...We met at a cancer patients' support group at our church. I have lung cancer and have had it for as long as I remember. I had been attending for about a month when I met him. At first I didn’t really know anyone, but quickly I became friends with Dave, who like me, suffered from lung cancer. Dave had been attending cancer patients' support group for a very long time and he was the one who introduced me to Charlie. I first met Charlie on a Thursday. I clearly remember the day. It was raining and I was just about to leave support group and walk out into the parking space, when Dave shouted out my name. I had seen Charlie at the meetings, but I had never spoken with him though - he was very shy, compared to Dave who is a very extrovert person. I went over to them and Dave introduced me to Charlie. We shook hands and I felt this weird connection right away. I didn’t get his number, so we didn’t talk until the next support group meeting. I had never been looking forward to support group meetings. I had always wanted to skip the meetings and lay in bed instead, but this time I was really looking forward to support group, I could barely wait. And that was mainly because I wanted to see Charlie again. But he didn’t show up for the next meeting. I sat next to Dave, but I didn’t want to ask him about Charlie. I didn’t want him to know I was interested. When support group was over, I went out into the parking space like I used to and there he was. I didn’t know what to do, but fortunately...

...Name: Loknath Koirala Section: D Roll No.: 30 Instructor: Mr. Bal Bdr. Thapa ENGL 552 (Ideas and Themes in Poetry) 15th Sep 2015 War as a Medium to Freedom in Stephen Crane's "For War is Kind" The poem "For War is Kind" has been interpreted several times as a satire on war. War is portrayed as a medium that brings life to the end. Death has been taken as something that is cruel, something that is evil. With the insights from the teaching of Eastern school of philosophy, looking into the lines of the poem, new directions can be provided to the vision towards death. This paper drags the poem out from the stream of satire and portrays death as a force responsible for ultimate freedom and realization. Stephen Crane, in "For War is Kind", tries to portray war as a medium that makes the span of illusion short. In the darkness, one easily gets frightened believing rope a snake because of illusion. Because of illusion death seems as an end to everything and life only truth. Life appears as the only 'ultimate truth'. We believe after life everything is put to an end. If so, where were we before the birth? We were nowhere. We are expressed for a moment of time as the air and water are manifested into a bubble for a couple of minute. This manifestation is temporary and illusive and they are "neither permanent, nor the possessions themselves everlasting" (Goyandaka 58). Life is like a tide, which arises from the same bottom of ocean where it settles. Just for a moment of time we distinguish...

...Pascal’s Wager If there be a God, He is infinitely incomprehensible, since, having neither parts nor limits, He has no relation to us. We are, then, incapable of knowing either that He is or what He is. Let us examine this point: "Either God is, or is not," we can say. But to which side shall we incline? Reason cannot help us. There is an infinite gulf fixed between creature and creator. What will you wager? It is like a game in which heads or tails may turn up. There is no reason for backing either the one possibility or the other. You cannot reasonably argue in favor of either. If you know nothing either way, it might be urged, the true course is not to wager at all. But you must wager; that does not depend on your will. You are embarked in this business. Which will you choose? Let us see. Since you must choose, your reason is no more affronted in choosing one way than the other. That point is clear. But what of your happiness? Let us weigh the gain and the loss in wagering that God does exist. If you wager that He does, and He does, you gain all; if you wager that He does, and He does not, you lose nothing. If you win, you take all; if you lose, you lose nothing. This is demonstrable, and if men are capable of any truths, this is one. Wager then, unhesitatingly, that He does exist. If we ought to do nothing except on a certainty, we ought to do nothing for religion, because it is not a matter of certainty,. But it is false to say, "We ought to do nothing except on...

...ChApter 18 Management of Waiting Lines Teaching Notes Some of the math and calculations can be left out in order to focus more clearly on the concepts of waiting lines. For example, all infinite source problems, including single channel (except constant service time) can be handled using the infinite source queuing table. In the past, queuing presented students with a good bit of computational requirements, and because of that, students frequently lost sight of the underlying concepts. With less emphasis on math of calculations, students can handle individual problems more quickly, allowing an instructor to assign a greater number of homework problems, and hopefully enabling students to enrich their experience with queuing vis a vis a variety of (short) problems. If you want to shorten the material somewhat, I would suggest omitting the finite source model and/or the multiple priority model. You can shorten the section even more by not assigning problems which require cost comparisons, although I personally feel that cost comparisons are perhaps the ultimate goal in an operations management course. Answers to Discussion and Review Questions 1. Queuing analysis is appropriate in analyzing capacity when service and/or arrival rates are highly variable. 2. Variations in service and/or arrival rates create instances in which demand temporarily exceeds capacity. 3. Commonly used measures of system performance include the average number waiting and average time they wait...

