Internet and Intranet

Internet and Intranet The internet is a worldwide interconnection of any device able to connect to it with a valid internet protocol address. It commonly used in the connection of computers. People use the internet to communicate with shopping sites, social networking sites, or any public webpages for that matter. You can’t Google without the internet. All of these pages yes can be accessed but some are limited to the user being authorized. All computers that are accessing the internet are giving a unique number to tell them apart and give them an identity called an IP address. The protocol used to do this is called TCP/IP. It is through this IP address that your computers location can be found out. When an address is entered into a browser such as http:\\www.google.com and you press enter it is than translated into a numbered IP address and then DNS will do then rest. The intranet refers to a group of computers in a network that is not available to the outside world. A lot of big companies and businesses use this structure to provide information across their own network to employees. It creates a web environment that looks like the company’s website but employees can access confidential and enclosed information that the outside world can’t access unless there authorized by and on the company’s network. When it comes to the internet and the intranet the structures are very similar what controls the bounders between users gaining access to the intranet and the internet is controlled through the networks firewall. Both use a server-client structure and both networks transfer data using Internet protocols. However, they fundamentally differ due to the vast difference in networking scale and complexity. With billions of computers sharing and transferring data amongst each other, the administration of the Internet is far more complex, as

...Differences among the Internet and an Intranet and an Extranet: These three systems include that they all connect a group of people in a network. They all allow data to be uploaded onto the network and also allow it to be downloaded. They use software and hardware to share data. But they have many differences. Here I mention some differences among the Internet and an Intranet and an Extranet….. Internet: ❖ The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standard Internet Protocol Suite to serve billions of users worldwide. ❖ Internet is global communication accessed through the web. ❖ It is available to the public. ❖ Internet speed is slower than Intranet. ❖ Internet based information is not much secure. ❖ Diagram: [pic] Intranet: ❖ An intranet is a private computer network that uses Internet Protocol technologies to securely share any part of an organization's information or operational systems within that organization. ❖ Intranet is shared content accessed by members within a single organization. ❖ It is private network only available to selected users. ❖ An Intranet provides much high speed than the internet. ❖ Intranet based information is more secure than Internet ❖ Diagram: [pic] Extranet: ❖ An extranet is a private network that uses Internet protocols, network connectivity. Business Case 2

...Business Case Kevin Bowman, Richard Sebastian, Joy Harrison, Kevin Bouchard, Clarrisa Houle, Joel Belew CMTG/445 September 30, 2013 Charlie Neuman Business Case Prototyping Before an application can be implemented executives would like to see a prototype of the application or system to see how it will function within their existing systems. A prototype is a scaled model of an application or system that allows developers to present the application although it may not be fully functional but has enough functionality that allows executives and end users to get the basic understanding of what the system or application does. When it comes to prototyping there are several approaches that can be used, such as the waterfall approach which is the most common method of prototyping used. The waterfall approach “relies heavily on written specs, and leave testing and user feedback until late in the development cycle. A waterfall approach works well when there is a desire to consciously limit user options and force the adoption of out-of the-box functionality.” (Llieva, Mizuno 2013) When taking into consideration the work environment today, everything is fast paced, and interactive and requires a faster process for prototyping. This is where rapid prototyping comes in, rapid prototyping provides incremental prototypes at points throughout the development of the application or system. There are 4 key advantages to using the rapid prototyping method: 1. Allows adaptation...

...Internet Tools at Dirt Bikes Damon Davis IT 205 11/28/2010 Sharon Ray Axia College of University of Phoenix Dirt bikes could benefit from intranet because it is a private network. It’s private and protected from public visits by Firewalls to keep unwanted guests out. Intranet also reduces operational costs so we won’t have to pay a lot and to link electronically to customers and suppliers. Since Intranet cuts its operational costs it won’t cost much to use it and won’t affect your sells. It is the world’s largest implementation of client computing and internetworking. Paid, sponsored advertisements are the fastest form of powerful marketing tools that match consumer interests with advertising messages at the right moment. An intranet can be used in a business to allow authorized customers to have limited access to its internet intranet. Authorized buyers could link to a portion of the company’s intranet to obtain information about the costs and features of the company’s products. The Intranet’s firewall makes sure that only authorized clients and buyers access the company’s products. It does this by ensuring that the access to the company’s internal data is limited and secure. Intranets are great ways to sell your product and to get it out on the market. Another way to stay in contact with customers, suppliers and employees more easily is wireless communication. It also provides more flexible arrangements for organizing work. Dirt Bikes

...Dirt Bikes’ management is concerned about how much money they have been spending on communicating with people inside and outside the organization. I have designed a strategy on how to use internet tools and technology to help Dirt Bikes’ employees communicate and obtain information more efficiently, earning revenue and creating marketing opportunities. Everything about a company must be broken down and looked at so that a person can see where the problems are coming from and how to solve them. Sometimes it is not the company, but the fact the company has not upgraded to the use of updated technology. The key is to integrate their current technology and business structure through the intranet and internet. The intranet is highly beneficial to Dirt Bikes’ business because it allows all of the employee’s instant access to job tools and services that help to increase productivity. The intranet is a collection of private computer networks within an organization, this will help them to be more productive, safer and protected. It uses network technologies as a tool to facilitate communication between people and it is also designed to improve data sharing capabilities. The Human Resources Department as well as sales and marketing can benefit thru the Intranet structure. The section of the Intranet for these departments will include links for employees to access information for their wages, company benefits, online W-2 access and more. It would also be designed to include online training...

