...INSTAGRAM Story of the innovation Instagram, as a free online photo sharing application with unique filters and social media networking opportunities, has first been launched by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger in October 6, 2010 on Apple’s App Store. The development of the application first began in San Francisco Silicon Valley, with the attempt of the creators to launch the service application using their HTML5 mobile web application knowledge which they have first started through a check-in project named Brbn. With the inspiration the two owners got from their observations through Brbn that people would actually tend to share more photos on online applications, they decided to evolve the idea into a more specialized and innovative one, which is Instagram. The mobile photography application was first started on launch, with the seed funding $500.000 which was once provided by Baseline Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz in March 2010 while the owners were working for Brbn. Starting from November 2010 after the launch of the application on Apple’s App Store, new employees as community manager, engineers and community evangelist were started to be hired for the Instagram project, which has become a company by then. It is stated by the owners that it took only 8 weeks to build and ship Instagram, however, it was a product of a year of work. The co-founders were at working for Brbn at the beginning of their idea generation and innovation stage, which was giving the service of being...

...Bohol INSTAGRAM (Android Application) A term paper submitted in partial fulfillment of the Requirements for the degree of BACHELOR OF SCIENCE in INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY by: Josie Marie Mosqueda Edralyn Tutor 2012 ABSTRACT Today the folks responsible for one of the most popular social photography apps in the world have brought that entertainment to Android– and here we’re going to review it! What you’ll find is that this app is extremely similar to the iOS version, it having the ability to snap photos, edit them in brief, and send them out to several social networks. This Android version is said to be superior to the iOS version in several ways by its developers. This app got extremely popular on iOS because it allowed (and still allows) you to do three different activities in one app – photography, sharing, and editing of photos. Here on Android you’ve got several of those abilities built in – the HTC One series in-particular has some pretty amazing photo editing, taking, and sharing abilities. INTRODUCTION An important application for the tech-savvy crowd, Instagrams are all about the beauty of capturing moments through man-made lenses and sharing it with your near and dear! As Will Smith says “ Life is not about number of breadths you take, it is about number of moments take your breath away”. ...McCullagh, D., & Tam, D. (2012). Instagram Apologizes to Users: We Won't Sell Your Photos. Retrieved from http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-57559890-93/instagram-apologizes- to-users-we-wont-sell-your-photos/ This article focused on the issue that Instagram faced when the company decided to change some terms and conditions. The authors started with explaining the essential problem which was the language from its legal terms that would let users’ photos to be used or sold for other companies (McCullagh & Tam, 2012). Furthermore, the article stated and analyzed the company’s CE respond along with the user’s disagreements to the new terms. The authors explained the language Instagram wanted to use, and compared these terms of using personal pictures with Google+ and Yahoo. Also, the way the new terms policy would be viewed has been mentioned which was about using public pictures on ads if users decided to delete their accounts. This article has many interesting points that related to the language of terms and conditions. What if users did not complain about a specific language and make this condition vague? As long as developers write a lot of terms and conditions’ pages, they should explain more rather than make some points vague. Users should be aware of using their own personal pictures especially with Instagram since this application is blowing up these days. Not only this application, but with any other application or website that deals with sharing and dealing with personal...

...Instagram requires no introduction. Since launching in 2010, it has grown so rapidly and acquired such a vast and loyal user base that it is one of the few social networks whose name has made it into everyday English (it’s even a verb, depending on who you talk to). And Instagram’s star has only continued to rise in the aftermath of its acquisition by Facebook – while once the private domain of iPhone users, it is now compatible with any Apple or Android device. Some users have expressed concern over plans to introduce native advertising, which the official Instagram blog has attempted to assuage by saying that the intention is to “focus on delivering a small number of beautiful, high-quality photos and videos from a handful of brands that are already great members of the Instagram community.” And according to Steve Olenski at Forbes, “there will be no shortage of brands chomping at the proverbial bit to be part of the ‘small number’… Instagram’s growth has been so substantial that it now rivals Google and Pinterest in terms of brand adoption.” Olenski based his assertion on a recent study by Simply Measured, which indicates that brand adoption on Instagram is up 40% on last year. Another salient point highlighted by the study is that automotive, media and luxury brands dominate in terms of engagement on Instagram – and these engagement levels are continuing their growth. Brand engagement has increased by 350% in the last year, due to more and more brands embracing the platform...

...LENS CRAFTER Instagram founder Kevin Systrom, photographed at Ocean Beach, in San Francisco. There’s no picture of the moment when everything changed for Kevin Systrom. But if there were, it would look something like this: A lanky, very tall, dark-haired man in his late 20s sits on a bench at the Caltrain commuter station in Palo Alto, California. A sepia tone and weathered patina might underscore the mood of weighty contemplation. It was early April of last year, and Systrom was waiting for his business partner, Mike Krieger, to arrive from San Francisco. Systrom had just left Mark Zuckerberg’s nearby house and was still digesting the offer that the Facebook founder and C.E.O. had made him: to buy Instagram, the photo-sharing app that Systrom and Krieger had launched just 18 months before. The price Zuckerberg offered was $1 billion—$300 million in cash and the rest in Facebook stock, an especially generous-seeming deal, on the eve of his company’s much-anticipated initial public offering. The offer was even more impressive given Instagram’s size and age. At the time, it had just 13 employees, operating out of a cramped space in the South Park section of San Francisco. Still, the small crew had managed to attract 30 million iPhone users in just a year and a half by offering a service that allowed a person to quickly upload, prettify through the use of filters, and publish images to the Web for friends to see. A version for Google’s Android mobile operating system had launched...

