In my opinion, I believe the patient and physician (nurse) relationship was well established. The medical interview performed was very effective and efficient. She was able to gather information, develop and maintain a therapeutic relationship, and was able to communicate with him. The patient seemed to trust the practitioner and disclosed information that people withhold (smoking). The patient was able to be honest in letting her know he smoked and abused antibiotics (prescribed and quit taking them). The practitioner was very warm and inviting which may have led to the patient being more open and relaxed and not feeling anxious with the practitioner. Some people develop white-coat syndrome when they are around doctors, nurses, or any medical type person. White coat syndrome is when the blood pressure surges when measured in the doctor’s office. However, I do not think his high blood pressure was the cause of white coat syndrome. I believe his smoking is a contributing factor to that because he seemed relaxed during the medical interview. 2. Learning to read is of course anything but a race, but getting a good start is as vital in learning to read as it is in any race. Children who fall behind in school at an early age seldom catch up. Studies have found that children who were classified as poor readers at the end of first grade had an 88% chance of being poor readers at the end of fourth grade (Jenkins & Vadasy, 2000). Countless studies have been conducted to determine the effect of parental involvement on students reading achievement. Observations and interviews suggested that parental activity increased children’s reading skill acquisition or enthusiasm, which, resulted in success in reading. All results indicated that parental involvement in reading has a considerable impact on students reading achievement. The findings support that parental involvement plays a part in fostering children’s cognitive growth and academic success. Research done in this area has been quantitative in nature in that studies have looked at the relationship and/or the cause and effect of parental involvement and reading achievement. There has been little qualitative data collected in this particular area. The focus was primarily on assessing students’ improvement in Reading Comprehension after learning a comprehension strategy and also to determine students’ willingness to apply the/a newly learnt strategy for comprehension tasks in a grade five classroom. As a result, the researcher will include the aforementioned strategy for all comprehension lessons that will be taught during the six week period which has been allotted. The researcher will keep track of all events during this period by way of journal entries for the purpose of reflection, record keeping and referral for follow-up lessons. An end of term exam will be designed accordingly and administered to students. Looking at the results of the post-test, even the weakest students showed a remarkable improvement in reading comprehension.
