...“Neil and I will arrive in a month or so, to make sure ye are settled and oversee the wedding preparations,” her father said to her. Lily looked around. “Where is Mairi’s horse? Isn’t she saddled yet?” Lord Aberdeen’s face grew colder still. “Mairi? Oh, you must be mistaken, my dear, Mairi was never coming with you. You will have new servants at Colloness Castle.” Lily was shocked. “What are ye talking about? Mairi must come with me!” She looked around desperately. Mairi was nowhere to be seen. “How could ye do this to me?” A cold smile spread across Lord Aberdeen’s face. “Me? Oh, no, my dear, this was not my doing. This is under orders from the Laird of Loneshire himself. He expressly forbade ye to bring any reminders of yer former life. How did he put it? He would like...

...in order to get rid of the food, bingeing is a psychological disorder that manifests itself by loss of control in which emotion and thinking patterns cause a person to take on dangerous eating habits, such as overeating. Usually, these habits are a way of coping with depression, stress or anxiety. Food, being the commodity of which the sufferer has lost complete control, becomes more of an enemy than a lifeless object. Binge eating is new to the long list of traditional eating disorders and is said to affect millions of people around the world. Persons suffering with this disorder are not immediately recognized, because they are quite masterful at hiding their actions. For the purpose of this essay, specific clinical issues such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy and treatment programs for binge eating disorder will be analyzed. What causes binge eating disorder? Although we do not know the exact cause of binge eating disorder, researchers have found that it is a combination of biological, psychological and social and cultural factors. 1. Biological causes of binge eating disorder Binge eating is caused by genetic irregularities in the hypothalamus, (a small piece of tissue in the brain) which controls body weight and appetite. When not working properly it transmits incorrect messages about hunger and fullness. Studies also show that food addiction may also be inherited and that low-levels of serotonin in the brain (a neurotransmitter which helps to communicate messages...

What can stop the determined heart and resolved will of man?” ~ p. 8 The author allows each individual’s power to show a rebellious style of Romanticism. “…the mist cleared away, and we beheld, stretched out in every...

...Question 1a WRITE NOTES ON Eating disorder Introduction Eating disorders (EDs) are psychiatric disorders with diagnostic criteria based on psychologic, behavior, and physiologic characteristics. Eating disorders is a broad name for a number of problems faced by human beings with food in our society. While majority slip into overeating or comfort eating at some point, for some the problem goes to life-threatening extremes. For instance a common type of eating disorder is the anorexia nervosa and bulimia; there is a deep fear of being overweight that leads to an obsession about restricting the number of calories the person is taking in. This leads to an extreme state of starvation, which in turn has a number of effects on the way that the body functions and how hormones are produced. The common symptom of someone affected by an eating disorder includes: a. Mentally keeping a balance between calories taken in and calories used up b. Deep-seated feelings of anxiety if they consume a few calories too many c. Self-loathing, depression or panic if they haven’t lost any weight or put a little on, despite their best efforts Many scholars have researched the issue of diet quite deeply and know the damage they are doing to themselves but are still unable to stop. This just makes the feelings of despair and self-loathing even worse, causing their condition to continue. Common types of eating Disorders Research has given support to the existence...

...IGOROTS * Home * IGOROT SONGS * IGOROT DANCE * IGOROT TRADITIONS * MONEY ON THE MOUNTAIN IGOROT TRADITIONS IGOROT TRADITIONS When we talk about Igorot identity and culture, we also have to consider the time. My point is that: what I am going to share in this article concerning the Igorot culture might not be the same practiced by the Igorots of today. It has made variations by the passing of time, which is also normally happening to many other cultures, but the main core of respect and reverence to ancestors and to those who had just passed is still there. The Igorot culture that I like to share is about our practices and beliefs during the "time of Death". Death is part of the cycle of life. Igorots practice this part of life cycle with a great meaning and importance. Before the advent of Christianity in the Igorotlandia, the Igorots or the people of the Cordilleran region in the Philippines were animist or pagans. Our reverence or the importance of giving honor to our ancestors is a part of our daily activities. We consider our ancestors still to be with us, only that they exist in another world or dimension. Whenever we have some special feasts (e.g., occasions during death, wedding, family gathering, etc.), when we undertake something special (like going somewhere to look for a job or during thanksgiving), we perform some special offer. We call this "Menpalti/ Menkanyaw", an act of butchering and offering animals. During these times we call them...

When I took a trip to Britain, I thought people would speak with a “British accent.” I didn’t realize that there are many different accents and the differences are not just pronunciation, but also vocabulary. In order to get my message across, I learned to avoid using slang words as much as I could. I didn’t realize how much American slang I use in my everyday speech! Despite the many different ways of speaking English across the UK, I felt the way that I speak English made me stick out as an American. W hen we think of “communication...

PREFACE Rationale We agreed to produce the instructor’s manual for the sixth edition of A First Look at Communication Theory because it’s a first-rate book and because we enjoy talking and writing about pedagogy. Yet when we recall the discussions we’ve had with colleagues about instructor’s manuals over the years, two unnerving comments stick with us: “I don’t find them much help”; and (even worse) “I never look at them.” And, if the truth be told, we were often the people making such points! With these statements in mind, we have done some serious soul-searching about the texts that so many teachers—ourselves...

Historically, philosophy was the first form of theoretical knowledge. As a rational theoretical tool of comprehending the world, philosophy arose in ancient Greece in stiff battle with mythology and religious consciousness. It came out to lay the foundation for the evolvement of scientific consciousness and the emergence and development of the sciences - Mathematics, Astronomy, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, etc. In an environment rife with various and varying superstitions and myths, the study of the History of Science and Philosophy of Science becomes crucial, lest science itself falls within the ambit of mythology and superstition and becomes another form of myth even in the hands of the tutored.
