...Intercessory Prayer HLT 302 Grand Canyon University Gloria Jordan February 2, 2011 After reviewing Jaroff’s article which was about a research study of the effects of intercessory prayer, on woman who wanted to conceive children and who had underwent in-vitro fertilization in order to do so. The study was conducted to see if having the woman prayed for along with the in-vitro fertilization process, would prayer impact the success rate. According to the research some were successful, but when the research was viewed by other researchers the finding were found to be invalid and that the researchers themselves, unqualified to conduct such studies. From the patients point if view their main goal was to have a child, and not being able to do so by natural means opted to undergo in-vitro fertilization, which is a process that may not produce the desires response one hundred percent of the time. Being prayer for did not in any way cause harm to the women who were prayed for, because they were unaware that it was being done. This writer feels that in spite the fact that other researchers found that the study was bogus, the woman who were able to conceive would have welcomed the intervention of prayer if given the choice. In the Bible there are examples in the stories of woman who were barren and prayed to be able to conceive a child, a few of these woman are Hannah, Sarah, Rebecca and Elizabeth. ...

...Mohd 1 Mohd Ali Professor Asbille On the Nature of Religion Throughout history it can clearly be seen that religion has played an important role in people’s lives. It is the one thing that is consistent across every culture. From Scandinavia to Japan, and from Ireland to Argentina, religion has played a role in the development of these societies. It does not matter what language the people speak or what they wear. Religion seems to bridge the gap without problem, rapidly spreading from one place to another in a matter of centuries, despite there being a cultural and language barrier. What makes religion so incredibly effective? Why is it that the concept has existed for literally as long as humanity has existed? What is the relationship between religion and culture? Are they two distinct entities, or are they two different manifestations of the same phenomenon? In order to answer these questions, first, a mutual platform must be developed and agreed upon, which will serve as the basis for development and proposal of arguments. First and foremost, this paper is a rational inquiry about the nature of religion, and as such this paper will establish arguments and analyze religion through the lens of rationality and science. This is not a paper about causality. The arguments developed here are built on the foundations of Objectivism, scientific realism, empirical analysis and strict adherence to logic. Furthermore, religion has to be rigorously defined...

...Journal Article Review: Use of prayer and scripture in therapy Liberty University Use of prayer and scripture in therapy Summary Effectively integrating psychology and theology has been an ongoing endeavor for many Christian therapists who wish to be ethically sound in their therapeutic practices and yet honor the use of the Holy Spirit as the ultimate Counselor and Comforter. Use of prayer and scripture in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is a study that focuses specifically on the efficacy of the use of prayer and scripture within the Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) model. While CBT is more than 30 years old (Tan, 2007, pg. 101), it has been “expanded to include mindfulness and acceptance-based therapies” (Tan, 2007, pg. 101). The author bases his article on the findings that there are a minimum of 10 outcome studies providing empirical support regarding the efficacy of “religiously-oriented or spiritually-oriented CBT with religious clients” (Tan, 2007, pg. 102). The article describes the author’s development and use of an ethical and appropriate approach to utilizing prayer and scripture within a Christian modality of CBT. The author has used this approach in a variety of settings including hospital, college, and private practice. The key points to his Christian approach to CBT very briefly include the emphasis of agape love, dealing adequately with past issues, the possibility of demonic involvement, use of alignment with God’s word, focusing on problems with...

...have found prayer to be a relevant part of my life. It is and essential instrument that all Christians can use on a daily basis. Prayer is defined as communication with God as our source of help just as you can use different instruments to make different sounds. Diverse prayers can yield different results. The Bible tells us in Thessalonians 5:16 “to pray without ceasing,” As we pray it opens up communication with our father God and strengthens our faith. As Christians we must pray to strengthen our relationship with him not because times are hard or that we are in need of something. Dr. R.T Kendall topic on the Various Kinds of Prayer enlightens people on the vast areas of praying. For instance the prayer of agreement can be used with intercessory prayer with great results. It also gives us insight to the power of prayer. Our heavenly Father values us more than anyone and wants to talk to us. With prayer, we all have equal access and we are all on level ground. What's more, prayer gives you the privilege of access to ultimate power. God can make anything happen. He can heal, solve any problem and change your financial situation and open doors. Cause everything that has happened in your life will work together for good. People must understand what prayer is, and why it is so important, and how you can overcome the obstacles that prevent you from doing it. Make prayer the foundation of your life...you can only benefit from spending more time with God. "I cannot imagine a greater...

...Prayer: The Timeless Secret of High-Impact Leaders Book Critique Submitted by: Shannon J. Cockrell Student ID: L23353600 Submitted to: Dr. Jim O'Neill EVAN 670 Liberty Theological Seminary January 19, 2015 INTRODUCTION “Much prayer equals much power”, is a quote I’ve heard most my Christian adult life. Dr. Earley asks a thought-provoking question, “How would you rate your prayers?” (p.111) Truth be told, I wasn’t very powerful. Sure I prayed in the morning and at night, but I wasn’t seeing the results I saw that prayer brought about in the Scriptures. Prayer: The Timeless Secret Of High-Impact Leaders by Dr. Dave Earley is a life-transforming book. Earley has written a treatise on prayer that will be a classic for years to come. In this brief critique/review I will give an overview, summary of the chapters, critique, and application. SUMMARY “Leadership is influence…Prayer influences men by influencing God to influence them.” (Earley, x). Wow. What a powerful summary of his own book that Earlely gives us. This book is about influence and how prayer can better enable and position us to be better influences in the world. To lead better, we must pray better. Earley uses “Nine Prayer Disciplines of High-Impact Spiritual Leaders” to serve as the framework of his book. In chapter 1, entitled Value the Power of Prayer, Earley elaborates on the dynamic power that is found in prayer. Earley says, “If you want to maximize your impact, prioritize your...

