...VIETNAM: FOOD PROCESSING In the past 15 years Vietnam was grown from a net importer of food to a substantial exporter. It is the world's second most important exporter of rice, and the world's largest coffee exporter and producer of cashew nuts. Tea, peppers, nuts and spices have become important exports. Rice and coffee account for about half of agricultural export revenues. Soybeans, cashews, sugar cane, peanuts, bananas, poultry, fish and seafood are growing. Vietnam's agricultural exports are vulnerable to international price fluctuations because these exports are largely commodity based. Vietnam's agricultural fishing and forestry industries together produce over US$3 billion of goods annually. Roughly 55% of Vietnam's workforce is employed in agriculture. Commensurate with economic development, the sector had gone from a 25% share of GDP to less than 20% in 2008. Farm products accounted for 22% of the country's income in 2008, down sharply from 50% in 2005. Finally 17% of all of its exports are related to the agricultural, fisheries or food processing industries, down from 55% in 2006. Despite the trend, agriculture will continue to be very important as it raises the productivity of the 70% of Vietnam's population that lives in rural areas. Traditionally, Vietnam has protected agricultural market with regulations and high tariffs. Vietnam's WTO accession reduced tariffs and led to sharp increases in imports ($7.3 billion in agricultural goods by 2008). Key agricultural...

...evaluating the clean-up and vacating of the event, my personal opinion on how the event went and also other the opinion of other people who participated in the event. Task 1 When we first organised the event and booked the location, we were told the times in which we must arrive and leave the premises. We had specific times to arrive and leave because a lot of locations are very busy and need to make sure they can fit in as many clients as possible throughout the day. The times that they gave us were so they could clean up and be ready for the next customers within the right amount of time. With this in mind we were able to give the coach driver that we booked an exact time of when we had to be picked up from the college and from the Delta Force. We had to book transport to the venue as the event was in Cardiff and also there were a lot of people attending this event so travelling all together on the coach made it much easier to do a register and see who was missing. After we had finished with the venue, we had to make sure that all of our rubbish was cleared and all equipment borrowed from the venue was given back to them in the condition that they were given in. It was our responsibility to clear up any rubbish by putting it in the bins provided and also to give back the overalls, guns and helmets. Although we must clean up after ourselves, it is not our responsibility to do any clearing up at the venue further such as clearing the bins or washing the equipment. These...

...SkyWest, Inc. and the Regional Airline Industry in 2009 Julia Whitaker HPU: MGMT 4001 SkyWest Inc. is an independently owned airline company. They own two regional airlines, SkyWest (with focus on west coast) and Atlantic Southeast Airlines or ASA (with focus on east coast). Regional airlines usually conduct their business one of two ways: 1. Under a major network airline, using the network airlines brand name, regional airlines fly customers from smaller communities to larger airports. They also supplement the mainline market when demand doesn’t require large aircraft. 2. Regional airlines also conduct their own flights serving as commuter airlines for business travelers needing to travel between small communities and larger cities. As many other regional airlines, SkyWest Inc. earns most of its revenue by partnering up with the larger network airlines. In this type of partnership, regional airlines typically receive a contracted departure fee and are sometimes offered incentives for airline performance such as being on time. The airline industry is vulnerable in many ways. They have vulnerability to market changes, fuel costs, regulations, weather, and customer preferences. Being a smaller company also puts them at risk of being disenfranchised by the larger, network airlines. In 2006, regional airlines had some of the worst on time records in the industry. They also had six out of seven worst records for cancelled flights. My analysis has shown that...

...ranked seventh among the top global oil producing companies for year 2012 by Forbes (Christopher Helman 2012). Despite its prominent reputation and its claimed aim of achieving the worldwide energy demand in a responsible manner, it does negate the fact their business operations have impacted the environment of Nigeria. The pressing argument that will be discussed in this paper would be the interminable oil spills due to the defective facilities and insufficient checks of equipments which are identified as the one of the main sources of the environmental contamination by Shell in the Niger Delta, how these irresponsible activities have implicated the environment which leads to unfavourable circumstances for society and stakeholders such as institutional investors, and the efforts made by Shell to counteract the situation. Background of Oil Spills in Niger Delta Before Shell tapped on the Delta, the eastern area of Nigeria was resource wealthy. However what thought to be a profitable activity for the corporations as well as Nigerian people too turned out to be a severe environmental threat and has been evolving for a few decades since 1956. Shell did acknowledge that their operations have caused oil spills, but did not agree on the extent of it. Analysts have recorded that in the year 1995 to 2006, Shell has committed an average three hundred spills annually which results to more than four hundred fifty thousand barrels of oil ( Tuodolo 2009 , 537 ). Bodo Oil Spills...

...Next, let’s move to response to recommendations. The executive team gives three main problems, which are SkyWest Reliance on United and Delta for its customers and revenue, Atlantic Southeast Airline’s poor customer service, and SkyWest has High Operating Costs as compared to competitors. However, the executive team just focuses on first two of them and gives the recommendations. The first recommendation is try to acquire contracts with low-cost providers, such as Southwest and JetBlue. We are agreeing with this recommendation. Because, if SkyWest only rely on United and Delta, it will increase their financial risk, assume one of them have a financial or managerial problem, the SkyWest will have a hard time, and that not only will affect their total revenue, but their public reputation and the power of competitive in this market. Also, only have United and Delta will limited the resource of income; therefore, find some more copartner is reasonable, but due to the SkyWest’s financial situation, the low-cost providers can be on the list. However, the question is whether Southwest and JetBlue, they are individual company, and they doing well on their business, so why they will come to SkyWest? What benefit that SkyWest can provide to those companies due to their current finical situation or the future years? We need more detail. The second recommendation is SkyWest share customer service strengths with ASA. And we agree with this recommendation. For any customer, when they...

