Tom Marrow is a Houston based architect who is the sole owner of a very successful architecture firm, Tomorrow Planning, Inc. Tomorrow Planning, Inc. was established in 1999. The firm does Office and Industrial builds for the majority of their projects. The owner, Tom, graduated from the University of Michigan in 1983 with a BA of Science and Architecture. Tom never planned on being an entrepreneur, but said he was thrown into it when the company he interned for started to go downhill. “I was working for a development company called Midway Development Company in their architecture group (Midway Architectural Planning), and the day I moved (from Ypsilanti) to Dallas was the day the economy took a sharp turn down. There was a bunch of reasons for the economy going bad, the savings and loans crisis was the big one though, and almost immediately, Midway started laying people off.” he told me. Approximately one year after Tom started at Midway, the manager of Midway Architectural Planning left the company and Tom was approached, and offered the management position. Tom managed the architecture group for about 4 years, as more and more of his staff got laid off. In 1989, there was only 5 people left at Midway Architectural Planning, and not nearly enough projects to keep them all busy. Tom approached the managers at Midway Development Company, and discussed taking the remaining employees of the architecture group and starting his own company, which is what he did and started the Facilities Planning Group. Shortly after Tom started Facilities Planning Group, he moved from Dallas to Houston. Facilities Planning Group was discontinued in the mid 1990’s, and Tomorrow Planning was incorporated in 1999.
