The Jews in Jerusalem introduced a kind of banking in the form of money lending before the birth of Christ. First modern banking was introduced in 1668 in Stockholm as 'Svingss Pis Bank’, which opened up a new era of banking activities throughout the European Mainland. In the South Asian region, the Afghan traders popularly known as Kabuliwallas introduced early banking system. Muslim businessmen from Kabul, Afghanistan came to India and started money lending business in exchange of interest sometime in 1312 A.D. They were known as 'Kabuliwallas'.

Tennents

...merchant city, a 5-minute walk from the university. This was a guided tour of the Brewery, which provided an insight into the history of the company as well as a detailed description as to how the Lager was made. It was clear that the service attracted a middle age tourist clientele due to the high volume of foreign consumers on the tour we partook in. The experience intended to provide customers with an understanding of the full brewing-to- bottling process of Scotland’s “favorite beer”, and the evolution of Tennents over the company’s timeline. On arrival, staff were friendly, well dressed and approachable, which contributed to a relaxed environment. The setting of the meeting room was busy and kept the consumer’s mind occupied whilst they waited for the tour to begin. This helped detract from the issue of the tour starting later than the proposed time. With a contemporary design, the room was appealing to the consumer aesthetically and helped build a positive insight as to the quality which could be expected from the tour. A successful blueprint of the service was clear as both customer A and B knew what part they played during the encounter. Such factors included marking yellow pathways on the roads between buildings for the customer to stay within for their safety as well as providing hair nets and high vis vests for health and safety. A leader follower relationship was adopted in this tour, meaning that the consumer relied on the guide largely for the encounter...

Travel & Tourism Timeline

...Arabia, at least once in his or her lifetime. In contrast to a religious pilgrimage a “modern” pilgrimage is no less of a transformative experience but tends not to have organised religion as its motivation. An example of a modern pilgrimage is, visiting ground zero in New York, the site were the world trade towers stood, which attracted five million visitors, who paid their respects to the dead in 2011, the tenth anniversary of the attacks. It is common to refer to “pilgrimages” to sporting arenas by fans of that team or to visiting the resting places of celebrities and important historical figures, such as Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris the resting place of Jim Morrison or Highgate cemetery in London were Karl Marx is buried. Mending Wall (Summary)

...A stone wall separates the speaker’s property from his neighbor’s. In spring, the two meet to walk the wall and jointly make repairs. The speaker sees no reason for the wall to be kept—there are no cows to be contained, just apple and pine trees. He does not believe in walls for the sake of walls. The neighbor resorts to an old adage: “Good fences make good neighbors.” The speaker remains unconvinced and mischievously presses the neighbor to look beyond the old-fashioned folly of such reasoning. His neighbor will not be swayed. The speaker envisions his neighbor as a holdover from a justifiably outmoded era, a living example of a dark-age mentality. But the neighbor simply repeats the adage. The image at the heart of “Mending Wall” is arresting: two men meeting on terms of civility and neighborliness to build a barrier between them. They do so out of tradition, out of habit. Yet the very earth conspires against them and makes their task Sisyphean. Sisyphus, you may recall, is the figure in Greek mythology condemned perpetually to push a boulder up a hill, only to have the boulder roll down again. These men push boulders back on top of the wall; yet just as inevitably, whether at the hand of hunters or sprites, or the frost and thaw of nature’s invisible hand, the boulders tumble down again. Still, the neighbors persist. The poem, thus, seems to meditate conventionally on three grand themes: barrier-building (segregation, in the broadest sense of the word), the doomed nature of...

Vans

...SHOES THAT PICK UP GIRLS May 13, 2012 SHOES THAT PICK UP GIRLS The Vans advertisement “How to pick up girls with your feet" implies to patrons that because someone is wearing these shoes it is inevitable that women will want them regardless of their looks, personality, or status. According to this ad, the shoes will elevate you to an irresistible status in a woman's eyes. This brand is mostly synonymous with the skater and the BMX biker scene; however it seems the company is trying to appeal to a bigger market. This advertisement uses appeals to ethos, pathos, and logos to sell a product Vans insists will undoubtedly attract woman simply because female onlookers see these shoes being worn. The visual image of an attractive woman in the advertisement is mainly working on a viewers need for acceptability in an attempt to motivate and convince them to purchase Vans shoes. The advertisement plays off the emotions of adolescence; teenagers and young adults are made to think that if they have these shoes beautiful women will be instantly attracted to them. Furthermore, the use of a beautiful woman with plump, full, luscious lips with a deep red lipstick color draws the viewer’s eyes immediately to the woman before anything else. This portrayal would lead one to believe wearing these shoes leads to gaining a beautiful, sensual woman. Secondly, the advertisement has credibility because of its name (Vans) and the reputation they have created for themselves throughout the...

