Life is full of surprises. Everyday, we encounter people of all sorts. But only a few leave a lasting impression on our lives. These people could be family, friends, celebrities or just someone we see in a departmental store. They could teach us big lessons from small instances. My father is one such person. He is my hero.

It doesn’t take long to realize how great a father my dad is. He’s the kind of father who always has time for family, the kind of father who is a great leader and the kind who has thoughtful yet fun discussions with his children. If it weren’t for him, life would have been extremely dull. He’s my best friend and I can trust him with just about anything. He’s got his ears open for everything I’ve got to say and advises me through every obstacle.

Growing up with such a great role model, I developed many of his enthusiasms. Not only did I learn to dedicate myself to anything I was doing or learning, but also returning to the community, gratitude in exchange for a new sense of life and spirit.

My father has always been a beacon of support and is synonymous with words like kindness, respect, gratitude and total fun. He always made learning very exciting. Although a disciplinarian, life with dad can never get difficult or boring. I’ve learnt from him to be optimistic and also to accept life as it comes. He is still a child within, because of which he can make life as interesting as a box office hit.

My father always likes a change because he believes that there is so much more to learn from the world. Seventeen years and having moved more than half a dozen times, I have come to value what I have learned from these places, their culture, my friends, my family and myself. I cherish the various worlds my father exposed to me.

Words cannot describe the love my father gives to the family. My mother has been equally supportive. My father has enriched my life with his spirit for learning, dedication and love. His outlook on life is truly exceptional. I hope to use every little value he has taught me. Next year when I move to college, miles away from home, I still know that dad will be by my side-as always.

...Narrowing down to on person who had had an impact on my life is a difficult task, and one that requires a lot of thought. There have been many, but as I travel back through my memories, one person stands out above the rest, my mother. Whether in the classroom or at home, that one individual continuously shines. She knows how to help me when a problem arises, she is there to pick me up when I fall, and she is there as my biggest supporter when all is going well. She always seems to know when to push me or when to just step back and allow me to learn life lessons. One example of her driving me to do my best is a time that I had an extremely tough exam in Chemistry. This was a must pass test and to make it worse, it was over a chapter where I struggled. I came close to giving up and failing the test, but somehow my mom knew I was fighting this battle. She came to me and explained how giving up would interfere with my dream of going to college. It might not keep me out of college, but it would set my standards lower than they needed to be. My mom did not force me to study, but instead, she allowed me to make a decision that would effect me right then and possibly in the future. My mom has made a huge impact in my life in such a positive way. She has pushed me to where I am now. Through her example and our many talks, I have learned that hard work and perserverance can and will take you a long way in this world. I did pass that...

An Influential Perso

...An Influential Person Maneashia Lane English 121 Adam Deutsch February 09, 2015 Introduction Today I would like to introduce you to the most influential person in my life. Her name is Carla Simmons. She is my 41 year sister from Talladega, Al. According to her, growing up she never had a plan or a blueprint for her life. As a result, she never completed anything she started. Consequently, she accomplished her goals later in life. In 2005 she received her Real Estate license. It was a struggle because she was a single mother of two and worked a full-time job. She worked from 6 A.M-4:30 P.M. She went straight to class after work and didn’t get home until 11 PM. She was tired but she was persistent. In 2014, she received a Bachelor degree in Organizational Management from Historical Talladega College. She is now pursuing an MBA in Organizational Management. She knows when to be serious and when to have fun. She surrounds herself with positive people, makes time for herself, does things she enjoys doing, and she constantly thinks about being successful. She is an optimist at heart and she has a very positive outlook on life. First of all, she taught me how to surround myself with positive people because negative people gripe and complain, and have nothing good to say. And no matter how one tries to convince them, they cannot and will not accept that way of thinking. Keeping a positive attitude can be difficult if your audience is negative people, and they are constantly...

...MY MORAL PHILOSOPHY By: Charisse F. Aquisay Philosophy 2 4:00-5:00 MWF P406 Mr. Glendon G. de Guzman October 13, 2010 BA Comm 2 SLU FAMILY The family is indeed the fundamental unit of a society. It is the basic institution which initially influences the growth and development of an individual. Whatever personality the individual has depends on how he was reared in the family. The early stages of one’s life are greatly influential to the overall individuality of a person especially when he has grown up. In the words of Sigmund Freud, “the child is father to the son” – childhood essentially shapes the person’s behavior or character in life. All the systems, feelings, insights and qualities he acquires from childhood is brought by him in one way or another until he grows up into an adult. It is, therefore, vital that a child must be nurtured with sufficient love and care. He must be guided and be exposed to situations which mold him into a better person. As much as possible, he must experience lesser negative, depressing, agitating or even saddening situations for it affects the way he sees things in life as well as his behavior towards certain these kinds of circumstances as he grows up in life no matter how trivial or complicated these may be. According to John Locke, the child’s mind is likened to a tabula rasa or a blank slate. When a child is born, his mind has nothing stored in it. He just knows the basic feelings of pain and comfort. Like a blank sheet...

The Effect of Behaviors and Intercourse on Individuals

...before long many more people are involved. A connection between two people may seem insignificant; however, these connections cause others to experience similar situations. Connections in Sexual Relations Sexual relations are a form of connection. One person may have relations with one person, who has relations with another person, and so on. This type of connection is an indirect connection, meaning a couple’s friends’ friends’ friend can affect the original couple. STD’s are spread indirectly through a community. Supposing that couples follow the no-partner-swapping rule then theoretically, a person could contract an STD from another person through five connections. These different connections referred to as networks. These different networks can range anywhere from a high school setting, to an entire community. It is thought that the “core” of the network is made up of the sexually active individuals; relations between two people in the core continue to sustain the epidemic. The outer portion of the network, or the periphery, consists of the less sexually active people (Christakis and Fowler, 2009, p.102). Through connections between people and sexual relations, STDs have become an epidemic and spread from one person to another through indirect...
