Individual Article Rebuttal
I recently read an article posted by an individual that qualifies as controversial. The topic is .22 lr ammo and price gauging. A little bit of background on the issue. The particular ammo in question is the smallest caliber ammo. Typical shooters use this ammo for simply target practice as it is usually too small to kill animals, or be used as self-defense rounds. It is the weakest ammo, and usually the very cheapest to buy. Two years ago, there were boxes upon boxes of this ammo lying around everywhere. It was very easy to find and buy. However recently there has been a nationwide shortage. Manufactures and retailers can’t keep supplies on their shelves longer than a few minutes of receiving a new shipment. It should be pointed out that the ammo isn’t illegal, and it should be pointed out that it is being made, just not enough for the high demand. Finally I should point out that the prices by the retailers are usually $25.00 per box of 500 rounds. That comes to about five cents per round. This is where price gauging becomes an issue. Many consumers are acquiring these hard to find boxes of ammo and selling them online for $50-$75 dollars per box, or ten to fifteen cents a round. Basically doubling and tripling the price.
The Controversial Argument The author writes how unethical re-selling this ammo is. He further writes that when people do this is creates more of an issue. He uses invalid and inaccurate information to support his argument and incorrectly sway the readers.

The Rebuttal Dear Mr. “kriscamaro68”
In response to your article regarding .22 ammo price gauging: I believe your entire argument lacks credibility. I checked some of your facts and have found them to be outdated or just plan false. For example you say you can purchase ammo at half the cost from Cabelas without paying shipping cost. I have contacted

Individual Article Rebuttal

...Individual Article Rebuttal XBCOM/275 Business Communication and Critical Thinking Week Four August 19th, 2012 Individual Article Rebuttal The article I chose was “House Republican budget to seek Medicare reforms”. The reason I selected this particular article is because my husband with end stage renal disease is a recipient of the Medicare program. Recently, Paul Ryan told reporters that although their reforms had not been fully established yet, they would be similar to the plan the Republican Party came up with in 2011; a plan to essentially privatize Medicare. Paul Ryan is congressman from the State of Wisconsin, currently the House Budget Committee Chairman and nominee of the Republican Party for Vice President of the United States in the 2012 election. Medicare on its basic form is a fee-for-service program that encompasses services that help pay for hospital stays, doctor visits and prescription coverage. The reforms the Republican Party is trying to make to Medicare are aligned to transform the current program into a method that uses vouchers so beneficiaries can use it to buy insurance separately. Although the plan proposed by Republicans is much like the Democrats in the sense that it would not affect current recipients or those near getting the benefit, the Republican reform would affect the population under 55 years of age. The increases on health care costs in our country would create a big difference between what the government would pay for health...

Bcom275 Week #3 Individual Assignment - Article Rebuttal

...Article Rebuttal BCOM275 October 1st, 2012 Kai Hintze Article Rebuttal When thinking of a controversial matter which happened recently in America what first comes to mind is maybe not the most important thing to be worried about right now; however it is what entertains many Americans and that is football. Most articles found about the last game that replacement referees officiated are very controversial as the only people that really know what happened that night are the refs and the players which were on the field. There is no way to find credible information including watching a replay numerous times. The article states numerous times that the call which was called a touchdown should not have been called that and it is hard to side with either way do to the facts surrounding the situation. Unfortunately many individuals believe that these refs were not properly trained and are blaming it on the refs themselves for taking the job or the short training they may have received. But fans, particular those in Wisconsin, said the 52-year-old southern California banker with no previous professional or major college refereeing experience should have never left his desk to become a replacement during the NFL’s lockout of unionized refs  (Walder & Hutchinson, 2012). I can agree that one certain ref took this job with only three days of training preparing him for Division I college football; however it could be a disagreement that due to that short of time he was not...

Article Rebuttle

...Article Rebuttal John Alton BCOM 275 Dec. 22, 2014 Lileen Coulloudon Article Rebuttal For the subject of my article rebuttal I have chosen a topic that I wanted to educate myself on by examining both viewpoints, and evaluating my own stance once I have more information. While the real topic is very broad and covers quite a few disciplines, many people now lump several issues into one big talking point called “Common Core”. As a father of two young children this issue has a very real outcome for me, and I wanted to examine why this issue was so polarizing. As defined by www.corestandars.org, Common Core is a set of high-quality academic standards in mathematics and English language arts/literacy (ELA). These learning goals outline what a student should know and be able to do at the end of each grade. To take this issue to its simplest point, Common Core achieves its goals through standardized testing. This concept was born of the desire to benchmark American students against others. I found the need to search outside of my normal newsfeeds and websites to find an article to rebut. When I found Six ways the Common Core is Good for Students featured on the neaToday website I knew the six points were thinly veiled propaganda. It had six well defined reasons that Common Core was going to do all that it promised to do, and gave examples as well as testimonials from educators who were finding that Common Core was working. Interestingly enough, several times in the article...