Problem Solving and Information on the Internet

...Assignment #1 Part 1 URL: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/827793-tiger-woods-will-he-ever-win-a-major-championship-again What is the Issue? The issue in the article “Tiger Woods: Will He Ever Win a Major Championship Again?” is “Will Tiger Woods ever return to old form and win another major championship” I have determined that this is the issue in the article because the author is pondering whether or not Tiger will ever be the same golfer that he once was, and finally win that elusive 15th major championship. What is the Conclusion? The conclusion in the article is when the author states, “ the answer is, simply, yes.” This is the conclusion that the author makes about the issue on hands, and he is stating that will definitely happen that Tiger Woods will regain form, and win another major championship before he retires as a professional golfer. What are the reasons? If you look into the article for reasons why the author believes his conclusion, there are many possible options to choose from. I will focus on two main ones that appear evident to me. The first reason is when the author states that the oldest major champion was 48 years of age. He goes on to say that Tiger has 13 more years of golf before he reaches that age, which means he will play in 52 more major championships. The author then states that he would only need to have a winning percentage of 1.9% in those tournaments to capture that 15th title. The next reason that the author states, is that...

Project Management Swot

...~~~~~~ Part A. ~~~~~~ TRAVEL AGENCY Strengths: characteristics of the business or project that give it an advantage over others. Weaknesses: characteristics that place the business or project at a disadvantage relative to others Opportunities: elements that the project could exploit to its advantage Threats: elements in the environment that could cause trouble for the business or project Strengths: Previously a travel agent was relied upon for necessity, there were no options, but as the internet became more prevalent people were still reluctant to part with their cash. From there, the Celtic tiger era created a mix of people wanting a near budgetless (!) trip arranged for them, by the travel agent, and people who wanted to do it themselves, we then moved into a recession era where people who had the money wanted to ensure its security by entrusting it with a travel agent over the black hole that is the internet! As you can see throughout the economics highs and lows a travel agent is viewed and relied upon as a staple, albeit variably. Loyalty was a key factor in the survival of many agencys, one story that stayed with me was a client who was in the construction industry and went bust during the recession, leaving a lot of debt behind. The MD of the company came to us hat in hand apologising and expressing embarrassment etc, but he went on to ensure that all future personal bookings and his friends & family’s bookings were made through us – out of...

Manila Walk Tour

...WALK TOUR REACTION PAPER Last, Monday, September 21, 2015, we had our "Food" walk tour in Binondo with Mr. Ivan Dy. The tour was very tiring and at the same time stomach filling. It was tiring because the weather was so hot and we just walked to go to our destination. It was stomach filling because we went to 5 destinations and just ate chinese foods the entire tour. The foods were delicious. Mr. Ivan is a fun and entertaining tour guide. Even though he had mic, we werent able to understand some of what he’s saying. He wasn’t able to catch all the attention of the students. Last Sunday, September 27, 2015, we had our Intramuros tour with Mr. Carlos Celdran. The tour last for about 3 hours. It was called a walk tour but there really is not much walking. We went to 4 destinations and sit down to listen to him. The tour was tiring and at the same time interesting. It was tiring because the weather was kind of hot and there are many of us and it was interesting because Mr. Carlos Celdran made the tour very entertaining with his props, the changed of hats and the throwing of santan from his pocket. From the way he delivers, it looks like we were just watching a play. Every time he says the line “Walk This Way!” it excites everyone and follows him and you can see a smile on everyone’s faces. It was one of the reasons why the tour was exciting. He even gave all of us a chocolate, to be specific choc nut, for answering his question. I noticed that almost all the people who belong to...

Connolly V. Samuelson

...CASE 29.2 Independent Contractor: Mercedes Connolly and her husband purchased airline tickets and a tour package for a tour to South Africa from Judy Samuelson, a travel agent doing business as International Tours of Manhattan. Samuelson sold tickets for a variety of airline companies and tour operators, including African Adventurers, which was the tour operator for the Connolly’s’ tour. Mercedes fell while trying to cross a 6-inch-deep stream while the tour group was on a walking tour to see hippopotami in a river at a game reserve. In the process, she injured her left ankle and foot. She sued Samuelson for damages. Is Samuelson liable? Connolly v. Samuelson, 671 F.Supp. 1312, Web 1987 U.S. Dist. Lexis 8308 (United States District Court for the District of Kansas) Samuelson is not liable for Mrs. Connolly injury in anyway. The environment was set forth by the nature of the trip. Just because Samuelson is a travel agent who provides the tickets it doesn’t make him liable for the damages caused by Connolly’s injury. He was not negligent and wasn’t even there when the accident occurred. The seller of the tour package isn’t liable for the plaintiff falling while crossing the stream. His obligations were to provide the transportation services, not to ensure her wellbeing after arriving at her destination. Everyone has slipped on rock one time or another in their life whether it be at the beach or while on vacation, and not in the slightest has there...
