...On OKECHUKWU DIYOKE DIOKC81 | 1 INTRODUCTION An economy refers to the full network of distributers, producers and consumers of goods and services within local, regional or national communities. Globalization refers to the process of the increase in economic, political, social and ethnic relations across international boundaries. Globalization is aimed primarily at the constant theories that shape the political and socioeconomic development of nations across the globe. It looks at the continued increase in the collapse of trade barriers and increased world trade and integration; globalization can be seen as an extension that regularly restructures the way nations interact amongst themselves by breaking down their individual barriers in areas of culture, commerce, finance, communication, and several other fields of struggle. This on-going change can be seen from its thrust of legitimate governance, liberal democracy, gender equality, environmental stability, and free market economy among other aggregate values for people of the member states. Globalization creates a compelling inclination for the systematic development in the modern world today as a result of the problems it poses to the states in the form of challenges. This essay looks at the definition of globalisation, the concept of the process of globalization, and how it affects the Nigerian economy. ...Mobile Technology, Social Media and a 180 million peopled Market Introduction “Information technology has for sometime been a wildcard in business, a source of opportunity and uncertainty, of advantage and risk” (Applegate, Austin, & McFarlan, 2007). Advanced economies of the world have in the past three decades taken advantage of Information Technology in all facets of life especially in the utilization of IT to drive efficiency in organizations as well as the linkages between the organization and its internal and external stakeholders. Though technology in advanced economies of the world has become embedded in the everyday life of people especially in the way they define strategy and how business is defined, not much can be said for the advancement of such new technologies in developing Nations due to so many reasons. The main reason for the hitherto poor penetration and utilization of IT in developing countries can be attributed to various factors including poverty, inadequate infrastructure, poor Internet penetration, high cost of energy, corruption and an unstable political system. However the trend seems to be changing since the mid 2000s. Economic index and a potential growth market Nigeria is an example of a developing economy that is embracing IT systems in organizations due to the rapidly growing trend of consumers utilizing the Internet. Internet usage has increased as a result of the increasing use of smart phones, which has in recent years become more...

...Nigeria Summit that the next step was to create a platform for Nigerian businesses to streamline their sales process and join the e-commerce revolution – a Nigerian eBay. Shagaya’s journey is a demonstration of the promise and the direction of Nigeria’s technology industry. The country’s economic rebasing in 2014 demonstrated how far the technology industry has come. Driven by the rise of ICT and telecoms, the new baseline for the economy showed that the service sector was 240% larger than under the previous estimates. The sheer numbers are incredible: Penetration of cellphones in Nigeria is 68% and around a quarter of Nigerians have a smartphone. There are nearly 130 million active mobile connections in the country, up from less than 90 million in 2010 and only a handful at the start of the millennium. With a growing, urbanising population of nearly 170 million people and GDP growth predicted at more than 6.5% per annum for the next four years, the potential commercial opportunity is huge, particularly considering the current gaps in the market. Internet penetration is only around 33%, and just 9.1% of households have internet access directly. Despite the huge appetite for technology, the price of bandwidth is yet to come down to affordable levels for many Nigerians. The arrival of four large fibre-optic cables, including the huge Main One and Glo-1 cables that connect Nigeria’s coast to global communications infrastructure is changing that. The dramatic increase in bandwidth...

...ABSTRACT Electronic banking is a subject receiving great attention in the banking industry and the regulation agencies. It is a driving force that is changing the landscape of the banking industry. It has blurred the boundaries between different financial institutions, enabled new financial, products and services and made existing financial services available in different packages. Some analysis argue that electronic banking is revolutionizing the banking industry, others see it as simply complementing the physical banking branches; irrespective of its own merits there are diverse challenges and problems associated with this form of banking in Nigeria. The main research instruments used are questionnaires and personal interview for staff and customers of various banks, primary and secondary method of data collection were used. The simple frequency percentage was adopted as the statistical measure and hypothesis testing was analyzed using chi-square. ...cannot ignore Information Systems because they play a critical role in contemporary organisation. The application of information and communication technology concepts, techniques, policies and implementation strategies to banking services has become a subject of fundamental importance and concerns to all banks and indeed a prerequisite for local and global competitiveness. ICT directly affects how managers decide, how they plan and what products and services are offered in the banking industry. It has continued to change the way banks and their corporate relationships are organized worldwide and the variety of innovative devices available to enhance the speed and quality of service delivery. Harold and Jeff (1995) contend that financial service providers should modify their traditional operating practices to remain viable in the 1990s and beyond, they claim that the most significant shortcoming in the banking industry today is a wide spread failure on the part of senior management in banks to grasp the importance of technology and incorporate it into their strategic plans accordingly, Woherem (2000) claimed that only banks that overhaul the whole of their payment and delivery systems and apply ICT to their operations are likely to survive and prosper in the new millennium. He advices banks to re-examine their service and delivery systems in order to properly position them within the framework of the dictates of the dynamism of information and communication technology. The banking...

This paper underscores the importance of entrepreneurship as a realistic mechanism for sustainable economic growth in Nigeria considering the experiences of developed nations like the United States and vibrant economies like China and India. The paper discusses that entrepreneurship has been instrumental in economic growth, balanced regional development and job creation in most dynamic economies, where technology is changing at a faster rate and the product lifetime cycle is shrinking. The methodology adopted in this paper is the narrative-textual case study (NTCS); it is a social science research method that relies on the information and data from several sources for problem-solving or problem-identification. The paper reveals that the right Journal of Sustainable Development Studies ...
