LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of this assignment, you should be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of multimedia authoring Paradigms & basic server side scripting. 2. Apply the principles of interactive media technology to create and manipulate graphic, digital video and digital audio files based on a business application. 3. Design web pages that follow HCI principles. 4. Demonstrate the knowledge of the infrastructure of the internet in the support of web page deployment.
PROJECT TITLES
As one of the members of a Web Development Team that consists of 3 – 4 persons, you and your team have been appointed as the Web developer to develop a website for an organization.
You are allowed to choose ONE (1) of the following website:
i. Safari, Wildlife Park or Zoo ii. Botanic Garden or National Park iii. Sports or Games iv. Tourism v. Online News or Magazine
Your group is required to design and develop a fully working website. Animation and JavaScript must also be included in the website for interaction purposes. Database connection and processing are not required for this assignment.
The Web site must demonstrate good usage and appropriateness of multimedia element. You need to demonstrate usage of animation and JavaScript in the website develop for interaction purposes. You are expected to provide suitable interfaces by applying design principles and a fully functional navigation component.
The group in-course assignment weighted at 70 % for group work and 30% on individual components. Each team member is expected to put in an equal amount of effort into the project. You are reminded that co-operation is the key to ensuring that the project is completed successfully. Being of a collective nature, the entire group is held liable for the success of it.
REQUIREMENTS
The usage of Web page creation tools is permitted. You have the option of developing the presentation using the following tools: • Adobe Dreamweaver • Microsoft Web Expression • Adobe Flash
The Web site must fulfill the following criteria; i.e. it should:
1. Consist of 10 - 20 interlinked pages. 2. Contain examples of appropriate usage of HTML elements. 3. Provide quality content. 4. Demonstrate usage of animation and JavaScript. 5. Provide appropriate navigation support. 6. Perform proper file organization and naming convention. 7. Be viewable on multiple browsers and settings.
DOCUMENTATION
Your documentation should contain at least 3000 words. Documentation should be in a formal report format. The documentation should include the following:
1. Format: • Type face: Times New Roman/ Arial. Bold face, italic & lines can be used for emphasizing and to enhance readability • Font size: 12(except tittles and headings) • Margins: 1” from the left, right, top & bottom of the edges of the A4 paper • Spacing: maximum 1.5 lines between texts of a paragraph • Alignment: justify • Headers and footers can be used • Be numbered • Color and binding 2. Cover page, your cover page should contain the following items • Team member’s name and student ID • Intake code • Subject • Project Title • Date Assigned (the date the report was handed out) • Date Completed (the date the report is due to be handed in) • APU logo 3. Recommended Content • Acknowledgement • Table of Contents - The table of contents should have the topic title and reference page number attached to each topic. • Introduction - This section introduces your project including the background information of the Web site, and objectives, scopes, targeted audiences, project schedule and a summary of the major sections of your website. • Storyboard & Modeling - The section defines the interface design, functional flow chart, storyboard, website architectures, Web page descriptions and etc. You are required to discuss the design decisions made and the reasons for them • Evaluation - Explain how the proposed system solves the existing problems and addresses opportunities. You may also discuss major technical problems faced during development and how do you solve these problems. • Future Enhancements – Explain major technical problems faced during development and how do you solve these problems and shortcomings • Conclusions • References – Strictly Harvard style referencing • Attachments – Include your 10 weekly progress reports, weekly meeting attendance sheet & a workload matrix. The weekly report should include what you have done for the previous 10 weeks.
SUBMISSION
1. Documentation must be submitted in printed copy & softcopy. 2. All other necessary files to run the website and project documentation should be all included in a CD to be handed in together with the documentation.
PRESENTATION
You are required to present your website to the lecturer, and the presentation will be judged accordingly. You can use any of the presentation software, e.g. PowerPoint.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
The assignment is weight at 100%. Group & individual efforts will be assessed based on the following criteria.
