How would you feel if that one person you despise the most forced you to move out of your house all the way into a new state. This is what happened to the cherokee indians during 1830 when the indian removal act was signed. The cherokee had been living in Georgia for a hundred years before the first Georgians arrived and were forced to move west into Louisiana. There were many reasons for this act to happen however it was as if the Cherokee had no say against it. The government was very biased for its people and did little to support the cherokee. The americans didn’t have to be so harsh to the natives just because they were “savages”. In addition, the cherokees may have helped the british during the war of 1812, however that was over sixty years before the Removal act was signed. Any war veterans that have survived are long gone. The cherokee should have been forgiven as a whole new generation had taken over the tribe.