...If the internet was going to shut down I would finish watching “Fuller House” season three, and lastly go on Instagram and Snapchat one last time. I am pretty sure everyone else would go on all their social medias one last time. The world today is nothing but the internet so the people on Earth will probably spend their last hour on social media or Netflix. Spending my last hour on social media says I’m connected to Instagram and Snapchat. Internet is entertaining to me. On my 18th birthday I will not be leaving the USA for all the rights I have here. I have my freedom in this country, but more importantly I have my family and friends. If I were to leave I may not to be able to ever see them again. In the USA, I can also travel to tropical...

...The Development of Instagram as a Social Media Tool Introduction More than twenty years after its commercial launch, the internet is now an important distribution channel, as well as an essential basis for consumer information and empowerment. The rise of the social and digital media has revolutionized the online environment tremendously. Novel applications for social correspondence are replacing the traditional mass print media. The social media landscape is an ephemeral place. New networks emerge every time, and it is almost impossible to keep track of what works and what does not work. With the many social media applications, the rise of online visual content sharing has brought about further changes in the social media landscape across various industries (Christiansen, B., Yildiz, S., & Yildiz, E. 2014, 213). The rapid growth of visual content sites such as Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Vine, and Twitter demonstrates how visual content has become widespread in social media, particularly in industries such as beauty and fashion, which rely heavily on visual representations and aesthetics. In the current social media landscape, brands are trying out the power of visual content in encouraging consumer engagement. Concurrent to this trend, Instagram is now growing faster than any other social networking site (SNS). According to Pew Research, while Facebook continues to be the most popular social networking site, Instagram appears to the fastest growing (Southern, M. 2014...

...Are Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram worth it to get? | EN1420 Composition II | Are Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram worth it to get? Most people, seeing that millions actively use them, would say yes. I on the other hand, say no! I used to take part with each of these social media sites and as a user did not find them useful and actually found them to hinder my life. Many issues happen with work and home life; not to mention so many people are “addicted” and say too much or look at them way too often. Since the rise of social media sites in 2004 when Facebook went public to all, the American culture has become a very open, nosy, tell all population. Throughout my research I focused on the user perspectives and the negative sides of the sites; along with the Terms and conditions or behind the scenes aspects of the three sites. Focusing on just the user point of view at this point most people that use Facebook to begin with have features of their locations or tell the world of Facebook their day to day story including where they are going and what they are doing. This allows for people to stalk each other and know people’s daily routines giving the bad people of the world easy access to do what they would like. From personal experience Facebook can cause issues at work and within a household or relationship. You can send and receive messages and hide many wrong doings on Facebook. People can have secret relationships through Facebook with messaging or the IM feature...

...surprise to learn that Facebook had interest in acquiring Instagram, In April of 2012, Facebook acquired Instagram for one billion dollars, for their photo sharing mobile app. Instagram is a social network site that is an online photo and video sharing and network service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, put on digital filter to them, and share them on a variety of social networking services, like Facebook. The merge between Facebook and Instagram is considered one of the largest merging tech deals to date. Some would say it was a good move for Facebook to merge with the up and coming social networking sites, because it would increase users along as keeping their loyal users, by providing new features that Instagram offers. Others observing may say Facebook acquiring Instagram was clearly a defensive move, made in order for Facebook to keep its leading spot in social media network sites, and would probably say the merge is a bad business move because of its hastiness of spending one billion dollars for a startup company with no revenue at the time. However, the two companies merging was a historical moment in business history. One reason I feel Facebook decided to acquire Instagram, is because they saw an opportunity to expand on their own business and improve their photo apps, which is the services that Instagram currently provide to its users. By the merge, Facebook users can now access their Instagram photos or vice versa. According the article in VenturBeat...

...Beatrice Iheuwa College Writing II Social Media – Rough Draft Fall 2009 Instagram is an online mobile photo sharing application through social networking, this enables users to share videos and pictures and connect them with other social networking platforms like Facebook and twitter. In October 2010 Instagram was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger as a free mobile application and then it rapidly gained attention and grew in popularity with over 100 million active users in April 2012 and over 300 million as of December 2014. Instagram was then acquired by Facebook Co-founder Mark Zuckerberg for about $1 Billion dollars and Facebook got all rights to user’s photos and to sell user’s photos to a third party without notification or compensation. The person I chose to interview is my best friend Susan, I have known Susan for about 10 years now and one thing I know about her is that she loves attention and loves taking pictures. I believe Instagram was made for her. Susan first learned about Instagram sometime in 2011 being that Instagram started on October 6th 2010 so she wasn’t too late in signing up like the rest of us. She said the first time she signed up she wasn’t too savvy about the application she just loved the fact that she could take pictures and then filter them however she likes then upload them into the app for the whole world to see. Susan’s first post was a picture of her face which we now call a selfie, she said whenever she did her makeup and hair...