Business Communication Systems Report

...Business communication system In this report I have researched five different types of communication technology and their benefits and drawbacks. I have also discussed how communication technology has contributed to the growth of e-commerce, e-business and e-marketing. Communication technology: Electronic mail: Emails were first introduced during 1961 where users could login to mainframe computers and store information online. During 1965 email allowed users to communicate with more than one person, allowing people to communicate with other people all around the world. Only after 1966 did email allowed users to send information from one computer to another. E-mail allows you to send electronic messages to people. E-mail also allows you to forward, receive, save your important messages and it allows you to send one message to many people at once. For example you can send all your employees the minutes of the meeting that you had. E-mail enables you to send carbon copy and or blind carbon copy. Carbon copy enables you to send the same email to two or more people without having to send separate emails to people. The recipient will be able to see all the other recipients of the same message. In order to send a carbon copy to more than one recipient separate the emails addresses with a commas. It also allows you to inform recipients of the new receivers that have been added. Blind carbon copy allows you to send the same email to two people without the other person knowing...

Dirt Bikes

...Internet Tools and Dirt Bikes By: Anthony Williams Based upon the information given to us, Dirt Bikes first order of business should be to sit down and draw up a plan regarding how they will proceed and what they will need to achieve that goal followed by an Internet and Information and tools usage policy. First thing to determine is how many of Dirt Bikes employees actually need computers or mobile devices and of those that need a PC or mobile device, who needs access to the internet in order to do their job. Like everything else, without a plan as in many other business aspects, implementation of an Intranet is doomed to fail without being properly planned. After determining their needs we need to look at the benefits of intranets for Sales and Marketing, Human Resources and Manufacturing and Production. An intranet is inexpensive to implement and easy to use. Because a majority of people surf the web/internet already, implementation and learning how to use the company intranet should be fairly easy. Intranets are also scalable and flexible which means as the company increases production and or size so can its intranet. Intranets can integrate data from diverse sources, such as manufacturing and production along with sales and marketing, external competitor research, etcetera. Company intranets with different focuses can offer Dirt Bikes many benefits such as improved decision making, empowering users to be part of the process and have input by building a...

Internet Solutions for Dirt Bikes

...Internet Solutions for Dirt Bikes | By: Frank HartmanMarch 17, 2013 | I have been asked to investigate how Internet tools and technology could be used to help Dirt Bikes’ employees communicate and obtain information more efficiently. Dirt Bikes provides Internet access to all employees who use desktop computers. I will look at different options and give Dirt Bikes a review of these options. I will also explain how these options can benefit Dirt Bikes. | | Intranet Tools and Benefits According to Laudon and Laudon (2009), Internet networking standards and Web technologies can be used to create private networks that are called intranets. An intranet is private and secure network that is restricted to use by authorized individuals. The intranet network is protected by a firewall which prevents unauthorized individuals from entering the network. Sales and Marketing could benefit from using an intranet system by having instant access to accurate information concerning product information, marketing analysis, sales reports, and other necessary information to make decisions for these departments. The human resources department could benefit from the intranet in a couple of different ways. This could start with the way that prospective employees apply for a job. By having the applicants use a secure terminal it would allow the HR department...

Internet Tools at Dirt Bikes

...Internet Tools at Dirt Bikes Kimula Busby IT/205 04/18/2012 Coranette Square I will be investigating how Internet tools and technology could be used to help Dirt Bikes’ employees communicate and obtain information more efficiently. Dirt Bikes provide internet access to all employees who use desktop computers. The first option recommended is that Limiting Internet usage within the company to Zero Tolerance for employees or departments that do not have a direct need for it would be cost efficient. The second option is Internet access to all employees with different levels of permission granted. It would be cost efficient because it would increase bandwidth allowing important information to be sent and retrieved faster. It would also limit possible viruses, worms, and spyware that could affect Dirt Bikes in a financially negative way. With a Intranet systems installing firewalls would help prevent Dirt Bikes confidential information and antivirus protections to deter hackers to the system are also recommended to protect against security breaches. A recommendation would be Dirt Bikes installing a LAN (local area network) connecting all of their computers so that files could be shared between different PCs used in all of the departments as a source of communication. All of the departments would benefits from the Intranet in various ways. Paper is costly and often wasted by using Intranets Dirt Bikes will be able to store information on servers this would reduce...

Solutions to these threats are; WiFi protected access (WPA) password and hide the network; ICTs should be protected with a login screen for the users; To secure an extranet, organisations should use a virtual private network (VPN); Any organisation should provide basic training in how to detect viruses and Trojans. This is a proactive way to prevent an infection in a whole organisation’s LAN. An intranet is private and secure and is protected by a firewall which prevents unauthorized individuals from entering the network. Intranet software technology and that of the WWW is the same. Having quick access to accurate information can be vital to a sales and marketing department. The sales and marketing department could benefit from using an intranet by being able to look up sales reports, product information, marketing analysis, and researching competitors are just one click away. The human resources department could benefit from having an intranet because they could eliminate using large amounts of paper. The human resources department could upload employee handbooks, benefits information, job listings and applications, newsletters, and new employee interactive training, as well as other information that would save paper costs. The manufacturing and production departments could benefit from using an intranet to help coordinate, maintain, and publish production schedules. The intranet can manage inventory and parts.