Rebuttal on Gay Marraige Editorial Article

...William J Bennett Article Rebuttal Dalila Solis BCOM/275 June 18, 2012 Robert Beaudry William J. Bennett Article Rebuttal Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are not dictated by one’s sexual preferences let alone sexism or racism but by ones will to live and love. Over the centuries, society has evolved to allow for corrections to inequalities. Changes such as women’s rights and minority rights have changed to reflect human equality. Reading the Gay Marriage: Not a Very Good Idea article was a bit disturbing to me since I believe in human rights and equality. The rights for woman and the rights for males regardless of the their sexual preferences are being violated based on our constitution as it pertains to choosing who we want to partner with. The institution of marriage is an exclusive relationship in which one individual commits to another in mind, body and soul in a joint venture of their lives. Laws against same sex marriage exposes hatred and inequality to said individuals due to the nature of their union (male – male, female – female). The opposition to gay marriages contradicts our views on equality as stated in our constitution. Devaluation, as stated by Bennett (1996), of marriage because of sexual revolution is essentially stating that each individual is striped of his or her rights once they join in same sex marriage because the value of marriage has been tainted. Traditionally, marriage meant to bring businesses...

Rebuttal to Democratc Budget Proposals

...A Rebuttal to "Democrat Budget Proposal is Unrealistic" The budget deficit of the United States has exceeded over $1 trillion and debate is raging over how to reduce the budget deficit without further negative impacts on the economy, business, and jobs. As the federal government approaches the borrowing limit of $14.3 trillion, the Democrat argument is to raise the debt ceiling in order to allow for continued borrowing and meet current financial obligations or default on its debt or risk financial collapse as a result of decreased creditor confidence (Toomey, 2011). Republicans have countered that they will not allow debt ceiling increases without substantial cuts in spending and without increases in taxes (Toomey, 2011). The article, “Democrat Budget Proposal is Unrealistic,” posted on www.caldwellteaparty.org, provides as its’ central thesis that government spending should be decreased to 2008 levels and claims that the current Democrat-led administration as having “recorded and performed the most gargantuan, massive, unconscionable, ruinous, explosive, erratic, careless, extreme, astronomical increase of the deficit EVER in U.S. History” (snaketread, 2011, para. 7). This article is examined and a rebuttal provided to its various claims. Analysis and Rebuttal The central thesis of the article is that government spending should be reduced to 2008 levels and that the recent budget deficit issue is the result of gross overspending of the current administration’s policy...

Rhetorical Analysis On Blame Yourself

...The first article that I began to consider was Blame the Echo Chamber on Facebook. But Blame Yourself, too by Kartik Hosanagar. Within the evidence section of this paper the author established his authority to be speaking on this paper by his reference to research studies that he participated in regarding this algorithmically personalized content. By referencing these research studies Mr. Hosanagar is attempting to appeal to his audience’s ethos by proving he is a credible source to be speaking on this topic. Once he begins discussing the topic of the paper he makes a point to distinguish the difference between how an iTunes algorithm for generating personalized content is different from what Facebook does to appeal to our political curiosity. I believe this deliberate point to distinguish the difference between these...

Marijuana

...Assignments Article Rebuttal: Marijuana BCOM/275 September 25, 2012 Gregory Hearnes Article Rebuttal: Marijuana According to Elon (2006), [Smoking a marijuana cigarette deposits about three to five times more tar into the lungs than one filtered cigarette. Smoking three to four joints per day causes as much harm to the respiratory system as smoking a full pack of cigarettes a day. Marijuana smoke contains 50 to 70 percent more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco smoke.] The truth of the matter is that scientific studies show that marijuana is not toxic to humans, and the “overdose” amount is so unrealistic as to be laughable. More people have died from prescription drugs, firearms, alcohol, aspirin, or peanut butter than marijuana. There is no evidence that supports marijuana having ever caused any medical deaths. Alcohol and tobacco are both more addictive and dangerous than marijuana (Hubpages, n.d.) “Accident records from one study showed that up to 12% of non-fatally injured drivers and up to 16% of fatally injured drivers had marijuana in their bloodstream” (Elon, 2006). Just because an individual has marijuana in their bloodstream does not mean that they were under the influence at the time of their accident. Marijuana can show up in the bloodstream over 30 days after actually consuming it. This study is not accurate because it does not show that the individuals were actually...

