one important dialect is Biology, the domain of living things and its environment. According to Encyclopedia Americana (Vol. 3, P770), “few sciences have contributed to the philosophy and physical basis of contemporary society than Biology has”. Man, probably was a biologist before he was anything else, his own health body in health and illness, the phenomena of birth, growth, and death of the plants and other animals that give him food, shelter and clothing undoubtedly were matters of serious concern to man then and even now. Biology is intimately connected to daily life and everybody’s life-long planning. Shut out Biology from daily life and civilization comes to a standstill. It is in the light of this, that the research seeks to build and elicit among students and teachers the proper appreciation and interest in the value of Biology to the individual and to the society at large. This subject Biology, occupies a very important...

...The importance of science education for children Published 03/11/2008 Science Communication 17 Comments Tags: Science Education One of the features of wordpress is a list of what web searches have led people to your blog (or at least hits anyway) and they themselves can be fascinating glimpses into what people are interested in or what information on (mostly Tyrannosaurus and Jurassic Park). A recent one was the title of this post and it is a very interesting question (precisely it was “what is the importance of teaching science to children?”). Apart from the fundamental answer (well, everyone should know a bit about biology, chemistry and physics, much as they should know a bit about history, geography, art and maths) it is a good question. What does science bring to the table? It’s hard to put in specific terms, but science as a concept (as opposed to just learning facts and theories, or heating stuff in test tubes) has some nice ideas to offer that would be useful for many people to learn and would be useful throughout their lives. Concepts such as logical deductions and inference, parsimony, and not accepting arguments (or dismissals) based on authority but from evidence, and scepticism would all be handy. Teaching someone how to appraise and evaluate conflicting evidence and any bias in that evidence would be useful ‘life skills’ for pretty much everyone. Let’s face it, it ultimately comes down to trying to spot patterns, work out reasons for them, and to spot errors...

...The importance of science and the ways of expressing scientific ways of life to the world. The start of scientific rules and the ways to explain the methods it follows .Science is based on methods that explain the way science goes on around the world and what is the importance of it that helps people understand things beyond imagination (Thomas Samuel Kuhn). The scientific ways of expressing the world and how it generates based on its history. The importance of science, the scientific methods, and the scientific expression of how the world generates based on its history are the three major descriptions of science. One of the important facts about science is the start of scientific rules and the way to explain the methods it follows (See Appendix 1). Science is based on the knowledge that humans have to know the mystery behind things that cover the truth behind something. Science has many rules that have been passed on by one of the greatest scientists that discovered the ways of life and things that were not predictable. The scientific method is a procedure of six steps they are stating the problem, collecting information, forming a hypothesis, performing experiments, analyzing the data (Alhazen), and making a conclusion. The first step to the scientific method is to stat the problem in which you wish to Answer. The second step is collecting information on the question answered. Making observations and study the things on the question you have more knowledge on the problem...

...Life Science Journal 2013;10(4s) http://www.lifesciencesite.com Managing Competitiveness using Production Volumes - Product Variety Model for Automobile Industry Mirza Jahanzaib, Syed Athar Masood, Khalid Akhtar, Khurram Ali Industrial Engineering Department, University of Engineering & Technology, Taxila, Pakistan * jahan.zaib@uettaxila.edu.pk ABSTRACT: The manufacturing industries can be classified into process industry (PI) and discrete parts manufacturing industry (DPMI). Process industries have dedicated product line with fixed processes, routings and planning, whereas while discrete parts manufacturing industries are more flexible in terms of production volumes and varieties. For economic manufacturing, the optimum combination of Volume – Variety exists i.e. job shop, batch production system or mass production. In this paper, we have looked at the typical production volumes and varieties and have argued that there exist very low variety and low to medium production volumes for this particular sector. This calls for investigating ways and strategies to effectively cope with this situation. By taking a case of automobile part vendors triple strategy approach is adopted. Three strategies are not mutually exclusive – a subsequent strategy assumes that the previous strategy has been executed earlier and its benefits/ results still exist when the subsequent strategy is implemented. Strategies are, Good Governance Strategy (GGS), an Automation Strategy (AS) and an Export...

...answer the question, "What's happening in my environment that will affect my future?" Scanning involves identifying the issues and trends that have important implications for the future. The scanning includes analysis of the information about these issues and trends to assess their importance and determine their implications for planning and strategic decision making. What is it? Discover emerging trends of strategic importance. Scanning is different from ordinary information gathering in that it is concerned primarily with the future, emerging trends, and issues that have strategic importance for your organization. Gather information from variety of sources. It involves gathering information from publications, conferences, personal and organizational networks, experts and scholars, market research, and any source that appears to be useful. Organizations may have formal, continuous processes for scanning, with a permanent unit of the organization responsible. Or the effort may be episodic and organized in an ad hoc manner. Analyze data for planning purposes. Simply gathering the environmental data is insufficient. It is also necessary for you to interpret the data correctly and make it useful for planning and decision making. What is it good for? Take advantage of opportunities. Environmental scanning can help capitalize on emerging opportunities. It can be an important part of strategic planning by helping you shape strategy to better...
