CREATIVITY and INNOVATION

Creativity is necessary for Innovation. Innovativeness is made, not born. Creativity can be inborn or comes in sparks .Creativity is the prerequisite for Innovation. In an essay on Creativity Teresa Amabile and others describe innovation as “the successful implementation of creative ideas within the an organization”Creativity which includes invention is the starting point of innovation , a necessary but not sufficient condition of it. we can never segregate the two terms and it goes hand in hand creativity and innovation are like sparks of the same thunder or lightning-if the fire of creativity is taken up it is innovation,and sometimes the same fire can even destroy the existing creative ideas taking up new ones. According to political scientist and economist Schumpeter(who lived from 1883 to 1950) he says that waves of innovation crash down on established enterprise,washing them away and leaving new ones in their place, seems particularly appropriate.

3.Analysis of correlation of creativity and innnovation

Business Model
This is the sense of innovation in the broader context of companies and markets. Innovation’s meaning here is to alter the landscape.”Ray Meads”: A patentable solution (external verified uniqueness) with a differentiated business model that changes the basis of business for that specific industry sector. “Julia Fischer Baumgartner”: My definition of radical innovation: a new product, process, or system that replaces its accepted predecessor and renders it obsolete. “avigail berg”: Reorganize the particles with new added components that shift the value to new business opportunities.
Applied Invention
Invention is the creation of something new., It’s when an invention becomes useful to others that it becomes an innovation.”Jatin H. DeSai”: Creativity is when you use money to get ideas. Innovation is when you use ideas to make money.Thomas Mathiasen: Innovation: what is New, Useful and Applied. “Braden Kelley”: Innovation transforms the useful seeds of invention into solutions valued above every existing alternative. “Harry Vardis”: Ideas that pass through the business model and meet with acceptance by the end users. “Peter Balbus”: Ideation is applied knowledge; creativity is applied ideation; invention is applied creativity; and innovation is the successful commercialization or adoption of radical invention. “Barry Bassnett”: Creativity is what happens when imagination has focus; innovation is what happens when creativity has a bottom line; enterprise is what happens when innovation meets ability, entrepreneurship is what happens when all the aforementioned are put on the same cart and passion becomes the fuel.

Problem-Solving
In this meaning of innovation, the focus is on addressing issues and challenges. The existing mode of operation has issues, and a new approach is needed.”Madhusudan Rao”: Finding Newer & Better bottles to recycle the old wine. End objective remains the same but you want to achieve it in a better way. “Kurt Nahikian”: Innovation results when a new approach is applied to an old problem that makes lasting and far-reaching changes in behavior. “Bill Flynn”: Innovation is the creation of solutions to problems that have opposing requirements.
Unmet User Needs
This is a “classic approach to innovation”. It’s very much along the lines of Clayton Christensen’s “job to be done”. The term here is “users”, as the unmet needs may be for customers as well as other people in a system or value chain.”Mike Dalton”: The organization-wide process of finding and profitably serving unmet market needs. “A Michele Davies”: The creation of new products or services which provide value to my marketplace in one form or another, and which use my existing resources. “Uday Pasricha”: Something is innovative when it creates a tangible added value for both user/developer; using existing, wasted or yet unnoticed resources. ”Hans Haringa”: Innovation: ‘something’ used by ‘some’ but opposed by ‘many’ but over time accepted by all. “Ellen Weber PhD”: An invention or intervention – that shows evidence of a valued solution, garners support of decision makers, and offers mutual benefits for a wider community – by drawing insights from diverse people across several related fields. “Dick Lee”: Delivering exceptional to the most important customer in the value chain, all the time, every time. “Hutch Carpenter”: A change in a product offering, service, business model or operations which meaningfully improves the experience of a large number of stakeholders.
Creativity can also be enhanced in an organization or persons through some of the tested methods .it has also been found in many research studies that creativity can be enhanced over a period of time at least a minimum of 2 years to be really productive .appropriability of innovation plays an important role. Creativity can be enhanced by following methods in developing an innovative idea creativity can also be simulated or created by modifying some environmental factors. Concept development Methods:
Creative mechanisms also exist and there are different creativity techniques and tools available ,though creativity is an inborn talent ,methods exist where creativity can be developed .the creative concept development techniques can be grouped into three mechanisms creativity cannot flourish in boundaries but still it can flourish in the ever changing
1.unstructured creative mechanisms
2. structured creative mechanisms
3.highly structured creative mechanisms.
Unstructured creative mechanisms:
BrainStorming:The basic rule is all ideas should be accepted without criticism.SCAMPER technique can be used for brainstorming ideas
S—Any substitute idea available?
C—Is a combination of ideas possible?
A—what can you adapt?
M—How could you magnify, minimize, and suggest multiple ideas?
P—what could you put to other use?
E—Anything else?
R—Any rearrangement and reversal possible
Nominal Group Technique: (NGT)In this technique all the members are asked to write down their ideas after the problem is given, if irrelevant ideas are presented such ideas are removed and all relevant ideas are jotted down and accordingly ideas are clustered.
Competitive review technique: The activities of competitors are tracked and based on that an idea is developed.
Avoidance technique: questions are asked why we choose a particular idea and why not other ideas.
Big winner technique: how ,winners have achieved success their reasons are evaluated and analysed to find out what are the factors which led to their success and the factors are taken into consideration to develop something new or use the same existing idea.
Creative Stimuli Technique: certain words are brainstormed and their associations are analysed and developed and in the process a new innovative idea is developed
Synetics: the notion in this process is creativity cannot be achieved in a sequential process and hence in this process of creativity unrelated topics are discussed and it is later connected to the original idea.this is also an effective technique.
Bunches of Banana technique: a dull atmosphere is triggered by giving a statement and based on those statements some unrelated or new concepts or ideas may develop.
