I have been interested in I.C.T. and the impact it has on people’s lives since the day my family got our first P.C. a 486Mhz processor P.C. Obviously at the time this was thought to be at the fore front of the computing world, but due to how quickly technology has evolved, times have changed.
Having studied, I have become more and more interested not only in the impact it has on people’s lives, but the huge impact it has and can have on the business world. During my I.C.T. A-level, I spent time designing and creating an information system to be used by a real end-user. I found this to be the highlight of my two year course and was particularly interested in the detailed processes that have to be undertaken by teams within an organisation, in order to initiate a fully functional system.
My reason for choosing this course is clear, both business and I.C.T. affect all of us in our everyday lives. Although both subjects are somewhat demanding, I find them extremely interesting and I am confident that a degree combining both of them is the correct choice to enable me to begin a career in an area that I will enjoy.
I represented my school at rugby at all levels and also had the opportunity to undertake some uncommon activities at school. These included archery, sailing, rifle shooting and wind surfing. I was also lucky enough to have the opportunity to attend a one-week windsurfing course during which I achieved my level one windsurfing qualification. In my spare time I enjoy a wide range of sporting activities. These include: football, pool, snooker and snowboarding. I will be hoping to pursue my sporting activities whilst at university.
I have managed to gain some vital work experience in the years between my time in education. This involved learning different techniques in order for me to be able to carry out a range of tree care practices. Following on from my time spent as a Tree surgeon, I worked at Sainsbury's for two years. Whilst at Sainsbury's, I worked as a checkout operator, replenishment assistant and also as a counter assistant. This job really helped me to improve my communication and sales skills and has given me more confidence in dealing with members of the public. I have also spent a year working at my local Marks and Spencer store as a Bureau de Change assistant, where I had to help cutomers who were looking to exchange currency and also help with the ordering and counting of currencies. I found that this job helped my accuracy of administration work as well as my attention to detail. I also feel, that again, this job advanced my people skills. Finally, I spent nine months working for AXA Insurance as a customer service representative. This position involved dealing with Insurance brokers and answering underwriting enquiries relating to household insurance products. I also spent time liaising with the AXA Technical Underwriting team to determine a decision for any more complicated problems. I truly believe that this experience has allowed me to gain invaluable experience in an office environment and working efficiently and effectively as part of a team.

Intrest Groups in the Us

...Matthew Sandoval 1 Government 2301 Spring 2012 Interest Groups and Politics The “interest industry” or Interest Groups is often pointed out as one of the unusual features of the American political system. A structurally weak state is seen as being penetrated by wealthy and vigorous lobbying groups, raising the questions of to whom. Elected politicians are in practice accountable, and how real political power is allocated. While these interest groups are sometimes effective in achieving their own aims, the bias towards business groups suggests that, far from improving policymaking, the influence of interest groups actually worsens it. The strong presence of interest groups is certainly not in doubt. The representation of interests is the third-largest source of employment in Washington D.C., providing work for around 40,000 active lobbyists (Twyman, 1). Groups are also organized in state capitals, especially in Sacramento, CA and Austin, TX. This impressive presence, in comparison to other countries, stems at least partly from the structural weakness of other parts of the American political system. The framers of the Constitution fragmented the state into competing institutions, thus providing plenty of leverage points for interest groups; those which do not get satisfaction in the one branch of government can pursue it in another (Debbie, 4). In addition the main political parties are ill-disciplined and weak; legislators who vote against the party line...

Intrest Rate Cut in Europe

...GCC to be hit if US debt ceiling crisis worsens Monday, 14 October 2013 DOHA: The economic consequences could be dire for the GCC states if political leaders in the US fail to agree on lifting their government’s debt ceiling by Thursday, economists here warn. For one, the oil-rich GCC states have massive investments in the US, the currencies of most of them are pegged to the dollar, and more importantly, a debt crisis in the US would likely have a disastrous impact on the world oil market. “A continuing debt ceiling crisis in the US would hit China hard, and this would have a cascading effect on the rising Asian economies,” said celebrated financial expert Abdullah Al Khater. Since the GCC states are dependent on revenues from oil and gas, the impact on Asian economies would mean that GCC oil and gas exports would suffer hugely, Al Khater told The Peninsula yesterday. Recalling the days of oil embargo in 1973, he said the GCC economies suffered immensely then as they posted huge budget deficits. “If the US fails to lift the debt ceiling, we would be entering a phase of uncertainties and immense difficulties.” When told about a recent Washington Post report that put the GCC’s exposure to the US at $257.7bn, Al Khater said that was a very conservative estimate. “I expect the figure to be much higher.” He said if one took into consideration the assets of the sovereign wealth funds of the GCC states as a whole, it would be in hundreds of billions of dollars. And much of...

