The role of transitional jobs to fresh graduates
Definition of terms
Transitional jobs – short term subsidized jobs aimed at getting marginalized workers into the productive workforce.
Fresh graduates – person who has successfully completed a degree course at a university or college and has received a certificate that shows this.
Introduction
Transitional jobs are on the rapid increase in our society today. It is what most people prefer as a means of survival and daily upkeep. For fresh graduates who are unable to secure a job immediately, working in a transitional job can be the next best thing to permanent employment. The roles of transitional jobs to fresh graduates are as follows:
Good relations with people - in the workplace, the graduate is able to meet with people from different spheres of life and hence form a team which may enhance their relation. It prepares him/her on how to cope with people in the near future
Defines his/her career path – this is due to the fact that it is not exactly what the graduate trains for that he/she might eventually end up doing
Bridge the gap between theory and practice – the graduate is able to put all that he/she has learned in college or university as theory into practice.
Gives him/her opportunity to serve the community – the graduate is able to handle diverse issues affecting the community.
Gain income for survival – the graduate is able to fetch income to boost him before he gets a stable job, thus it helps him to budget well for his future needs.
Boosts their self-esteem and confidence – by the time the graduate defines his career path, he would be in a better position to tackle any task.
Gives them a sense of responsibility – the graduate will be able to know how to relate with people, he will be aware on how to solve issues confidently and accurately. It equips graduates with knowledge and skills such as budget skills, teamwork skills among others which they might have not acquired while in college.

This study, the second undertaken by ICRIER on the retail industry, attempts to rigorously analyse the impact of organized retailing on different segments of the economy. No distinction has been made between foreign and domestic players, in analyzing the impact of the increasing trend of large corporates entering the retail trade in the country.