...------------------------------------------------- EVENT PLANNING STUDENT PORTFOLIO ------------------------------------------------- EVENT PLANNING STUDENT PORTFOLIO EVENT PLANNING WORK BOOK EVENT ASSIGNMENT WORK BOOK & MANUAL MY EVENT STORY The most memorable event in my life was…. | The most memorable event in my life was the Traditional wedding Ceremony of my friend Nneka Ochonogor, it took place in Asaba, Delta State Nigeria, on the 23rd of March, 2013. It was a memorable event because there was a cross match of Cultures and ideas, owing to the fact that the groom was not a Nigerian, compared to the bride who was. The event was attended by the family of the groom, who came all the way from England. The parents of the groom had to be dressed in the usual traditional attire, fit for the traditional rites, though It was a struggle to have the head gear of the grooms mother in place because it kept going off at intervals owing to the size of her head. After the traditional rites (payment of dowry) the bride was unveiled as the tradition demands, prayers were said by the oldest man in the bride’s family and it was all merriment and dance. The grand reception was held in a hall(Orchid Hotel) in Asaba and I had the opportunity to witness an opulent and electrifying decoration by one of the best Event Planners from Abuja Nigeria(Red Diamond Events) There was so much class and elegance, the hall was a masterpiece and I felt and imagined...

(Thanhniennews.vn) SUMMARY OF THE ARTICLE According to the writer of the article, Tet is not appropriate for the current Vietnam economic situation. There are three main reasons the author argued. Firstly, the majority of the poor have to spend a great amount of money during Tet event, which pauperizes them and may get them commit crimes. Secondly, before and after Tet celebration, people get lazy and pay less attention on work, which not only slows down the whole business but also waste time and money. The final reason is Tet holiday interrupts Vietnam economic sectors while our country is integrating global economy, which can bring to some serious consequences. THE COUNTER-ARGUMENT ESSAY Global economy has become a common trend nowadays. Vietnam, a developing country, has to face lots of difficulties in making suitable policies for current economic situation, so that the international integration can be rapid and effective. One policy according to an author of the article “Tet is no longer suitable in Viet Nam” (Thanhniennews.vn) is that Tet festival should be removed or modified because it has many negative impacts as well as inappropriate for Vietnam economy. In my opinion, Tet is the most valuable traditional festival, hence...

...Robert Johnson Robert Johnson laid the foundation for blues rock. After Eric Clapton, world-renowned guitarist, heard Robert Johnson for the first time he said, “I realized that, on some level, I had found the master, and that following this man’s example would be my life’s work.” It isn’t only Clapton that believes Johnson to be one of the best guitarists of all time. Spin magazine, Rolling Stone, and Guitar.com all rate Robert Johnson as one of the greatest guitar players of all time. He has inspired legendary musicians such as Bob Dylan, Keith Richards, Muddy Waters, Jimi Hendrix and others (4). If, in today’s world of hip-hop and heavy metal, a person knows of only one country blues artist, odd are it is Robert Johnson (3). Let’s explore how this young man’s life impacted blues and rock music. Robert Johnson was born on May 8, 1911. Although there are differing dates on documents, this is the date that is most commonly believed to be correct (1). He was born in Hazelhurst, Mississippi and spent much of his early life in levee camps and on plantations. In 1918 his stepfather sent him to a plantation by Robinsonville, Mississippi. This is where he started playing harmonica and meeting older blues musicians such as Willie Brown, Charley Patton and Son House. He eventually moved back to Hazelhurst and met his wife but she died rather quickly after getting married (5). After his wife passed he went back to Robinsonville and met back up with his old blues musicians and friends...

...“VRIO framework is the tool used to analyze firm’s internal resources and capabilities to find out if they can be a source of sustained competitive advantage.” In order to understand the sources of competitive advantage firms are using many tools to analyze their external (Porter’s 5 Forces, PEST analysis) and internal (Value Chain analysis, BCG Matrix) environments. One of such tools that analyze firm’s internal resources is VRIO analysis. The tool was originally developed by Barney, J. B. (1991) in his work ‘Firm Resources and Sustained Competitive Advantage’, where the author identified four attributes that firm’s resources must possess in order to become a source of sustained competitive advantage. According to him, the resources must be Valuable, Rare, imperfectly Imitable and Non-substitutable. His original framework was called VRIN. In 1995, in his later work ‘Looking Inside for Competitive Advantage’ Barney has introduced VRIO framework, which was the improvement of VRIN model. VRIO analysis stands for four questions that ask if a resource is: Valuable? Rare? Costly to Imitate? And is a firm Organized to capture the value of the resources? A resource or capability that meets all four requirements can bring sustained competitive advantage for the company. Valuable The first question of the framework asks if a resource adds value by enabling a firm to exploit opportunities or defend against threats. If the answer is yes, then a resource is considered valuable. Resources...
