Market Paper

...-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eat Your Heart Out | Paper Magazine Does a Super (Duper) Market Culture, Food By JANE HERMANJuly 13, 2012, 1:30 pm 2 Comments Paper Magazine's Super (Duper) Market Atisha Paulson Brucie Atisha Paulson Scribe Winery Atisha Paulson 123Loading “I’m crying. And dying,” Paper magazine’s Kim Hastreiter says halfway through the tour of her Super (Duper) Market, which will be open Friday through the weekend in Manhattan’s meatpacking district. She is completely elated and, more important, satiated, by what’s in store: “The best ice cream (Humphry Slocombe), the best cornbread (Red Rooster), the best olive oil (Sciabica’s),” she says. Here, at what is a smorgasbord of carefully procured and exquisitely packaged food stuff, all the stars of Hastreiter’s bicoastal culinary-craft world collide. The vendors hail mostly from Brooklyn (Empire Mayonnaise, Morris Kitchen, Mile End) and California’s Bay Area (Boulettes Larder, Modern Appealing Clothing, Tartine Bakery and Cafe). “I’m kind of a maven, and these are really my favorite things,” says Hastreiter pointing to the Tang Brothers noodle stand. “Those are, like, the best noodles.” Walk through the mart and you might sample homemade mozzarella on honey-drizzled toast from the Cobble Hill restaurant Brucie, buy a Sol LeWitt star bowl (Hastreiter’s pick) at...

Crispin's Inspirational Words Bear Analysis

...One of the most inspirational words Bear told Crispin was, "Think of what you might become if you were cleansed of thirteen years of dirt, neglect, and servitude ( Avi 119)." What Bear is trying to tell Crispin is to move on from the past and become someone better and someone confident. This influenced Crispin because it changed him for the better. Overtime, Crispin is slowly become more confident. For example, at first, Crispin didn't know how to play the recorder and didn't think that he could. Bear kept on pushing him to try harder. Major In Success Patrick Combs Analysis

...When you find what you are truly good at, it will “propel to success.” (Combs, 4) Once you do find the things someone is best at, these interests can quickly turn into parts of your career. That is one of the most essentials points to becoming successful. Combs’ examples and quotes support his argument, such as the quote Jeffrey Allen stated,  “Most successful people enjoy their work. The real issue is not what’s “hot” but what you like to do.” This quote applies to this theory because you can be anything you want in life. Everyone have every right to choose to be what they dream of. Basically, everything is at the ease of your...

Personal Reflection

...Running head: PERSONAL REFLECTION Reflection of my Time Amy Wofford CSS101-24 September 18, 2014 Dr. Nash Returning to school after graduating high school over a decade earlier, is scary. Needless to say I was anxious, and ready to quit before I even started. Carver (n.d.) once said “Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom” I used that quote as motivation. The continuing of my education was always something that was there but in the back of my mind. Being at a crossroads in my life, there were things that we do in our daily lives were becoming harder to do. Paying bills and being able to keep food on the table, were becoming so overwhelming. As I sat down one day and thought about how I get myself out of the situation I was in, I decided to make that call. By the end of the day I was enrolled in Independence University and was about to earn my associates in Business Management and Accounting As I sit here and reflect on the last 4 weeks of my Psychology of Motivation class, I realize I should have done this before. I was expecting this transition to be hard. I am a single mom of 4 kids, three of them who are attending school themselves. I was so happy to find out that being an online learner is really working in my favor. I don’t even have to leave my house to attend my classes. I have time to learn at my own pace and still...

Similarities Between Malcolm X And Martin Luther King Jr

...For Example, Martin Luther King’s tone during his speech was inspirational and convincing through the choice of words and the personal effect that he put into his “I Have a Dream” speech. He used many powerful tones in his quotes for instance in the excerpt about MLK’s speech mentioned how powerful and convincing this quote sounded “One day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed!” and because of this quote many whites believed that we should unite. Differing from MLK’s tone/mood Malcolm X had a totally different tone and mood because his speech was full of an aggressive tone because according to Malcolm’s actual speech “God’s Judgment” his use of words in specific quotes were aggressive such as “wicked race” and “race of devils” which he was referring to as the...

Eastern Lit + Haiku

...Kabir During the 14th century in India, the Vijayanagar Empire was in power with the Sangama dynasty based in southern India. It was established in 1336 and lasted until 1646, but was on the decline since the 1500s due to losing battles with the military. During the rule of the Vijayanagar Empire, the empire revolutionized the way Hindu temples were constructed architecturally. During this century, according to legend, the mystic poet Kabir was born. Kabir is an Arabic name that means “The Great” which is also the 37th name of God in Islam. No one is sure how he was born, but legend says he was a virgin birth or the son of a Brahman widow. Though, it is known that he was brought up by a muslim family that weaved for a living. In the Indian tradition, Kabir is known to have lived over 120 years, which would be from the late 14th century to the 16th, but others believe that his death occurred in the middle of the 15th century. Another traditional legend about his death was that when he passed away, the Muslims and Indians fought over who got the last rights, because he was raised by muslims, yet lived in India. When they lifted the cloth covering his body, however, they found flowers instead of his body. Kabir was a very important person in Indian history especially with his philosophic ideas. Kabir mixed both Muslim and Indian concepts into his own ideas. He took the Hindu ideas of reincarnation, which is life after death being reborn, and Karma, which is that all of your...
