...Intercessory Prayer HLT 302 Grand Canyon University Gloria Jordan February 2, 2011 After reviewing Jaroff’s article which was about a research study of the effects of intercessory prayer, on woman who wanted to conceive children and who had underwent in-vitro fertilization in order to do so. The study was conducted to see if having the woman prayed for along with the in-vitro fertilization process, would prayer impact the success rate. According to the research some were successful, but when the research was viewed by other researchers the finding were found to be invalid and that the researchers themselves, unqualified to conduct such studies. From the patients point if view their main goal was to have a child, and not being able to do so by natural means opted to undergo in-vitro fertilization, which is a process that may not produce the desires response one hundred percent of the time. Being prayer for did not in any way cause harm to the women who were prayed for, because they were unaware that it was being done. This writer feels that in spite the fact that other researchers found that the study was bogus, the woman who were able to conceive would have welcomed the intervention of prayer if given the choice. In the Bible there are examples in the stories of woman who were barren and prayed to be able to conceive a child, a few of these woman are Hannah, Sarah, Rebecca and Elizabeth. ...

...Prayer: The Timeless Secret of High-Impact Leaders Book Critique Submitted by: Shannon J. Cockrell Student ID: L23353600 Submitted to: Dr. Jim O'Neill EVAN 670 Liberty Theological Seminary January 19, 2015 INTRODUCTION “Much prayer equals much power”, is a quote I’ve heard most my Christian adult life. Dr. Earley asks a thought-provoking question, “How would you rate your prayers?” (p.111) Truth be told, I wasn’t very powerful. Sure I prayed in the morning and at night, but I wasn’t seeing the results I saw that prayer brought about in the Scriptures. Prayer: The Timeless Secret Of High-Impact Leaders by Dr. Dave Earley is a life-transforming book. Earley has written a treatise on prayer that will be a classic for years to come. In this brief critique/review I will give an overview, summary of the chapters, critique, and application. SUMMARY “Leadership is influence…Prayer influences men by influencing God to influence them.” (Earley, x). Wow. What a powerful summary of his own book that Earlely gives us. This book is about influence and how prayer can better enable and position us to be better influences in the world. To lead better, we must pray better. Earley uses “Nine Prayer Disciplines of High-Impact Spiritual Leaders” to serve as the framework of his book. In chapter 1, entitled Value the Power of Prayer, Earley elaborates on the dynamic power that is found in prayer. Earley says, “If you want to maximize your impact, prioritize your...

...After doing so, however, what does a Christian look like in their day to day living? What things does a follower of Christ actively do and participate in that reflects who they are and who’s they are? Two things that are important for me to engage in and display as a Christian are prayer and worship. Part One (Prayer) The Bible does not specifically give a definition of prayer. We can only look at what it says about prayer and the references it makes to prayer in order to understand what it is. By doing so, we can conclude that prayer is simply talking to God, either audibly or inaudibly, and expressing our feelings and thoughts to Him. It is how we communicate with God. Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” We can pray on behalf of ourselves or for someone else. “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” (James 5:16 NIV) Through prayer we either tell God things or we ask Him questions. There are numerous examples in the Bible of individuals asking God questions through prayer. For example, David asks God on several different occasions what kind of military...

...arduous hours in Gethsemane to find strength to face the Cross. “He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears” (Heb. 5:7). We, on the other hand, have mastered the art of one-liners in prayer, and think if we give God a two-hour service once a week we’re fairly spiritual. “Easy does it” might be good advice in a few situations, but for most of life, including prayer, easy doesn’t do it. Anyone long associated with the Church of this century, especially in America, knows that our problems do not result from a lack of information or material strength. If we fail in achieving what God asks from us as we run our race, it will be a failure of heart and spirit. I believe our prayers do more than simply motivate the Father to action. They actually release the power of the Holy Spirit from us to accomplish things in the earth realm. In his book, “The Kneeling Warrior,” Dr. David D. Ireland sheds much light on the importance of persistence in prayer and intercession. He takes the time to help us understand that there is literal power from the Holy Spirit which can be released from us is absolute. The power of God that brings life, healing and wholeness to the earth flows out from us---the Church. Content Summary The Bible talks about being watchful in various ways and for many different reasons, not the least of which is watching in prayer. Ephesians 6: 18 says, “With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert...

