As Durentha Hines watched her son walk across the stage to receive his degree. It was a joyous time but the thought of her own dreams not being accomplished crossed her mind. At that moment, she made a promise to herself that no matter what her dream was going to become a reality. Going back to college in obtaining her degree was happening no matter what it took.

After high school, Hines started college and quickly decided against it. She wanted to get married and start a family, in which she did.

Looking back now Hines would have preferred to get her degree before starting a family. Although, the love she has for her family is undeniable. She feels as though it would have been a lot easier. The guilt of not spending enough time with her family would not be a concern, as well as being able to take more classes.

I knew there would be numerous tasks to accomplish. I knew assignments, research papers, and test would all take a great deal of my time, but the empty feeling of not completing what I started weighed heavier than any assignment or test ever could”, said Hines.
