Question 1 The disease that I choose is Influenza or commonly known as the flu. Symptoms of the flu include fever, mild to severe coughs, fatigue, runny nose, headaches, nausea, and soreness of the throat. Influenza is usually self-diagnose by looking at the symptoms however, other viruses could cause symptoms similar to those of the flu. A common test for Influenza is the Rapid Influenza Diagnose Test or RIDT. In the RIDT, a swab is inserted into a patient’s nasal passage way and the swab is rotated to collect samples. The sample put in a tube and mixed with a solution. Then a test strip is placed into the tube to test if it’s positive or negative. The test could provide results in less than 30 minutes but the ability to detect the flu could …show more content…

There it replicates and attacks the lungs, the throat and the nose. This causes the respiratory tracts to become inflamed and swollen which results in the soreness of the throat, runny nose and coughs. When the flu virus is identified by the immune system, the system will direct and focus most of its energy on fighting off the virus with white blood cells which leaves the person feeling fatigued. Oseltamivir works by taking it orally. Once the drug is digested and absorbed by the body it will attach itself to the surface of the flu virus, preventing it from spreading to other cells and infecting them. This allows the virus to be confined in a small area making the infections less severe and easier for the immune system to kill the virus. This drug only alleviates the symptoms of the flu by confining the virus in a smaller area. The mechanism of by which this drug relieves symptoms of the diseases is through hydrolysis. When the drug is taken orally, it undergoes hydrolysis to form a selective inhibitor called GS4071 which binds to the flu virus causing the virus to lose it ability
