... August 12, 2013 Carteret EMS as an Ideal Learning Organization Service delivery with any public service organization due to today’s economic downturn, current concerns, and budgetary considerations to help improve efficiency, but also can affect its capabilities as a learning organization. This is especially relevant in Carteret County, North Carolina and its office of Emergency Management in the application of pre-hospital emergency medical services or EMS to the citizens and visitors of this Atlantic Coast community. This is mandated by North Carolina General Statute G.S. 143-517, which mandates that “county governments are key players (Moore, p. 3)” and are responsible for local provision of pre-hospital emergency care. This includes personnel, equipment, financing, level of service and delivery, as well as maintaining a progressive learning environment. This reflection will take into consideration the most compelling characteristics; their observable behaviors and results; barriers and how they are overcome; as well as resulting and future strategies to overcome present and future barriers this organization will encounter, which leads me to my succinct thesis. This reflection will show that the Carteret County, North Carolina’s Emergency Medical Services is a progressive, professional, and effective learning organization that will advance well into the future to serve the citizens and visitors...

..."There is ample evidence that high quality early education and childcare services can improve children's development, learning and behaviour. We also know that a well qualified professional workforce is by far the most important factor in delivering the best quality of services that give children the best possible start in life" Scottish executive (2006, p1) The national review of the early years and childcare workforce has brought about positive change within the early years sector. Focus was given to develop leadership within the profession. The Scottish executive collaborated with the Scottish social services council to amend the registration requirements for lead practitioners and managers from 2011. This was to ensure a new degree level qualification was attained by staff working in a lead practitioner/management position. The processes and outcomes are evaluated with respect to the effectiveness of service learning as an educational means and the contribution to the nonprofit sector made by service learning initiatives. The findings include the benefit of the initial ambiguity of the service learning project and the benefit of the project outputs to the nonprofit agency. It is concluded that researchers may need to figure out the absolute relationship between initial ambiguity and the effectiveness of a service learning project and that between project outputs and the benefits received by the organization concerned. It is also concluded that researchers need to study how to keep participants’ passion towards the nonprofit sector after completion of their service learning project. ...Windshield Survey Reflection Shane P. Donald NUR/405 May 19, 2014 Cynthia Januale Windshield Survey Reflection A windshield survey was conducted of the Fall Creek community just north of downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. The focus of the survey was an initial assessment and overall impression of the community where the participating family lives. According to Stanhope and Lancaster, (2012, p.190) community is defined as a "social network of interacting individuals, usually concentrated in a defined territory". Individuals, grocery stores, and hospitals are just a few examples of what makes up a community. Community health refers to "the meeting of collective needs by identifying problems and managing behaviors within the community itself and the relationship between the community and the larger society" (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2012, p. 401). Indicators used for assessment of community health include infant mortality rate, number of motor vehicle crashes, childhood poverty rates, lung cancer rates, and other data used to develop a broad definition. The Phrase "community as a client" refers to the focus of nursing in an integrative model for community health promotion. It is important to remember that community oriented care is population focused, addressing the complex mix of health problems, clients, and levels of care within the system. Partnerships in the context of communities as the clients refer to shared responsibility for outcomes between nursing and the...

Within this assignment Transformational Leadership will be critically analysed, in relation to the leadership role of the specialist public health nurse. Leadership within the National Health Service (NHS) continues to play an essential role and historical leaders such as Florence Nightingale (Kitching, 1993) had an effect on policy. This influenced change towards development and an up to date change would include the Darzi Review (2008) that discusses improvement of quality of care. Leadership is discovering the route ahead, while making others feel enthusiastic about following (Bass, 1985). This would include an influential and inspiring attitude along with other personal attributes that are needed; such as emotional intelligence, that addresses the effect of people’s feelings...

...potentially most exciting area of the new GCSE specifications is the Studying Spoken Language section of the Controlled Assessment for GCSE English Language. The focus of this unit is investigative, asking candidates to explore their own spoken language and/or that of others, including perhaps spoken language in media and technologies such as internet messaging services. Sample Controlled Assessment tasks are available online so that you can see the type of tasks that will be set. All of the tasks are fairly open-ended so that you can help individual students tailor their research to suit their interests and the type of data available to them. One of the teachers who has done a trial of the new unit said, ‘the tasks were greeted with enthusiasm and the ability to connect what we were exploring to the wider context. The tasks lead to independent study which meant there was a good deal of ownership for the students.’ 8 Teachers who have trialled the unit have given us some very useful feedback on which we can base further support. One important point is that giving enough time and thought to the initial data collection pays dividends in terms of the level of analysis which students can carry out. The script and commentary on the following pages are examples of the further resources you can see online at http://web.aqa.org.uk/englishLangA These are provided to demonstrate ways of approaching this exciting new unit. We are very grateful to those schools who...

...The following reflection explores my experience and learning as I venture into higher education via online learning this semester. As part of this exploration, I have reviewed my learning of time management techniques, motivation theories, deep and surface approaches to learning against the backdrop of this journey. I have included the thinking of others, my own experience and how this has and will affect my engagement online in the future. I have had mixed experiences over the past six weeks, when working through the materials and activities. However, I consider that both the positive and negative events have led me to reflect and develop a deeper understanding of the practice associated with online learning and each of the topics (Biggs & Moore 1993). I continue to work at each of the tasks required and apply a ‘read extra’ approach. This is challenging in the time available. However, I came into this degree wanting to learn as much as possible. Time management techniques, as reflected in my journal, allow me to stop, reflect on priorities and get organised. I have long term and daily planners (Time Management, p.2). I am also applying the 80/20 Pareto Principle. I take regular breaks and reduce the work periods. These are productive and achievable chunks of study (Jay 2002, p.68). I now know that not only does this provide a structured approach to my learning, but it also gives me a sense of control. I mentioned in my journal, that I have post-polio syndrome...

...There are probably as many methods of delivery as there are public speakers. Each orator has his own way of going about the business of delivering a talk. Whatever the method, the audience will want to discover it. In general, the audience will find out whether the speech is delivered from memory, from manuscript, or extempore; and, if the latter, whether the man spoke with or without notes. The orator’s notes, when obtainable, also throw light upon the total portrait of a speaker. They give some hint as to the way in which ideas are integrated; how effectively the orator controls the details; and how he adapts a previously prepared plan to the exigencies of a particular audience situation. The orator’s own reflections on his method, when obtainable, are of real service. Some orators, for instance, use extempore method of delivery; they neither write the speech in full nor commit it to memory. However, they frequently write out and memorize their introductions and conclusions, as well as selected illustrations in the body of certain speeches. A second inquiry which may yield interesting information on the ways of an orator is: Do the speaker’s physical characteristics contribute to his effectiveness? There has been some disposition to build up a stereotype of the orator as a large, imposing-looking person. Presumably it is felt that a man of majestic mien has a better chance of success with the fluctuating behavior of audiences than a man of less attractive bearing. Thus certain...