...PERSONAL PRAYER: TIMELESS SECRET OF HIGH IMPACT LEADERS ________________ A Book Review Presented to Dr. Jon Bishop Liberty Theological Seminary _____________ In partial fulfillment Of the requirements of PLED 520 __________ By John Smith, Jr. January 27, 2012 TABLE OF CONTENTS Introduction 2 Author 2 Book Summary 2 Book Critique and Evaluation 6 Personal Application 9 Resources 10 Introduction One of the most intriguing things about the Christian faith is the lack of participation that each believer exhibits in the spiritual discipline of prayer, all though they are constantly reminded that it is the pathway toward a more intimate relationship with Christ. There are a multiplicity of spiritual disciplines that the believer is expected to practice, however, the one that is most pervasive across the varied spectrum of Christianity is the spiritual discipline of prayer. Most believers are encouraged to spend vast amounts of time participating in prayer, although the average spiritual leader spends less than 15 minutes each day praying. As this writer was growing up he would consistently hear people in his home church state, “much prayer much power, little prayer little power, no prayer no power.” Author Dr. Dave Earley is currently is Chairman of the Department of Pastoral Ministries and Church Expansion at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. He also serves as Director of the Center...

...Intercessory Essay Intercessory Essay Grand Canyon University: HLT-302 June 17, 2012 Intercessory Essay The article by Holly well and Walker in my opinion proves to be true in my perspective because your mind and soul has to be right in order to heal or except the healing that God is trying to provide for you. The saying that “Change only takes place through action, not through meditation and prayer” (Dalai Lama), in my opinion is so incorrect and I feel that prayer can and will bring you out of your worst situations and for me it has. If I can be truly honest and reflect on what the article is saying and share some of my life situations then I will and it is a testimony at the same time. I was recently diagnosed with pulmonary embolisms, and I always considered myself a praying and God fearing woman, but when I was told that I automatically thought I was going to die it was over, and even though I could have died I did not because of my faith in God and prayer, along with my determination to not let this defeat me. They ran all kinds of test on me to where they were able to show and prove to me that this was something that I had, automatically I prayed and called family and church members and they got there prayer warriors and so on and so forth, but that bible says: “For two or more gathered in my name I am there with them”, Matthew 18-20. So power is prayer and it can and will heal if you ...

...Various Kinds of Prayer Cheryl Riley Maters II Theology May 9, 2015 Dr. Patricia Yeargan Various Kinds of Prayer Throughout my journey as a Christian I have found prayer to be a relevant part of my life. It is and essential instrument that all Christians can use on a daily basis. Prayer is defined as communication with God as our source of help just as you can use different instruments to make different sounds. Diverse prayers can yield different results. The Bible tells us in Thessalonians 5:16 “to pray without ceasing,” As we pray it opens up communication with our father God and strengthens our faith. As Christians we must pray to strengthen our relationship with him not because times are hard or that we are in need of something. Dr. R.T Kendall topic on the Various Kinds of Prayer enlightens people on the vast areas of praying. For instance the prayer of agreement can be used with intercessory prayer with great results. It also gives us insight to the power of prayer. Our heavenly Father values us more than anyone and wants to talk to us. With prayer, we all have equal access and we are all on level ground. What's more, prayer gives you the privilege of access to ultimate power. God can make anything happen. He can heal, solve any problem and change your financial situation and open doors. Cause everything that has happened in your life will work together for good. People must understand what prayer is, and why it is so important, and how you can overcome the obstacles...

...Does prayer heal? Prayer is an invocation or act that seeks to activate a rapport with a deity, an object of worship, or a spiritual entity through deliberate communication. Prayer can be a form of religious practice, may be either individual or communal and take place in public or in private. It may involve the use of words or song. When language is used, prayer may take the form of a hymn, incantation, formal creed, or a spontaneous utterance in the praying person. There are different forms of prayer such as petitioner prayer, prayers of supplication, thanksgiving, and worship/praise. Prayer may be directed towards a deity, spirit, deceased person, or lofty idea, for the purpose of worshipping, requesting guidance, requesting assistance, confessing sins or to express one's thoughts and emotions. Thus, people pray for many reasons such as personal benefit or for the sake of others. Yoga is also a common form of prayer. Prayer and Healing is a topic that has featured a lot on the minds of many people across the globe. This has led many researchers to conduct experiments with the purpose of proving or disapproving the idea that prayer contributes to an ill person’s healing. Thus, arguments regarding this topic have abounded with those supporting the idea that prayer contributes to healing advancing that prayer is not restricted by distance, it has a positive effect on life, and in the Bible, many people followed Jesus in order to receive healing. On the other hand, those opposing...