Should School Be Extended to a Fifth Year

...students more time to achieve what is expected, and those against it say that students would lose intrest and attendance will drop in year five. Of course there seems to be advantages and disadvantages to both, but lets be realistic, in America today, education isn't exactly our most relishing topic. I feel that extending high school one more year is a bad idea for three reasons, students really only have three years, there will be a loss of intrest, and its just a "band aid" for bigger problems. Firstly, if you think about it, there are really only three years of high school, because does anyone really get anything done senior year? No. Senior year is a time of waiting, for school to end, for your acceptance letters to come in, it's a time of waiting. Not to mention the commonly known disease that seems to incubate all seniors called "senioritis". Senioritis is basically not doing anything. With 5 years of high school students would waste 2 years to senioritis instead of just one. Out of the millions of students enrolled in high school, maybe one out of 5 truly enjoys school, where as the others just treat it as a social gathering very early in the morning. After the first three years of high school, coming into your senior year, you become a human form of a slug, very slow, both physically and mentally. Of course I might be over exaggeraiting maybe a little bit, but the intrest is gone after sophomore year. What makes you think that it will magically pop up after an addition...

Why Buis Should Acquired Minimum Wage

...I think that it's best that servers should continue to be paid the tipped minimum wage because if givin a raise it could cause alot of damage. It is in everyones best intrest to keep it that way for many reasons such as keeping a company open, helping the owner continuing to please his or her customers, and helping one another maintain a job. First, i think keeping a company open especially if its a good buisness is beneficial for not only the managment but the community as well. If the place is going well other than the low pay rates it is in the best of intrest to keep it going until there is a better time for a solution. A good tasting food place will make the community a better place as well because it could be very welcoming. Secound, helping an owner keep his or her buisness open is always a good act of kindness. Maybe the person is living off of his or her buisness as well as you as a server is living off of tips. If you think about it without them you may be lower in your life without this person or there buisness. Even if the pay is low something is better than nothing in my opinion. Like the waffle manager staed if the wage was raised the price of everything would have to be raised as well....

Essay Writing

...Begin WRITING TEST Here. If you ever ask a highschool student whether they would want to go one more year very few would say yes. I would, not because I like school, not because I enjoy spending six hours cooped up inside, but because I could use one more year to just be sure I am completely prepared for college. Along with this I feel that because we are required to take tenth grade graduation test and most of our tenth grade year is spent preparing for this test.  Highschool students today are highly prepared for the world, but that one extra year in high school could possibly be spent taking time on preparatory courses in college type setting. Students get thrown into the college setting which is a major shock to them due to the major differences. Maybe doing this our freshmen's first quarter wouldn't be as much of a change. Because we have to take the graduation test in tenth grade we don't learn anything that year. We need another year due to that, so we should go one more year to make sure we are ready. Scoring Explanation This essay demonstrates inconsistent skill in responding to the task. The writer takes a position but displays no recognition of a counter-argument to that position. Development of ideas is thin with general statements to explain the first idea (Students get thrown into the college setting which is a major shock to them due to the major differences) and very little explanation of the second idea (Because we have to take the graduation test...

Interest Rate

...Assignment #3 Intrest rates are considered to be the price of holding money and the opportunity cost of any investment. After analysing intrests rates in our course do you think that interest rate in Egypt reflect the real opportunity cost of holding money? why or why not? Please support your answer with all the references you have searched. The opportunity cost of holding money is the cost that could be realized if money were invested instead of held. In other words, it is the interest rate that money is earning in a chosen investment. Typically, it is the interest rate that is set on a bond, particularly a government bond. Given the other investment choices that could be made, this cost could be very different from one person or entity to another. To determine the true opportunity cost of holding money, it is necessary to first determine what the investment vehicle would have been. After that, the next step is to research what the interest rate would be on that investment strategy. If the annual percentage rate is a single percent, then one percent annually would be the opportunity cost of holding onto the money. Assigning a definite value would require first knowing how much money was being held, and how long it would be held for. In economics, investing and holding money are known as mutually exclusive choices. This means that both cannot be done at the same time with the same money. If the money is being invested, it cannot be held. It may be possible for an individual...

Sealed Air

...SISSEJUHATUS Sealed Air (SA) on 1960. aastal asutatud ettevõte, mille põhitegevuseks on kaitsvate pakkematerjalide tootmine. Ettevõtte arendamise eesmärgil alustati 1988. aastal tootmisprotsesside optimeerimist World Class Manufacturing (WCM) programmi abil, mis aitas muuhulgas luua töötajatele efektiivsemat motivatsiooniprogrammi ning parenduste tagajärjel suurenesid ettevõtte rahavood. 10 aastase ajaloo jooksul maksis Sealed Air aktsionäridele kvartaalseid dividende mitte rohkem kui 18 senti aktsia kohta, kuid 1989. a mais otsustas juhtkond teha eridividendide väljamakse 40 dollarit aktsia kohta, mille tulemusel muudeti ettevõtte kapitalistruktuur. 1. See mõjutas ettevõtte konkurentsivõimet.
