For this research paper I will be analyzing six web pages. Based on the e-business I’m creating, three business pages I’m reviewing are: Essay Lab, Smart Writing Services and Ninja Essays. The remaining three web sites are: Suffolk Community College, Nassau Community College and Dr. Ebrahimi’s website. To begin with, Essay Lab is one of the three writing service businesses I’ve selected. The home page of this particular business is informative and gives a good idea of what the business is about and why would a person need to use their service. The theory of rhetorical perspectivism was introduced by Hikins and Cherwitz. They formulated this notion in response to a claim that believed that discourse and rhetoric should enjoy epistemic status. Moreover, discourse shouldn’t be used informatively of insights, but rather used to discover such insights (Hikins & Cherwitz, 1983,1986). Rhetorical perspectivism aims to bridge the gap between rhetorical objectivists and rhetorical subjectivism as a work in epistemology. Objectivists think that knowledge exists first, then is discovered through discourse. Subjectivists think that knowledge is constructed by the discourse and does not exist until it is built, that is the search that creates knowledge. Perspectivists, such as Hikins and Cherwitz, come along and say that everything takes place from different contexts- meaning knowledge exists, but we see it from our lens- essentially to reconcile two seemingly contradictory ideas as ‘two sides of the same coin’. In this essay, I will discuss metacognition in depth, as well my previous scores from earlier in the year, my newest scores as of July 2014 and how I apply metacognitive techniques in my own life. Metacognition is thinking about learning whilst consciously or even subconsciously controlling the learning process in your brain. Per Vanderbilt.edu, metacognition also "refers to the processes used to plan, monitor, and assess one's understanding and performance". This can be a difficult concept to grasp for some, but when broken down, it all becomes very simple. Ask yourself this: "How do you think"? For example, you're on a road trip and are close to your destination but are a little lost getting to a hotel. You stop and ask for directions. Would you personally benefit more from writing the directions down, listening to a GPS for street names or looking for certain landmarks? The fact that you are even thinking about how you should go about learning and remembering the directions is a metacognitive technique.