...A bible approach of the marketing: About Product End of Life and the sacrifice of Yitzhak Guy Saadon 28.03.2011 To invest time and efforts on Product End of life (EOL): Who has time for this? Who needs this? Is it not a waste of time when we have so many tasks to face with the present and the future? To better understand this question, let's call our dear old Abraham and Yitzhak and let's focus especially on the harder trial of life of Abraham, the sacrifice of Yitzhak. Note: in this context we will not try to explain and understand this trial but more limit our interest on how it can help us to better understand the necessity for End of Life process. How can we understand Abraham? His entire life was to fight against idolatry and human sacrifices. And when God asks him to sacrifice his "favorite" son, he does not hesitate to do it! Still today, this remains for me a mystery. Most of the ideas I will explain here are taken from the kabala. Some are more personal view. Abraham represents the kindness, the grace, the infinite love and generosity. In Canaan, Abraham was inviting in his hut everyone and his tent was opened in every direction. Yitzhak is less popular and represents the severity, the fear and heroism at the same time. He was aware that Abraham would sacrifice him and he overcame his fear. In a certain way, Yitzhak is the second generation of serving God. Abraham was serving with Mercy, kindness and Yitzhak is serving with fear, with laws, with...

...William Paley uses the analogy of finding a watch vs. finding a stone in nature, and the complexities of the watch that are not similarly found in something like a stone, to prove that we, as complex beings that can reproduce, must also have a supreme designer the same way a complex watch has a designer. Paley goes through some of the parts of a watch and explains each specific purpose they serve in the mechanism and the great deal of care each piece was placed with. Given the complexities of the watch, it is clear that the watch in question must have had a creator, a designer who made everything as it was for a reason. Even though we may not know a watchmaker personally, or have not seen a watch being made, ancient art being created, etc. we understand that there was someone who created these things at some point in time and these creations served a specific purpose. It is absurd to think that something with a design did not have a designer. Paley then asks us to consider the possibility that the watch in question contained a specific set of parts that would allow it to create another watch like itself. If someone found this watch and then later discovered it could reproduce, the person who found the watch would no doubt see it in a new light and see this as a new reason to believe that a designer put a great deal of thought into this creation. He also uses an analogy of water powered corn grinder to show that although water is unintelligent, the manner in which it is used in...

...If t was an odd positive integer, and the value of the next term would be 3t – 9, then the value would always be an even positive integer. This would always result in a positive even integer because any odd integer that is multiplied by any odd integer will always have an odd integer product. In addition, if the odd integer product was subtracted by another odd integer, then it would always result in an even integer difference. For instance, if t = 5, the next term would be 3(5) – 9 or 6, which is an even positive integer. However, I let t be represented as a, in which it is still an odd positive integer. By knowing that 3a – 9 is always a positive even integer, the expression can be substituted into the expression 2t – 7 as t in order to find the next term b. As a result, the value of the next term b, when t is an even positive integer, would be 2(3a – 9) -7 or 6a – 25. Additionally, the terms of the sequence alternate between two positive integers a and b, where b = 3a – 9 and a = 6a – 25. From the equation, a = 6a – 25, I could easily solve for a: a = 6a – 25 -5a = -25 a = 5 Therefore, a = 5 and when substituted into the equation b = 3a – 9, b = 6. b = 3a – 9 b = 3(5) – 9 b = 15 – 9 b = 6 Finally, the sum of a and b can be determined, thus the sum of the two positive integers in the sequence is 11. a + b = ? 5 + 6 = ? 11 = ? 2. An abundant number is a positive integer, the sum of whose distinct proper factors is greater than the number. (The proper factors of...

...Question#1 There is only two other possibilities 1. Process is blocked while it was in ready state. 2. Process running from blocked state. Only transition 2 is possible because when it is possible that process is waiting for input that is yet not available and it is also possible that operating system has decided to allocate CPU time to any other process. The transition 1 is not possible because when a process Is in ready state it cannot block itself while it is not waiting for input and only in ready state. Question#2 In this problem we have five process i.e. Customer, order takers, cook, packaging specialists, cashiers. We have sequential inter process communication between processes which uses pipes for communication between processes. Our chain of communication should be like this Customer Order Takers Cook packaging specialists Cashiers Question#3 In this problem T=Running time for any process S=switch time for a process Q=time Quantum (a) Q = infinite Process has infinite time quantum Q so it will run until it blocks itself CPU efficiency=Q/Q+S In reality it will be CPU efficiency=T/T+S Since it has infinite time quantum and switch time will be very little as compared to quantum Then efficiency will be CPU efficiency=T/T=1 (b) Q > T In this case CPU has also time quantum greater than process completion time then its efficiency will be CPU efficiency=Q/Q+S This will be CPU efficiency=T/T+S (c) S < Q < T Since Q<T ...