...LIBERTY BAPTIST THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY Prayer: The Timeless Secret of High-Impact Leaders by Dave Earley A Reading Reflection A Research Paper Submitted to Dr. Gene Jeffries in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for The Course evan 670-b01 by August 31, 2012 Table of Contents INTRODUCTION ………………………………………………………………………..1 SUMMARY OF BOOK…………………………………………………………………..1 EVALUTATION AND CRITIQUE ……………………………………………………..2 PERSONAL APPLICATION ……………………………………………………………3 CONCLUSION …………………………………………………………………………..4 BIBLIOGRAPHY ………………………………………………………………………..5 INTRODUCTION Prayer is the way that believers communicate with the Lord. While many view prayer as a means to: thank the Lord, ask for help, and confess their sins; prayer goes beyond that. Dave Earley explains that “The eminence of great leaders in the Bible is attributable to the fact that they were great in their praying.” In his book, Prayer: The Timeless Secret of High-Impact Leaders, Earley covers nine topics that are essential and applicable for those who are spiritual leaders. SUMMARY The nine principles that Dave Early covers are supported by leaders both from the Bible and other well-known leaders through the course of the history of Christianity. The book can be divided into two sections: developing a prayer life and developing boldness of prayer. The text can further be divided into the nine principles which are: value the power of prayer, make time to pray, pray for those you serve...

...Here I am on Earth trying to determine if the people here are religious or not?? Here I am on Earth trying to determine if the people here are religious or not. Three things I am looking for are prayer to a higher entity, sacrifice, and public acknowledgment of their god in ways other than prayer. The clues I am now assessing include people attending their houses of worship, people wearing crosses around their necks as jewelry, and people with their heads bowed in prayer. These people with their heads bowed in prayer have so many variations in their actions. Some people are at their dinner table praying, some people kneel on the ground in a line with other people five times per day to pray, and some bow their heads and put their hands together, and use a string of beads to pray with. The earthlings seem to practice sacrifice openly and variably. They are not, perhaps, killing a goat, burning it, and attempting to give it to the deity, but instead, people are sacrificing personal actions. The man who used to steal does not steal anymore, hoping this sacrifice will please his god. So it is with the woman who used foul words heavily in speech. She now, however, is trying to give up (sacrifice) her obscene language because she feels like she cannot reap the benefits of being a servant of her god if her language is not pure. She does not want to grieve her higher being, so she sacrificed her abhorrent language. Sacrifice occurs in Buddhism when practicing Sutra and one...

(Pearson Education, 2012) Health is viewed multi-dimensionally and each dimension consists of the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of a person. With the maintenance of health, one must consider a special attire one must wear, specific food one must eat or avoid, special entertainment sources, and religious customs. For the protection of health, one must take into account dietary restrictions, symbolic clothing that must be worn, avoidance of specific people, rituals, superstitions and amulets. For health restoration, one must also consider special folkloric remedies, healers, rituals and prayers. It is essential that these traditional methods mentioned above be incorporated with modern methods of health care. (Pearson Education, 2012) The three families interviewed are from the Philippines, Jamaica and Ireland. For the physical aspect, Filipinos pray for good health. They eat healthy food such as vegetables, meat, chicken, and fruits and maintain exceptional hygiene. For the mental aspect, eating pigeon soup nourishes the liver and kidneys and detoxifies. People worship to satisfy a human need just like eating and drinking Revivalism began in Jamaica between 1860 and 1861 as part for a religious movement called the great revival. This period saw the restoration of suppressed and discriminated against religious practices during slavery Information taken from: http: http://www.anngel.com/ACIJ/history-revivalism.htm Christian churches however were never fond of the Revivalist Manifestations of the Spirit, where a person in the service would be possessed by these spirits. Therefore participators would only be limited to singing hymns and reading scriptures from prayers, this is where most people in the Revivalist community would not have the satisfaction of worshipping. From this, Christian groups have been divided into two groups: • Temporal • Spiritual Christian “Spiritual” groups are those who accept the doctrine and the spiritual Possession of spirits while the of the Temporal” are those who do not accept such activities. Revivalist Bands Revival bands are an essential part to worship in Revivalism. Pocomania and Zion Revivalist Bands consist mainly of Female members. These women (Mothers) may even become Leaders of the Revivalists bands. Many revivalists in Jamaica are not employed and if employed they usually work within the field of Agricultural Farming, house holding or roadside higglers...