Article Rebuttal

...Article Rebuttal xxxxxxxxxxx BCOM/275 – Business Communications and Critical Thinking March 4, 2013 Joel Maier Article Rebuttal A major question that is asked frequently every year is “Should I get a flu shot?” As the flu season gets closer, people start asking this question and wonder the same thing “Will I still get the flu even if I get the shot?” Can one assume that if you if an immunization is received, that there is no possibility of catching the flu? Because medical insurance is yet another controversial issue, what about those who do not have coverage? Is there an affordable plan for the shot for these individuals and if not will these individuals definitely be plagued by the flu? The Mayo Clinic states that “Flu shots are the most effective way to prevent influenza and its complications” (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2013, pg.1). After reading the entire article, it shows evidence that the shot has been effective anywhere between 60-70% of the time, not 100% of the time. The article is contradicting in stating that the most effective way of fighting the flu is getting the flu shot. What about those individuals who fall into the 30-40% ineffective? Research shows that the flu immunization needs to be administered annually to have the most effective results. One has to question how researchers can be certain what the next string of flu may look like. The Mayo Clinic states that the circulating strains of flu virus can be close but not always an identical match to the...

Summary Of Toulmin's System The Coddling Of The American Mind

...Toulmin’s System: The Coddling of the American Mind Claim: In this article, Lukianoff and Haidt discuss about how microaggressions and trigger warnings are being institutionalized on college campuses. Aside from this, they argue that policing speech ultimately ruins the purpose of college, as it prevents students from being exposed from diverse thoughts, ideas, and opinions. Backing or Evidence: In the beginning, they mention how students, specifically foreign students, are being offended by simple questions, such as, “where are you from?”. In my opinion, this is quite ridiculous to overreact over a simple question because it is merely a question. However, the reaction itself is quite subjective and is dependent on the context of the situation. Aside from this, the article mentions how being exposed to opposing thoughts, ideas, and opinions prepares an individual for the “Real World”. I agree with this statement because people should never expect a world free from hate....

A Moral Arguement on Abortion Rebuttal

...A Moral Argument for Abortion Rebuttal Casey Garza December 6, 2012 A Moral Argument for Abortion Rebuttal Casey Garza December 6, 2012 Davidson Loehr’s article “ A Moral Argument for Abortion” is based on a wide range of arguments based on bates over abortion. One of the arguments I found that I did not agree with was when he stated, “ It’s a quantity of life versus quality of life issue” (Loher, 2011). I feel that no matter how many humans there may be in the world at one point in time, that should not factor the life of one human being. There are many issues that I am able to see both sides of when it comes to abortion, but with this topic I cannot see any reason behind this argument. The reason I feel this way is because no matter the economic level of a family, they can still be happier then the richest family in the world. According to Census 2010: Household Size Trends, the average household size in 1970 was 3.25. In 2011 it was 2.61(Cohn, 2011). What I am trying to show it that abortions were not as common in 1970 as they are today, and the household rate is still much lower. This is also taking into consideration that in today’s society, it is much more socially accepted for a married couple to decide to not have any children. I guess what I am trying to say is even if we added in what the household size would have been...

Retrieved July 8, 2014, from http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2014/06/08/are-reparations-due-to-african-americans/we-need-a-reparations-superfund), states Mary Frances Berry the former chairwoman of the United States commission on civil rights. Mary Frances Berry believes that ex-slave pension and bounty movement back in 1887 should be followed through. “Whose membership forms stated the number of years they had been working as slaves, along with the names of their slave owners in the plantations on which they lived”. Unfortunately a lot of the ex-slave pension bounty movement individuals have long since passed, “individuals who can prove the identity of slave ancestors, whether they sought reparations in the 19th century are not, could also be eligible.” People who read this article may wonder who will step up to pay these respirations to the individuals who can prove slave ancestry. “Monies could come from corporations that profited from slave labor in from banks and insurance companies that practiced racial discrimination”, states Mary Frances Berry. This ’Reparation Superfund’ is ridiculous and inappropriate. I among millions of Americans are truly saddened by the history of our great country. Tragedy has stung most countries on this planet when it comes to slavery. Slavery dates back to 6800 B.C. “world’s first city grows up in Mesopotamia” (Home - Free the...