The laughter of Sarah was of unbelief, or considered derisive as the book puts it. She might not have known of the promise that was given to Abraham. Then in her old age thinking it is impossible by this time to have a child as she has not had her own, in the many years she has been alive. 4. How does the Lord evaluate Abraham? Abraham was considered a friend of God because of his faithfulness, obedience and consistent behavior and love for the Lord. Therefore the blessing of his generations would become great in the future. 5. When is intercessory prayer effective? ...Introduction Many thoughts come to mind as I ponder the question of what it means to be a Christian. Sinfulness, forgiveness, faith, grace are just a few topics involved in being a Christian. Specific things must happen for one to become a Christian. Scripture is clear about how to become a Christian, (“If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9 NIV) “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9 NIV)). After doing so, however, what does a Christian look like in their day to day living? What things does a follower of Christ actively do and participate in that reflects who they are and who’s they are? Two things that are important for me to engage in and display as a Christian are prayer and worship. Part One (Prayer) The Bible does not specifically give a definition of prayer. We can only look at what it says about prayer and the references it makes to prayer in order to understand what it is. By doing so, we can conclude that prayer is simply talking to God, either audibly or inaudibly, and expressing our feelings and thoughts to Him. It is how we communicate with God. Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” We can pray on behalf of ourselves or for someone else. “Therefore confess...

...Dr. David D. Ireland, Phd. “The Kneeling Warrior”. Lake Mary: Charisma, 2013 Introduction The very Son of God spent many entire nights praying in order to fulfill His ministry. It took Him three arduous hours in Gethsemane to find strength to face the Cross. “He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears” (Heb. 5:7). We, on the other hand, have mastered the art of one-liners in prayer, and think if we give God a two-hour service once a week we’re fairly spiritual. “Easy does it” might be good advice in a few situations, but for most of life, including prayer, easy doesn’t do it. Anyone long associated with the Church of this century, especially in America, knows that our problems do not result from a lack of information or material strength. If we fail in achieving what God asks from us as we run our race, it will be a failure of heart and spirit. I believe our prayers do more than simply motivate the Father to action. They actually release the power of the Holy Spirit from us to accomplish things in the earth realm. In his book, “The Kneeling Warrior,” Dr. David D. Ireland sheds much light on the importance of persistence in prayer and intercession. He takes the time to help us understand that there is literal power from the Holy Spirit which can be released from us is absolute. The power of God that brings life, healing and wholeness to the earth flows out from us---the Church. Content Summary The Bible talks about being watchful in various...

...The Use of Prayer and Scripture in CBT Article Review Liberty University Summary The article entitled “Use of Prayer and Scripture in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy” discusses the use of prayer and scripture in a Christian view of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Tan, S. 2007). The article also discusses the expansion of cognitive Behavior Therapy to include Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (Tan, S. 2007). The article also discusses implicit and explicit integration in therapy (Tan, S. 2007). The article begins by discussing the research behind Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Tan, S. 2007) . The article states that it is the most empirically supported therapy treatments(Tan, S. 2007) . Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is used to treat many psychological illnesses (Tan, S. 2007). The author points out that that empirically supported therapy relationships and empirically supported principles of therapeutic change have also played an important role in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy research (Tan, S. 2007). The article goes on to discuss the history of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Tan, S. 2007). The history can be divided into three generations (Tan, S. 2007). The first generation included traditional behavioral therapy (Tan, S. 2007). The second generation included Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Tan, S. 2007). The third generation includes relatively contextual approaches (Tan, S. 2007). These approaches...

...PERSONAL PRAYER: TIMELESS SECRET OF HIGH IMPACT LEADERS ________________ A Book Review Presented to Dr. Jon Bishop Liberty Theological Seminary _____________ In partial fulfillment Of the requirements of PLED 520 __________ By John Smith, Jr. January 27, 2012 TABLE OF CONTENTS Introduction 2 Author 2 Book Summary 2 Book Critique and Evaluation 6 Personal Application 9 Resources 10 Introduction One of the most intriguing things about the Christian faith is the lack of participation that each believer exhibits in the spiritual discipline of prayer, all though they are constantly reminded that it is the pathway toward a more intimate relationship with Christ. There are a multiplicity of spiritual disciplines that the believer is expected to practice, however, the one that is most pervasive across the varied spectrum of Christianity is the spiritual discipline of prayer. Most believers are encouraged to spend vast amounts of time participating in prayer, although the average spiritual leader spends less than 15 minutes each day praying. As this writer was growing up he would consistently hear people in his home church state, “much prayer much power, little prayer little power, no prayer no power.” Author Dr. Dave Earley is currently is Chairman of the Department of Pastoral Ministries and Church Expansion at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. He also serves as Director of the Center...

...two different reactions. One could be that we allow this knowledge to intimidate the church and continue to cripple our efforts to reach these unreached people. The other option is to allow this information to act as a challenge to the church and the believers that congregate under the common thread of Jesus Christ and allow these numbers to propel the church to re-evaluate the evangelistic status quo; go back to the biblical basic of the early church and come up with a new game plan to win these souls for Christ. This paper will discuss how to mobilize the church to evangelize. It will define evangelism and look to the biblical basis for evangelism providing a new lifestyle of the modern day church. It will discuss the importance of intercessory prayer, and the vitality of a bold vision. It will look into the Pastors role in the churches effectiveness to...