...Chapter 2 Introduction to Optimization & Linear Programming 1. If an LP model has more than one optimal solution it has an infinite number of alternate optimal solutions. In Figure 2.8, the two extreme points at (122, 78) and (174, 0) are alternate optimal solutions, but there are an infinite number of alternate optimal solutions along the edge connecting these extreme points. This is true of all LP models with alternate optimal solutions. 2. There is no guarantee that the optimal solution to an LP problem will occur at an integer-valued extreme point of the feasible region. (An exception to this general rule is discussed in Chapter 5 on networks). 3. We can graph an inequality as if they were an equality because the condition imposed by the equality corresponds to the boundary line (or most extreme case) of the inequality. 4. ...To Infinity and Beyond until Across the Universe Have you ever wondered if there are any extraterrestrial life forms in the universe? An extraterrestrial is defined as life that does not originate from Earth. It is often also referred to as alien. “Alien” is a very familiar word even though many of us have never met or seen them. They are in TV or movies, and especially the Hollywood productions love to make movies about extraterrestrials. For example, ET (1982) is one of the famous SF movies. The alien, ET is very friendly to people, and it has an ability of making object flying. Since they are only a part of blockbuster movies, most of times people are careless about aliens; however, there are many incidents that show they are real. There are three significant signs that prove they are real such as we are able to suspect another life form in an infinite universe, have UFO sighting everywhere in the world, and have experiences of many people’s alien abduction. First, there must be another life form among the limitless galaxies. Since the universe began in the Big Bang about 15 billion years ago, it has constantly expanded. Therefore, the universe is infinite and Earth is just considered like a grain of sand. The universe is divided into two parts; the observable and the non-observable. There are countless planets and solar systems in the observable universe. Is it true that the Earth is the only planet where life exits in the infinite universe? If there are sunlight and...

...Call of Duty: Ghosts is a 2013 first-person shooter video game developed by Infinity Ward, with assistance from Raven Software, Neversoft and Certain Affinity. Published by Activision, it is the tenth primary installment in the Call of Duty series and the sixth developed by Infinity Ward. The video game was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U on November 5, 2013, with Treyarch handling the port for the Wii U. The game was released with the launch of next-generation consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. According to review score aggregator Metacritic, Ghosts received "generally favorable" reviews from critics, with most praising its multiplayer gameplay and introduction of the new game mode Extinction. It was criticized, however, for its single-player campaign, rehashing of familiar concepts, and general lack of innovation.Setup and characters The game's main protagonists are the Ghosts, a force of U.S. Special Operations personnel trained to conduct clandestine missions behind enemy lines. The unit is led by retired U.S. Army Captain Elias Walker (Stephen Lang). He is joined by his sons Logan and David "Hesh" Walker (Brandon Routh), along with a trained German Shepherd named Riley, Captain Thomas A. Merrick (Jeffrey Pierce), and Sergeant Keegan P. Russ (Brian Bloom).[7] Call of Duty: Ghosts is set in an alternate timeline that follows the nuclear destruction of the Middle East. The oil-producing nations of South America form "the Federation"...

...Matt Smith Margaret Neff ENG 112-15 30 January 2012 Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3: A Reinvention of the Shooter Since Activision’s last video game success “Modern Warfare 2” launched in 2009, violence has been used subtly to increase sales. The latest sequel, Modern Warfare 3 has used a variety of minor details to indicate that any gamer that plays it will have ultimate control of the world and what happens in it. The main advertisement was created by Activision’s own Infinity Ward subdivision, Raven Software and Sledgehammer Games. It is well known for reflecting the main idea of the campaign aspect of the game which is, “A single man can change the tide of any war.” This visual’s deep contrast between peaceful and violent aspects drew attention to the idea that whoever is the “strongest” will emerge victorious. This visual depicts a large, blackened soldier holding a large weapon standing in the foreground of a large, white city that also contains various types of military vehicles and personnel. The large silhouette in the foreground establishes a very demanding and overpowering presence compared to the remainder of the military in the image. This overwhelming stance suggests that every decision that is prompted throughout the game directly affects one person. Since the large character is filled in with black, the large weapon and the plethora of his side arms become clearly visible. This showcase of the soldier’s arsenal shows off his toughness and the brutality...

..."An alienating experience." I've been a long time fan of Call of Duty games, I've been hooked since the second title released very long ago. The series for me peaked at Modern Warfare 2. Since then the series for me have never quite matched the same level of enjoyment, with various tweaks here and there but ultimately I've enjoyed the experience. Black Ops 2 trailers looked the business and the overhaul of the create-a-class system the franchise popularised seemed to be a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, what we ended up with is a game from a well established franchise feeling very unpolished and alienating to new a casual gamers alike. CAMPAIGN I started the campaign looking forward to the rollercoaster ride that I had experienced with the previous iterations. Things started exciting enough but the cracks in the foundations showed very early. The problem is, Black Ops campaign is boring. There is nothing more to really say, the AI is poor at best, the level design uninspiring and the scripted moments felt half baked. The campaign has a sort of interactive element to it now, with customisable loadouts and several endings that change based on your decisions. There are also new types of missions that are half Command and Conquer and half horde mode, but really badly implemented and show up the glaring lack in the enemy AI. Overall, this is the poorest campaign in the series, by a huge margin. Which is a shame when I consider Black Ops 1 having the most enjoyable...
